C. Teaching/Modeling
Say: Yesterday, we talked about the past perfect tense of verbs. We learned that past perfect
expresses an action completed in the past before another action happened. It is formed by using had +
past participle form of the verb.
Say: Today, we are going to talk about present perfect and future perfect.
Direct pupils’ attention to the second and third column of the chart.
Say: Take a look at how the past perfect tense of verbs are changed to present perfect and future
perfect tense. Ask: What do you notice about the verbs in the sentences?
Show this summary of verbs on the board.

Past Perfect Present Perfect Future Perfect

had + seen has + seen will/shall have + seen

had + given have + given will/shall have + given
had + taken have + taken will/shall have + taken
Say: We always use the past participle of verbs in the past perfect, present perfect and future perfect
tenses of verbs. Ask: But how do we differentiate the past perfect, present perfect and future perfect?

Say: Remember that the present perfect expresses an action that was completed sometime in the
past or is still continuing in the present. It is formed by using has/have + past participle form of the verb.
We use has if the subject is singular and have if the subject is plural.

The uses of present perfect are the following:

(Source: https://www.ego4u.com/en/cram-up/grammar/present-perfect-simple)

Present Perfect Tense puts emphasis on the result.

Example: She has written five letters.

b. Present Perfect Tense is an action that is still going on.

Example: School has not started yet.

c. Present Perfect Tense is an action that stopped recently.

Example: She has cooked dinner.

d. Present Perfect Tense is finished action that has an influence on the present.

Example: I have lost my key.

e. Present Perfect Tense is an action that has taken place once, never or several times before the moment
of speaking

Example: I have never been to Australia.

The signal words of present perfect are already, ever, just, never, not yet, so far, till now, up to now.
The future perfect, on the other hand, describes an action that will still be completed sometime in the
future. It is formed by using will/shall have+ past participle form of the verb. Whether the subject is singular
or plural, have is always used. Will or shall can be used also. Will and shall are modal verbs. They are
used with the base form of the main verb (They will go; I shall ask her). Shall is used for future time
reference with I and we, and is more formal than will.

The future perfect tense is used when the action or event started before now, is starting now, or will
start after now, but it will not be completed until some point in the future. The signal words are until, before,
by the end of the day, by the end of the week, by the end of the month,
