STITCH EXPLANATION
Yo (yarn over)
An increase that also creates a small decorative hole (eyelet) in the fabric,
worked as follows:
1. Bring yarn to front, between the needles.
2. Take yarn to back, over the right hand needle. This creates the new st. You
are now ready to proceed with the next st as instructed.
NOTES
1. Shawl is worked in one piece, back and forth in rows, from center back neck
downwards.
2. Increases are worked to shape the Shawl.
3. A circular needle is used to accommodate the large number of sts. Work back
and forth in rows on the circular needle as if working on straight needles.
SHAWL
Cast on 5 sts.
Knit 1 row.
Set Up Rows
Row 1: K2, place marker (pm), yo, k1, yo, pm, k2 – you’ll have 7 sts in this row.
Row 2: Knit, slipping markers as you come to them.
Row 3: K2, slip marker (sm), yo, k1, yo, pm, k1, pm, yo, k1, yo, sm, k2 – 11 sts.
Row 4: Knit, slipping markers as you come to them.
Continue to slip markers as you come to them to end of piece.

Row 5 (Increase Row): K2, sm, yo, k to next marker, yo, sm, k1, sm, yo, k to
next marker, yo, sm, k2 – 15 sts (4 sts increased in this row).
Row 6: Knit.
Rows 7-20: Rep Rows 5 and 6 for 7 more times – you’ll have 43 sts in Row 19.

Row 22 (Eyelet Row): K2, sm, p1, *yo, p2tog; rep from * to 2 sts before next
marker, yo, p2, sm, p1, sm, p2, **yo, p2tog; rep from ** to 1 st before last
