This study aimed to know the specific role
of nonverbal communication through
watching the films and answering the
following question: What are the non-verbal
communication used in films? How is the
non-verbal used in films? What are the
effects of non-verbal communication?
INTRODUCTION
The nonverbal way is the most commonly
used communication medium in the world in
culture.Sometimes we may not know the
exact name of those but we use them
basically almost every time.
Nonverbal behaviors enjoy close to zero
formality, however depending on the
situation. Non-verbal communication occurs
without using any oral or written word.
Instead of written or oral words, it relies on
various non-verbal cues like physical
movements, tasks, colors, signs, symbols,
signals charts, etc. to express feelings,
attitudes or information.
When we talk about ‘communication’, we
often mean ‘what we say’: the words that we
use. However, interpersonal communication
is much more than the explicit meaning of
words, and the information or message that
they convey. It also includes implicit
messages, whether intentional or not, which

nonverbal cues gives a communicator an
edge over their interlocutor and enhances on
weakens human relationship. This study is
concerned with the use of non-verbal
communication in films. This focuses in two
of the non-verbal channels ----- gestures and
facial expression. Adam Kendon, describes
the visible actions that comprise utterances
can occur in conjunction with, or indepently
to, speech. Kendon’s definition of gesture
draws attention to it as a deed and a doing.
Gesture is an activity a product of energy
and nation. Human gestures occur as a result
of particular movements of the body, of the
face (such as rolling the eyes, winkling) the
neck (nodding, shaking the head), the hands
(the V sign), waving) the shoulders
(shrugging) and a lot more. Facial
expression are produced as the muscle of the
contract, creating facial configuration that
serve communicative and emotional
functions. Facial expression learning
involves change in the coordination of facial
muscles such that new configuration and
patterns of facial actions merge.

Specifically, this research sought to answer

SCOPE AND DELIMITATION
The main purpose of this research is to
determine the specific role of non-verbal
communication in films. This study
conducted at Camarines Sur Polytechnic
College. This Study focuses on facial
expression and gesture that they do in films.
METHODOLOGY
The coverage of the study is to know and
analyze the nonverbal communication in
films. It utilized qualitative methods as a
basic technique to determine methods and
analyze the nonverbal communication and
how it was used in films. The strength of the
qualitative technique allows a broader view
to be taken and made the research approach
more flexible. The researcher focused on
gesture and facial expression by examining
and determining the nonverbal
communication in the movies. However, thi
research data will be done through the
information necessary that was derive from
primary sources, the three (3) films which
are “ Don’t Breathe”, “Every child is
special”, “Bean”. It was selected as a source
of data based in their genre. The secondary
sources come from heavily on printed
materials, books, articles, and the internet.
The collection will serve as the basis of the
research success.
Don’t Breath
In DON'T BREATHE, three down-and-out,
desperate Detroit dwellers -- social outcast
"Money" (Daniel Zovatto), his girlfriend,
Rocky (Jane Levy); and clean-cut, worrying
Alex (Dylan Minnette) -- have a scheme.
They rob houses using keys and codes stolen
from Alex's father's job at a security
company. When they learn about an elderly,
blind war veteran (Stephen Lang) who keeps
several hundred thousand dollars in his
house, they figure it can be their "one last
final score." Rocky wants to get her young
daughter out of town and away from her
abusive mother, while Alex has unrequited
feelings for Rocky and wants to join her.
Unfortunately, their "simple" plan turns

"Every child are innocent when born, they
are special in many things and in different
ways. They should be treated well and love
them without condition. Not all children are
normal some are special in their own
way. In other words they are called special
child, wherein in our normal world we found
them incapable of doing things which
normal child can do. “Every Child is
Especial” is a movie that will teach us the
real meaning of love and acceptance, a
movie that will us cry and laugh and will
enlighten our heart that every child should
be value no matter who they are or what
they are. Let’s take a little recall of the
story."

gestures and facial expression. Gestures is
visible action that comprise utterance. Facial
expression is one or more motions or
positions of the muscles beneath the skin of

This study, the researchers would be able to
come up with an intervention program or
solutions that will lead to the improvement
of acting skills, productions and social
communication and real progress in social
