REFLECTION PAPER ON “CHARACTERISTICS OF AN EFFECTIVE TEACHER”

During my high school and college days, I already have some ideas and even experienced the
good characteristic of a teacher. Because of the discussion that we had pertaining to the
Characteristics of an Effective Teacher last August 19, 2019 on our “The Teaching Profession”
subject, becoming a teacher for me now became more interesting. And dreaming to be an
educator someday, I decide to pursue my dream by enrolling myself as a CCT student.

During the discussion of the above-mentioned subject, I realized how fruitful and helpful it was
and eventually offer a complete package in molding an effective teacher. For me it was a great
opportunity that we have included in our discussion some of our not so good experiences we
had with our previous teachers. As we continue to pursue our dream especially being an
educator, we can reflect on these experiences and never repeat the same mistakes.

I admit that during my elementary days, I never dreamed of being a teacher. This is maybe
because of what I have observed wherein some of my teachers are not so dedicated on their
assigned jobs. I have also an impression that some of the teachers during that time allegedly
are full of debts. Today, I realized that regardless of their status in life, teachers turned out to
be the persons I admired most. I have learned and experienced that being a teacher is the
noblest of all professions. Thus, it really feels good and fulfilling that I as a teacher, can impart
knowledge to the younger generations while educating them good values as well.

I believe that everyone can be an effective teacher as long as you put Almighty God first in
everything you do and everything else will follow. To sum it up, the discussion on
“Characteristics of an Effective Teacher” serves as an eye opener to me and made me more
eager to pursue a teaching career. I have learned also that to be an effective teacher, I should
set no limits on students and believe that everyone can be successful. As a teacher, I have to
be more creative, cultivate sense of belonging, be compassionate, learn to forgive, admit
mistake/s, possess integrity, respect everyone and always apply self discipline in everything we
do.

Lastly, being a teacher we should maintain a dignified personality that will serve as model
worthy of emulation to learners and peers. With the additional inputs now on my mind, I can
now say that I am on the right path and ready to face the challenges and hurdles of the
teaching profession. I am certain that I will become a successful Professional Teacher in the
near future.
