E-commerce:

E-commerce short for electronic commerce, is trading in products or services using


computer networks, such as the Internet. Almost any product or service can be offered
via ecommerce, from books and music to financial services and plane tickets.

E-commerce draws on technologies such as mobile commerce, electronic funds


transfer, Internet or online marketing, online transaction processing.

E-commerce has various business model, one among them is Business-to-Business


ecommerce model through which beacon technology is being incorporated.
Online marketing: Offline marketing:

 Internet marketing, or online  Offline marketing means the


marketing, refers to advertising ways to market your business

Beacon Technology:

 Beacon technology is a relatively new type of technology.


 Some are referring to beacon technology as “Graphical positioning system for indoors,”
and in effect, that’s what these devices do.
 Beacons are fast gaining steam as the newest tool in a retailer’s repertoire for micro
location based messaging and delivering personalized content to customers.
What are Beacons?

 Beacon is a small, inexpensive piece of hardware that connect via Bluetooth,


enabling them to transmit data directly to mobile devices.
 A beacon is an intentionally conspicuous device designed to attract attention to
a specific location.
 The beacon is considered to be the magical hardware that will bridge the gap between
online and offline ecommerce world.

 A Smart phone.

Requirements:
 Android 4.3.
 Bluetooth 4.0
How does Beacon work?

 Beacon sends a unique signal by a Bluetooth low energy.


 User’s smart phones pick up a signal.
 A beacon-enabled user’s app on the phone sends a signal to an online platform.
 The platform tells the app to perform an action.
 The app formats the information.
 The user receives the Notification.
Why do we need Beacon Technology?

 Beacon :blur the line between online and offline.

Results and Analysis of Case studies

 Hillshire Brands experienced a twentyfold increase in purchase intent for its


American Craft link sausage products after deploying Apple's iBeacon system.
Hillshire attracted 6,000 in-store engagements within 48 hours of applying beacon
technology.

 Macy’s recently announced an expanded partnership with shopkick that represents the
largest beacon deployment to date, with the technology to roll out to 4,000 Macy’s
locations — bringing the total number of locations using shop kick to 7, 500. And, also
macy’s started the use of shopBeacon.
Current status of retail market
Future Scope:

 On airports and Railways- To notify the user about the departure, delays, gate,
platforms.

 Government buildings- To, know where one has to report.

 Schools and colleges- It can be used in schools and colleges at the time of
counselling. Student will get the notification about how many seats are available,
cut-off and all.

 Shopping malls- To notify the user about the deals and discounts.
Conclusion:

 Beacon technology is still in its infancy and we are learning more about it as testing
continues. The benefits of this technology are a lot and there are yet more to
discover.

 Till now, it provide seamless experience to consumer which ultimately results in


high shopping rates which results in enhancement of e-commerce as well.

 Hence, there are various other areas where this technology can be used specifically
in India. As, this technology is widespread in US and other countries but there’s a
lot of work which is need to be done on it in India.
