CHAPTER 1
1 Introduction
Substantial updates and improvements have been made to the HVAC application for the AVEVA Plant (12
Series) release. This manual is designed to help the HVAC Designer and Administrator understand these
updates and improvements.
1.1 Aim
Provide enough information so that HVAC Designer and Administrator are familiar with the updates and
improvements made to the HVAC application in AVEVA Plant (12 Series).
1.2 Objectives
1.3 Prerequisites
All Trainees must have attended TM-1103 - Heating, Ventilation & Air Conditioning Modelling or be very
familiar with HVAC Design using AVEVA Plant (PDMS).
Training will consist of oral and visual presentations, demonstrations and set exercises. Each workstation
will have a training project, populated with model objects. This will be used by the trainees to practice their
methods, and complete the set exercises.
Certain text styles are used to indicate special situations throughout this document.
Menu pull downs and button press actions are indicated by bold dark turquoise text.
Additional information and references to other documents will be noted by the styles shown below.
L Additional information
Refer to other documentation
System prompts will be in bold, italicised text with inverted commas i.e. 'Choose function'. Example files or
inputs will be in the courier new font, colours and styles used as before. www.aveva.com

CHAPTER 2
2 HVAC Systems
Systems are Process Groups for example Supply (SUPPLY1) or (SUPPLY2), Extract (EXTRACT), Exhaust
(EXHAUST) etc. AVEVA Plant Elements for example Pipes, Equipment and HVAC can be allocated to these
Systems. As these elements are allocated to a System various attributes of the system can be set
automatically on them, for example Description and Function.
Before an element can be allocated to a System the system must exist, for the purposes of the training 3
systems will be created, Supply, Extract and Exhaust.
Select OK
To create a System for AVEVA Plant applications the Designer must have administration access, i.e. must
be a free user or a member of the DESADMIN Team. They must also be a member of the Team that owns
the data to be updated. On the Sample Project the team required would be PPROJECT. During the Training
only new data will be created.
In the Design module select Create > System Hierarchy from the main pull down menu. The System
Hierarchy form will be displayed.
L The System Hierarchy menu option will not be available unless the user has correct access
rights.

From the 12.0 SP5 release onward, two methods can be used to add HVAC to a System. On creation of the
HVAC the user can assign the HVAC to a Primary System using an option list.
Alternatively, the user can navigate to a suitable HVAC zone (e.g. /HEATING-VENTS) and select
Utilities>System from the main menu. The Modify Design System is displayed.

CHAPTER 5
5 HVAC Spooling
HVAC Spooling allows branches to be split into spools; this is similar to AVEVA Plant Piping. The Spool in
the list of spools is always highlighted in the graphical view on selection.
The Spool content is automatically generated by the default ‘Works Fitted’ properties in the Catalogue
Datasets. There are spool modification options on the HVAC Spool Manager form to Add or Remove
elements from Spool.
When this is invoked the user is prompted to select adjacent elements, and the ‘Works Fitted’ properties are
set by the system.
Spools can be named at Generation time by form input or by auto-naming rules set up by the user.
Note the HVAC Spool Site /HLD85 used in the chapter is created using –

The HVAC administrator has certain administrative tasks to set up company HVAC sketches.
Create a Draft template drawing (Use the AVEVA sample as an example) This template has the Views, view
directions etc with any HVAC representation and style rules for layers and dimensions.
Create a backing sheet that is referenced by the template. (again, copy the AVEVA sample) This backing
sheet has the company logo and title block; but also has the MTO and assembly tables etc.
The administrator can set up a batch job to produce sketches in batch using the common object !!HVAC
Sketch.
