INTRODUCTION
Rationale
People nowadays are fond of using social networking sites which make
communication easier. Social networking sites that are commonly used are Facebook and
Twitter. Facebook is the world's most popular social networking website. It makes it easy
for one to connect and share with his family and friends online. Facebook has even
helped the web become more open and social. Meanwhile, is a real-time information
network that connects one to the latest stories, ideas, opinions, and news about what he
finds interesting. One simply find the accounts he finds most compelling and follows the
conversations. The advantages and the disadvantages of the social networking sites to the
study habits of the students called the researchers’ attention because many students have
been getting addicted to using social networking sites. The researches have chosen the
topic, about the effects of using Facebook and Twitter on the study habits of the third year
YAIS students to know the positive and the negative effects of the chosen social
networking sites on the studies of third year students of Young Achievers International
School. This topic urged the researchers to have chosen this general topic because we
noticed that most of the students nowadays are encountering addiction in social
networking sites like Facebook and Twitter. The researchers gave some information about
the chosen social networking sites: Facebook is an online social networking service,
whose name stems from was expanded to other colleges in the Boston area, the Ivy
League, and Stanford University. It the colloquial name for the book given to students at
the start of the academic year by some university administrations in the United States to
help students get to know each other. It was founded in February 2004 by Mark
Zuckerberg with his college roommates and fellow Harvard University students Eduardo
Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes. The website's
membership was initially limited by the founders to Harvard students, but gradually
added support for students at various other universities before opening to high school
students, and eventually to anyone aged 13 or over. Facebook now allows any users who
declare themselves to be at least 13 years old to become registered users of the site. Users
must register before using the site, after which they may create a personal profile, add
other users as friends, exchange messages, and receive automatic notifications when they
update their profile. Additionally, users may join common-interest user groups, organized
by workplace, school or college, or other characteristics, and categorize their friends into
lists such as "People from Work" or "Close Friends". As of September 2012, Facebook
has over one billion active users, of which 8.7% are fake. According to a May
2011 Consumer Reports survey, there are 7.5 million children under 13 with accounts and
Twitter is an online social networking service and micro blogging service that
enables its users to send and read text-based messages of up to 140 characters, known as
"tweets". Twitter was created in March 2006 by Jack Dorsey and by July, the social
networking site was launched. The service rapidly gained worldwide popularity, with
over 500 million registered users as of 2012, generating over 340 million tweets daily and
handling over 1.6 billion search queries per day. Since its launch, Twitter has become one
of the ten most visited websites on the Internet, and has been described as "the SMS of
the Internet." Unregistered users can read tweets, while registered users can post tweets
through the website interface, SMS, or a range of apps for mobile devices. Twitter Inc. is
based in San Francisco, with additional servers and offices in New York City, Boston,
Our general problem is, “What are the effects of using Facebook and Twitter on
