Volvo / Renault
I-Shift / Optidrive dual-clutch transmission for Volvo / Renault is a system that switches a manual
transmission by means of an electronic shifting unit. In many areas in the market there is still uncertainty
concerning the exchange of such a component. In this short blog, we demonstrate a "step by step" guide
for exchanging a Volvo I-Shift or a Renault Optidriver unit.

Remove lower part


Using the screwdrivers, carefully lever the lower part of the shifting unit out of the gear housing.
If the shifting unit has not been removed for a long time, use another suitable tool to loosen the lower part
and lift it slightly.
Then it can be completely lifted out.

All sealing surfaces must be clean and grease-free. Always use new seals!

Turn the shifting unit so that it stands above the shifting fork - set carefully 
Insert a new seal and gently connect the plug on the bottom of the control unit - make sure that it is
firmly seated! Carefully place the cover with the control unit. In doing so, make sure that the
conductor lines under the cover do not twist or crease disadvantageously. Screw in all the fastening
screws of the cover and tighten them hand-tight.

Insert the new seal on the gearbox and insert the guide pins into the gearbox as shown in the figure.

Unscrew guide pins

Screw in all the screws of the shifting unit and tighten hand-tight.

Tighten the 6 screws of the upper cover with the required torque (24 +/- 4 Nm)
Tighten the screws of the shift unit diagonally with the required torque (110 +/- 10 Nm). Ensure that
the shifting unit and the upper cover sit evenly. Caution: The housing and the cover must not twist or
be under tension.

The further installation is carried out in the reverse order of removal.

After the shifting unit has been completely assembled, an initialisation of the shifting/circuit must be
performed with a suitable diagnostic device.
