TV Antenna systems
TV ANTENNA
SYSTEMS
RYMSA manufactures a broad range of antennas for the transmission of TV signals in the VHF and UHF
bands.
Antenna systems are currently formed by stacking single radiating elements properly disposed and fed with the
adequate phase and amplitude. These unitary radiators can be either directional, as those based on panel or cavity
solutions, or dipole-style providing omni or quasi-omnidirectional performances.
RYMSA designs the single antenna elements succeeding in the challenge of displaying the necessary
ruggedness minimizing wind load and weight, and ready to remain weatherproof for a long life withstanding any
sort of extreme climatic conditions. This versatility allows using them also individually for simple needs such as relay
sites.
Power dividers and interconnecting lines (both flexible and rigid), are utilized to build the distribution
network which transports the signals from the main transmission line up to each radiating element. The very
assorted range of different models of these products manufactured by RYMSA ensures the capability of satisfying
any possible request, from simple arrays to complex high power antenna systems.
The antenna systems can be conceived either to be installed on the site mast element by element, and
therefore supplied partially disassembled, or fully assembled in plant and delivered as a unitized integrated product.
Examples of the latter are the UHF panel spines and the superturnstile antennas.
VHF TV Antennas
RYMSA AT11 series for B-I and AT13 series for B-III constitute a
comprehensive range of antennas for these frequencies.
Panel systems: the arrays of panels are the most versatile solution to
implement radiation patterns customized to any particular coverage
requirement. Ideal for middle to big masts and multichannel operation,
they also allow reaching the high power ratings frequently required in
those situations. RYMSA VHF TV panel systems can be classified as

Radio antenna systems
RYMSA manufactures a broad range of antennas for the transmission of radio signals in B-II (FM & IBOC)
and B-III (DAB).
Antenna systems are currently formed by stacking single radiating elements properly disposed and fed with
the adequate phase and amplitude. These unitary radiators can be either directional, as those based on panel or
cavity solutions, or dipole-style providing omni or quasi-omnidirectional performances.
ANTENNA
SYSTEMS
RADIO
RYMSA AT12 series offers an extensive range of radiating elements for applications in FM and IBOC radio.
Digital radio needs in DAB B-III are covered by AT13 (included at TV Antenna Systems section of this catalog) and
AT14 series.

Power splitters
All bands I, II, III, IV/V
RYMSA manufactures a wide range of power splitters for varied uses. As an essential component to build
broadcast antenna systems, the power splitters are designed and manufactured to guarantee most stringent
performances, minimizing VSWR and insertion loss. Broadband features across each broadcast working band
(B-I, B-II, B-III, B-IV/V) lead to a high versatility for multichannel applications.
In general terms, the power dividers are constructed as the combination of junction boxes with multi-stage
impedance transformers, which can be supplied in two different topologies: Series and Parallel transformer.
The latter are maximizing peak power admission, so that they are especially suitable to deal with digital
applications.
RYMSA provides symmetrical and asymmetrical power dividers. The latter are utilized to supply unequal power

customized horizontal radiation patterns and it is also useful when an exhaustive control of the vertical
radiation pattern is desired. A very wide range of asymmetrical power ratios can be provided for all coaxial
sizes and frequency ranges.

Interconnection lines
The implementation of broadcast antennas by stacking arrays of elementary radiators requires the use of a
power splitting network, to make the signals reach every unitary element with the appropriate phase and
amplitude. This is achieved by using transmission lines interconnecting the radiating elements with the power
splitter outputs. For complex dividers, composed of several splitters, these lines are also used for the
connectivity between them.
RYMSA provides flexible and rigid interconnection lines. The connections from the splitters to the unitary
antennas are usually implemented with flexible cables. Inter-splitter connections are made either with flexible
or rigid line.
Flexible lines can be provided either using foam or air dielectric cable. Several sizes with a varied type of
connectors are available, as for the rigid lines. Each manufactured flexible and rigid interconnection line is
properly coded to enable its identification within the antenna system, and put under exhaustive quality tests,

DTV UHF Mask filters & combiners
Mask Filters
The excellence in quality of the broadcast services strongly depends on the ellimination of the in-band and
out-of-band spurious emissions generated by the proccess of amplification at the transmitters. Terrestrial digital TV
(DTV) emissions of all the existing standards require to guarantee the spectral channel response by fulfiling certain
mask requests. This is achieved by the use of filters at the transmitter outputs.
For DTV applications RYMSA offers a full range of coaxial (TEM) bandpass filters, FLDV series, which cover
a wide scope of power handling levels. RYMSA FLDV filters support channel bandwidths of 6, 7 and 8 MHz, and are
tunable to any frequency within the UHF TV band. The use of the inter-cavity feedback technique by crossed
couplings allows the compliance of the mask specifications required by DVB-T, ISDB-T and ATSC. This catalog offers
a most typical mask response for each digital standard and every RYMSA filter model. Any other tuning shape not
included is likely to be achieved by analysis on demand.
For high power applications, RYMSA FLDV models are supplied with a liquid cooled circuit, which avoids the
distortion in the filter mask response due to thermal drift. A cooling system unit, ready for use with several number
of filters at once is also available. However, the maximum power handling of any filter is ultimately limited by the
MASK FILTERS
& COMBINERS
decrease of the breakdown voltage with the altitude of the operating site. The nominal power levels displayed at
DTV UHF
this catalog are specified for 350m above sea level, thus a derating table is included at the end of this section for
evaluating power handling at any other altitude.
For very high power needs, RYMSA also makes available a range of waveguide dual-mode filters, with
similar mask shape characteristics than their coaxial counterparts.
A channel combiner is a passive RF device devoted to sum on a common output the signals produced from
several different sources, keeping a high isolation between them, and minimizing ohmic and return loss. DTV needs
of this type are currently covered by RYMSA by using constant impedance combiners as the preferred choice.
The filters are usually bandpass type, either coaxial (TEM) or waveguide, and their selectivity is the
parameter that defines the combiner behaviour in terms of channel spacing. An additional bandpass filter is
sometimes used at the WB input of the cell, in order to achieve greater isolation between inputs.
Due to their expandable nature by the cascade connection of several cells, constant impedance combiners
are the most versatile solution, offering the best performances. Generally speaking, almost any complex combining
system for digital applications, is implemented using this technique.
The use of mask filters to build this type of combiners allows to provide both channel combination features
and mask shape characteristics to the signals at once, thus avoiding the use of a single filter at the transmitter
outputs. These devices are known as Mask Combiners.

DTV UHF Mask filters & combiners
RYMSA DPDV constant impedance mask combiner series make good use of the previously described FLDV
bandpass filters, to offer a very wide portfolio of standardized constant impedance models, ranging from low to high
power requirements, and displaying the same kind of outstanding electrical versatility as their constituent filters.
This electrical finesse is enhanced by a very compact mechanical design of each constant impedance cell aimed to
save room in the transmitting facilities.
mask combiners of other type on request, such as star point or manifold BANDPASS FILTER
configurations. They are especially suitable for very high power needs
requiring deeply customized solutions. INPUT 2 OUTPUT
BANDPASS FILTER
A star point combiner of N channels is built as the parallel
connection of N bandpass filters to a common point where the output is
located, each one tuned to one of the desired channel frequencies.
MASK FILTERS
& COMBINERS
DTV UHF
INPUT N
The system is able to work provided that at each filter output, all the BANDPASS FILTER
N-1 remaining filters present an open circuit impedance.
STAR POINT CONFIGURATION
This configuration keeps many of the performances related with the
use of filters, though without the expandable nature of the constant
OUTPUT
impedance type, and just for a limited number of channels.
INPUT N
In a manifold combiner of N channels, N filters are connected in
parallel to a common transmission line with one short circuit at one end and BANDPASS FILTER
the system output at the other end. The overall performances depend on the
position of the filters along the line and on the distance to the short circuit.
INPUT 2
The manifold retains many of the performances related to the use of
filters, and it is expandable to a higher number of channels, but in a less BANDPASS FILTER
easy way than the constant impedance configuration: the length of the
transmission line and the filters allocation have to be recalculated. INPUT 1
BANDPASS FILTER
The number of channels able to be implemented is greater than that
achieved with the star-point configuration. SHORT CIRCUIT

FLDV-19X DTV high power filters are provided with a tubed cold plate integrated in the filter frame, with
the necessary thermostats. The cooling system supplies a coolant’s constant flow that removes the heat
from the filter body, allowing the operation at the highest RMS power handling with no impact on the
radioelectrical response.
The liquid cooling system basically consists of a central unit and a dry cooler, properly interconnected
between them and with the filter’s cold plates. The central unit includes the coolant’s tank, an electrical
pump, a control circuit with a signalling panel that governs and displays the system functions, and all the
necessary flow switches and electrically-driven valves.
The system supplies the necessary alarms and interlocks to prevent it from malfunction, and it is ready to

TV Non-mask combiners
A channel combiner is a passive RF device devoted to sum on a common output the signals produced from
several different sources, keeping a high isolation between them, and minimizing ohmic and return loss.
Digital TV scenarios not involving the need of providing both combination features and mask response at
once, can make use of non-mask channel combiners, as any application still required on analog TV.
RYMSA manufactures non-mask channel combiners for all TV frequency ranges (B-I, B-III, B-IV/V), from
low power to very high power applications, and displaying several different construction techniques. These
techniques are frequently involving the use of filters, which type and response are key factors of the combiner
performances.
RYMSA broadcast catalogue is compiling detailed information of a wide range of the most common
standard products related to the field of non-mask channel combiners, though RYMSA's capabilities are not limited
to them but also extended to provide custom solutions to any possible particular request, either modifying well-
proven designs or developing brand new ones.
TV NON MASK COMBINERS
INPUT INPUT
Narrowband input (NB) corresponds to the filters resonant BANDPASS FILTER
frequency, whilst the wideband input (WB) admits any other signal within
CONSTANT IMPEDANCE CONFIGURATION
the working bandwidth, provided it is enough spaced from the resonance.
Due to their expandable nature by the cascade connection of several cells, constant impedance combiners
are the most versatile solution, and offer the best performances from medium to high power levels. Generally
speaking, almost any complex combining system, as those related to digital applications, are implemented using this
technique.

In a manifold combiner of N channels, N filters are connected in

parallel to a common transmission line, which displays one short circuit at
one end and the system output at the other end. The overall BANDPASS FILTER
performances depend on the position of the filters along the transmission
line and on the distance to the short circuit.

TV NON MASK COMBINERS
The elementary two channels combiner is composed by two 3 dB
hybrid couplers and a balancing load, connected as shown at the attached
sketch. One of the two transmission lines interconnecting the hybrids
contains a loop that supplies the phase shift required to produce the
signal additions and cancellations that make the system work. The
isolation between inputs is directly related to that of the hybrids. INPUT 1 EQ LOAD

With the advantage of neither showing group delay nor thermal

between contiguous channels must be constant. Additionally, their STRETCH LINE CONFIGURATION

Non-mask Filters
The previous description of RYMSA techniques to build non-mask channel combiners normally involves the
use of a wide range of filters, which constitute by themselves a full line of RYMSA products.
Bandpass filters, coaxial (TEM) and waveguide, are the most frequent types forming RYMSA non-mask
channel combiners. Iris-coupled, comb-line and interdigital are among the available design approaches. Other
models such as lowpass, reject (notch type) and harmonic filters are available.
RYMSA develops the filters with the aid of several in-house and commercial software packages. First pre-
serial units are submitted to stringent electrical and thermal tests in order to guarantee the response and stability of
the series units.

Radio combiners
A channel combiner is a passive RF device devoted to sum on a common output the signals produced
from several different sources, keeping a high isolation between them, and minimizing ohmic and return loss.
RYMSA manufactures channel combiners for B-II applications, from low power to very high power
requests, and displaying two different construction techniques: constant impedance (DP12 series) and star point
(DS12, TS12 and XS12 series). Both techniques involve the use of bandpass filters, which type and response are
key factors of the combiner performances.
RYMSA broadcast catalogue is compiling detailed information of a wide range of the most common
standard products related to this field, though RYMSA's capabilities are not limited to them but also extended to
provide custom solutions to any possible particular request, either modifying well-proven designs or developing
brand new ones.
BANDPASS FILTER
A constant impedance combiner, also known as balanced combiner EQ
LOAD
or directional filter type, is composed by two identical filters, two 3 dB OUTPUT
The filters are bandpass type, and their selectivity is the parameter that defines the combiner behaviour in
terms of channel spacing. An additional bandpass filter is sometimes used at the WB input of the cell, in order to
achieve greater isolation between inputs.
Due to their expandable nature by the cascade connection of several cells, constant impedance combiners
are the most versatile solution, and offer the best performances from medium to high power levels. Generally
speaking, almost any complex combining system, as those related to digital applications, are implemented using this
technique.
COMBINERS
A star point combiner of N channels is built as the parallel RADIO
connection of N bandpass filters to a common point where the output is INPUT 1
located, each one tuned to one of the desired channel frequencies. BANDPASS FILTER
The system is able to work provided that at each filter output, all INPUT 2 OUTPUT
the remaining N-1 filters present an open circuit impedance. This may lead BANDPASS FILTER
to the use of transmission lines of different lenghts between the filters and
the common output.
many of the performances related with the use of filters, though without BANDPASS FILTER
the expandable nature of the constant impedance type. Moreover, for a
great number of channels, the system performances become difficult to
STAR POINT CONFIGURATION
achieve, and the star point topology starts to appear less attractive.

Connectors for coaxial cables
RYMSA offers an extensive line of connectors for most flexible coaxial cables available in the market. The
connectors are manufactured from DIN 7/16 up to EIA 6 1/8” coaxial technologies.
The connectors are designed to guarantee the integrity of the system operating under most extreme
atmospheric conditions, ensuring very long lasting weatherproofing without using additional means. Depending
of the model, the connectors can be Gas Pass and/or barrier for pressurization purposes.
Each and every of the connectors designed by RYMSA is put through our current environmental, DC peak and
weatherproofing tests.
Besides, a special importance is given to the VSWR tests to verify that the design provides a minimum
impedance mismatching between a sample of the corresponding cable and the connector.

Gas barriers
Gas barriers are usually employed at the input of one antenna system in order to isolate its weatherproofing from
that of the main feeder line.
The gas barriers are flanged terminated and manufactured either with one or two air inlets.
The one-inlet gas barrier is delivered with a copper bypass pipe intended to conduct the pressurized air from the
feeder line to the antenna system. The two-inlets gas barrier is utilized to achieve separated gas supply to both
antenna and feeder cable.

Measurement directional couplers
The purpose of this device is to analyze the quality of a transmitted signal by taking samples under operation
conditions. RYMSA measurement couplers are basically built as a directional coupler inserted on a transmission
line, carefully designed to keep the primary signal features unaffected. The coupler consists of two isolated ports
to take the signal samples, and a termination load to be used at the uncoupled port.
A typical use of the measurement couplers is to verify the forward and reflected power levels at the insertion
point, by feeding a power meter or a spectrum analyzer with the signal samples. Another usual application is the
remote monitoring of the RF signal of the transmission line.
Coupling and directivity values are factory fixed, except for the model with DIN 7/16 connectors, which is field
tunable. It is also possible to implement bi-directional couplers by installing two directional units at the same
point of the transmission line.

Patch panel / divider
For dual feed line antenna systems
These coaxial devices, usually consisting of one six-port patch panel, three u-links and one divider, are widely
utilized with antenna systems fed by means of two feeder lines.
The mentioned elements are presented in a unitised frame, and properly interconnected to enable the three
different operative configurations of the antenna system, by means of the adequate combination of the U-links:
either the total system working or each of the two half sections separately.
An extra port is frequently supplied at the patch panel to add extra possibilities, as for example the use of a test
load and the switch to a spare antenna system.
The divider can be either a power splitter or a 3 dB hybrid coupler with a balance load. Indoor and outdoor
models available.

Coaxial transfer switches
Four port transfer switches are used to switch two signal sources between loads. They are fully automated,
including independent interlock, logic and signaling circuits. They can also be operated manually.
Designed and built under strict quality control, our coaxial transfer switches offer a perfect electrical
connection and a very high isolation, low insertion loss and VSWR.
A unique feature is the coplanar port configuration that usually permits neater, more compact layouts and
requires fewer elbows. Complex switching matrices can easily be assembled.
