Job Description
50% of population in the US will be diagnosed with a mental illness or disorder at some
point in their lifetime, with more than 1 in 25 adults living with a serious mental illness such as
schizophrenia or depression. The Neuroscience department at Novartis Institutes for
Biomedical Research is looking for a highly motivated, innovative researcher with
experience in behavioral pharmacology and computational neuroscience to join a
collaborative and multidisciplinary team committed to finding treatments to improve the lives
of these patients.
Your responsibilities:
The candidate will have recently completed their doctoral training in Neurobiology with a
focus on behavioral and computational neuroscience. Experience with developing
computational methods for analyzing behavioral data, data visualization, statistical methods
and/or machine learning algorithms is highly desirable.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Developing computational methods to analyze behavioral data
• Collaborating with scientists across the department to design and execute in vivo

Minimum requirements
• A minimum of a doctoral degree in Neuroscience, Computational Biology, Psychology,
Pharmacology or related discipline, or a Master’s degree with 3+ years of relevant industry
experience
• Demonstrated expertise in analysis of complex behavioral data, statistical methods or
machine learning
• A minimum of three years of laboratory-based industrial or academic experience working
with rodents
• Experience with rodent behavioral assays and proficiency with in vivo procedures including
animal handling, dose administration, blood collection, dissection techniques, and
necropsies

• Excellent lab technique with the ability to analyze, interpret, and present data and work
independently
• A record or accomplishments that demonstrate innovation, productivity and capability to
work in a challenging, collaborative and interdisciplinary research environment
• Excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills
• Experience with in Python or R is a plus
