HOW TO MAKE AN USB BOOTABLE?

(TWO METHODS)

1st Method: Making a bootable USB drive with the Windows utility program
DiskPart.
STEP 1.Enter Windows + r , type “diskpart” and press enter.

STEP 2. The command line interface appears.


STEP 3. List the available disks by running the command “list volume” and hit Enter. Now we will
be able to see a list of your connected drives on our PC. Our USB Flash drive should be also here.
Notice the number of it.

STEP 4. Select the volume of USB from the list. Using “select volume#”
STEP 5. Clean the USB Flash Drive. Type in the word “Clean” and hit Enter. It will delete all
files.

STEP 6. Create a primary partition on your USB Flash Drive. Run the command “Create
partition primary”. You will be welcomed by the message Diskpart succeed in creating the
specified partition.
STEP 7. Format the USB Flash Drive. Run the command “format fs=ntfs” and hit Enter.
Note: For small drives it will take only few minutes. For 64Gb USB Thumb Drives it may take hours.
So, be patient.

STEP 8. Print Active on command line interface.


STEP 9. Allocate a letter to your bootable drive. Run the command “Assign” and hit Enter.

STEP 10. Final step. Choose one of the Windows Vista, 7, 8, 8.1, 10 etc. OS and copy the installation
files on your USB.

2nd Method: Create a bootable USB with external tools


There are many freeware programs suitable for all operating systems (including Linux) that can take over
the tasks of making bootable USB other than manual device management. Some of the most popular are
Rufus, WinUSB, and UNetbootin etc. "

Creating Bootable USB with WinUSB


STEP 1. Download the Windows 10 ISO file. Read how to download WIndows 10 ISO from
Microsoft, if you’re unsure.
STEP 2. Download & install WinUSB.
STEP 3. Connect your USB with
Laptop or PC & Open WinUSB
and select USB from drop down
menu. And press “NEXT”.
STEP 4. Select the source by navigating to the DVD or the downloaded Windows 10 ISO file. After
selection, it will be displayed in the application as shown in the screenshot below.

STEP 5. Once the Windows distribution and USB stick are selected, click “Next” and see the
WinUSB proposed option to create a Bootable USB drive. If there is enough free space, WinUSB will
prompt you to make it bootable without formatting as shown below in the screenshot on the left.
If there isn’t enough space, WinUSB will offer the following options:
 Format the Drive
 Cancel by clicking Back
 Clear Space on the drive manually. (WinUSB will automatically detect the release of the
space and will propose to continue without formatting.)
STEP 6. Ok, now, when format option selected, just click the “Yes” button to start Windows 10
Bootable USB drive creation! The completion percentage will be displayed by the progress bar,
highlighted in the screenshot below.

STEP7. Once the process finishes, you’ll be greeted by the below popup.

Now we can use this USB to install Windows in Laptop or PC
