ADHIKAAR (Analysis)

DELHI COLLEGE OF ARTS AND COMMERCE

METRICES:

1) NEED- In the past 3 years, 67% of women harassment cases in Delhi have happened in the
commutation sector. People (especially women) hesitate to travel in autos, metros and
buses because they are not unsafe and accessible enough. The air quality index in Delhi has
degraded 30 times below the standard levels due to the current modes of transportation
being extremely polluting.
2) NEED ASSESSMENT- Project Adhikaar has approached this problem in a very effective way.
This project aims to provide employment to women in the commutation sector. This will give
women passengers safer options to travel and the women who will taking up jobs in
commutation sector will get a good source of livelihood and will boost their confidence to
step out in the real world.
3) BUSINESS MODEL- The project aims to infuse women drivers in all commercial
transportation services such as e-rickshaws. The project functions in 3 stages: 1. Mobilizing:
Where women are recruited from slums through recruitment drives and NGO’s. 2. Training: The
training for various commercial vehicles takes place in between 2 weeks and 6 months
(depending on the vehicle) along with required self-defence and personality development skills. .
3. Placement: The fully trained women hit the roads and earn a monthly fixed income up to INR
30000 empowering their lives financially.
4) INNOVATION- The innovation in this model is the emphasis on female e-rickshaw drivers
which is solving three problems in this society. Due to this women passengers will have safer
options to travel at night. Women drivers will get a respectable job rather than working at
home and will become financially independent and more e-rickshaws will result in less
pollution on roads.
5) EMPOWERMENT- The project clearly empowers the women. Women getting employment
and stepping out of their homes for such jobs challenges the conventional mind set of driving
being a male dominated profession and will boost the confidence of women to live a more
independent life. Also the already working women will be encouraged to work till late and they
won’t fear going back home late at night due to the availability of female drivers.
6) SUSTAINABILITY- The Project provides fixed incomes to the drivers trained under the project.
This will enable them to acquire their own vehicles and become self-sustained entrepreneurs.
7) SCALE- The project began its pilot stage in Trilokpuri and gradually spread over Govindpuri
and Mundka.
8) SCALIBILITY- Apart from being e-rickshaw drivers, women can also take up other jobs in
commutation sector like a bus conductor. This project can spread operations in cities near
Delhi like Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Jhajjar.
9) ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT- The increase in the number of e-rickshaws will have no negative
impact on the environment.
10) ECONOMICAL IMPACT- The women who would become a part of this project will earn a
fixed income of around 30,000 INR monthly. More jobs mean more income, more income
means more consumer spending and more consumer spending would mean more growth.
So, this project definitely has a positive economic impact.
11) DIRECT IMPACT- This project will have a direct impact on the commutation sector in terms of
job creation and a direct impact on the pollution levels. Other impacts would include
decrease in women harassment cases and women empowerment.
12) INDIRECT IMPACT- The indirect impact would be change in the mindset of people about the
commutation sector being a male dominated sector.
13) REPLICABALITY- This business model can be effectively used in other cities of NCR as well.
