INTRODUCTION
A geological trip to study of H%m*+*"*+*& 'eo"o'+  led by Prof.
(Dr.) A.K Singh to Dehradun. The trip guided by Dr. R. A!"i
and accompanied by Dr. U.S Prasad.  The trip was organized for
four day study tour of eld exposure of dierent stratigraphic
se!uence" sedimentology and tectonic settings of himayalayan
region of Dehradun #ussoorie sector of $arhwal region consisting
of #h$ %$ss$r Hi"a%a&an and S'-hi"a%a&an .

DA- 1
MADEV*A AREA+ DEHRADUN
Stop1: Maldevta Area (near Som River)
%ere we examine #ain thrust boundary &#T'( b)w Shi*ali+ hills
and lower %imalayan hills. There is fault along Som ,i*er. Stri+e is
/ along 01-S2 and dip is 3/ degree long 0-2. Drop stone found
which e*idence of glaciations. 4t is a great e*ent of freezing in
which entire earth was freezing. 5n ri*er bed we found boulders
of +rol &limestone( and there is angular fragment inside clay
matrix.
 Stop2: Chandpur
The 6handpur 7ormation is exposed along this mule trac+ from
the Toll barrier to 8athanghat for about .9+m. The se!uence
consists of blac+ to grey argillites with interbedded sandstone and
siltstone. Sandstone and siltstone within the argillites are : to 9
em thic+ and show laminations. The sandstone gets relati*ely
thic+er in the upper part and can be traced for few hundred
meters. These sandstones show laminations and pass upward into
0agthat 7ormation. The scale of lamination" continuity of thinly
bedded units and straight planar contacts between layers indicate
their deposition under low energy conditions" most probably in
lagoons in the nearshore shelf .

 Stop3: Naghathat (middle shivalik)

The 0agthat ;uartzite occurs for a distance of about <9/ meters
at 8athanghat. The thinly bedded 6handpur 7ormation passes
transitionally into thinly to thic+ly bedded se!uence of siltstone
with interbedded argillites &mudstones( in the lower part. 4t shows
laminations and is grey to purple coloured. %igher up" thinly
bedded !uartzite sandstone with interbedded shale pass into
thic+ly-bedded grey to white !uartzite. Locally gritty !uartzite is
p=resent. 0ear the contact of 'laini 7ormation glauconitic and
pyritebearing !uartzite is present. Trough cross stratication"
ripple be.dding and parallel lamination are commonly obser*ed.
4nterbedded siltstone and mudstone show sharp contact
relationship. The mixed type of facies &interbedded !uartzite"
siltstone and rarely shale( ha*e been deposited in mixed to sandy
tidal >at en*ironment &Singh" ?<@(.
 Stop4: andel River
These are e*idence of a source existence. 8lenty of limestone are
founded. Sandy matrix roc+s are also be found. crol D limestone
are present. #icrobial acti*ity is *ery high. 1e get salt
psuedomorphous. 1e saw shale with organic content &high
phosphorous phosphate(.

RISHIKESH
 Stop2: 2
Stop :' is located at the 4ron 'ridge &:.3 +m from Dehra Dun(
and #ohand ,ao intersection &7ig. :(. There are cli-forming
sandstones on the southern ban+ of the ri*er. Low-lying ri*er-bed
outcrops trending /I-?/J are" howe*er" the subEect of interest
at this outcrop. The extent of these low-lying exposures is B/ m
