MIDTERM SPEECH

SPEECH OUTLINE

INTRODUCTION:
Attention getter:
Does anyone know how a road is built? I remembered as a child I believed that a
roadway only involved the application of something black. Of course, when I started the
career of “Civil Engineering” I realized that my first impression was very wrong and
that made me open my eyes.

Reveal the topic:

I am going to talk about you the process in which a roadway is made.

Relate the topic to the audience:

Maybe, when we travel, walk down the streets or go somewhere, we usually see a
roadway. In all places there is a roadway. But, Have you ever wondered how the
process of this project came to be?

Establish credibility:
A roadway is not just a simple project or an access road. A road allows the movement
of vehicles, drivers and pedestrians. According to the Transport and Road Manual
(MTC), a highway in Peru can cost around the 40 million soles.

Preview of Central idea:

Through my research for this speech I learned that to build a roadway involves three
major steps: do the project planning, the execution of the roadway and road signs.

BODY
(Transition to major point I) Let’s start with the project planning.
I. Proper planning and decision making in the construction of roadway are essential.
A. As defined by the MTC, there are aspects to study before the Project.
B. Duration of planning may vary.
(Transition to major point II) Now that you know something about the planning,
let´s look at how is the execution.

II. The execution of the roadway influences its lifespan.

A. Earthworks
B. Arm the road
(Transition to major point III) Lastly, let´s move to the final step in the
construction of a roadway, road signs.

III. The road marking on a road will ensure its proper functioning.
A. Painted the road
B. Horizontal and Vertical Signal

CONCLUSION
(Transition to Conclusion) So, now you have a better idea of the planning,
execution and its use.

Summary of Speech:
As we have seen, planning is the most important step in a roadway. Fortunately, there
are many options to build using different materials. But if a roadway doesn´t have a
good constructive process and a good signaling, they can generate accidents.

Clincher:
It’s our job as pedestrians or drivers, to take care all roadway due to the cost of building
a roadway.
