Pre- arrival

The master shall inform heads of department of the estimated time of arrival.

Senior officers and where necessary, junior officers and crew shall meet well in advance of arrival.

They should discuss all matters pertaining to the port arrival and stay.

Mooing plan

At least 24 hours before a ship reaches its destination port, a meeting is held with the relevant
person to discuss the mooring plan. The discussion should include:

-Mooring gears and equipment

-Mooring team familiarity with the safety management system(SMS) procedure

-Risk assessment

-Snap back zones

Mooring plan

 The plan include but is not limited to:


 Docking port or starboard side
 Wind and current expected
 Number and strength of bollards
 Number and position of lines
 Which lines will be passed first
 Any possible problems

Pre- mooring safety checks

The chief officer or 2nd officer will be responsible the pre-mooring safety checks the day before
mooring.

Decks should have anti-slip

Snap back areas must be clearly marked

All hazards must be clearly highlighted

Inspect all equipment used in mooring operations and correct any defects.

Check winchies for possible oil leaks.

 Check the surfaces of:


 Fairleads
 Bollards
 Bitts
 And drum ends are clean and good condition
