Case Study
2 Medtech staffs assigned to be a new section head and provided with several
deliverables related to each sections. Neither has the time for such assignment. One took
a positive approach and managed to create some (but not all) of the deliverables. The
other took what appeared to be a more negative approach with reduced productivity and
a perceived change in attitude (for the worse).

What will the Lab administration/CMT do?

Working in a laboratory requires planning, organizing, leading, and controlling.


There will be instances wherein there will be bundle of work to be done which leads to
changes in the management. Through this, a laboratory worker should always act like a
leader and be resilient. He/she should be committed into something bigger than
himself/herself.

In the case study, the best thing the Lab administration/CMT should do is to call
the attention of both medtech staff. The Lab administration/CMT should first appreciate
the right things that has been done but should still go over the shortcomings and mistakes
of both the medtech staff and reprimand the both of them straight to the point without
sugarcoating anything (Bolanio, 2019). The CMT will remind his staff about the work that
they have entered. The laboratory workers should always be flexible when it comes to
changes in the workplace assignments and thus make use of their time to accomplish
their assigned jobs (Berondo, 2019).

The CMT must always review and monitor not only the end results but the process.
In the case of the first medtech, although he/she obtained some deliverables, the desired
and exact number was not reached. The medtech did not care to finish the job. The
second was worse as he did not achieve anything. The CMT must take action and release
sanctions for both the medtechs or the poor job that they have done (Cordero, 2019).

In addition, the CMT shall listen to the reasons of both medtech staff with regards
to their unaccomplished task. Through this, the CMT will be aware of the various things
that caused them not to finish their work assignments. As a result, the CMT could hand
his/her staff a help in every work step by optimizing management style towards each
worker (Barrida, 2019). Lastly, one of the best ways to prevent issues with employees is
to be clear about standards and expectations from the start. Therefore, try to give lab
members a sense of control over their work. Help them manage their time and make them
know that there will be moments wherein personal times will be spent for work (Adeja,
2019).
