Infertility can be due to many reasons and IVF should not be considered initially for treatment. It is
practiced only when other methods like fertility drugs, surgery, and artificial insemination have failed.
In cases of infertility, the option of IVF is advisable if any one of the partners is diagnosed with any of
the following:
Endometriosis
Antibody problems

Raipur Fertility Centre understands the emotional aspect associated with infertility. Our USP is that
We believe in treating patients emotionally as well as physically. We have a holistic approach to our
treatment of fertility which can be seen in all the stages of IVF that a patient undergoes.
Ovulation Induction
In this process, the ovaries are stimulated so that they ripen and are able to release many eggs in one
cycle. This is an important process where close monitoring is done and fertility drugs are used which
helps the patients to maximize their chances of conception. The following are the steps for
understanding ovulation induction:
A Natural Cycle
A Stimulated Cycle
Benefits
Cycle Cancellation
A Natural Cycle
At the beginning of a menstrual cycle, the pituitary gland releases follicle stimulating hormone (FSH)
into the body. This causes immature eggs to develop and eggs within to ripen. Once an egg is mature,
a hormone known as luteinizing hormone (LH) is released. This leads the egg to break out and start its
journey. It moves to the uterus through the Fallopian tube.
It is seen that usually, most women would release one egg in one cycle. There have been instances of
some women who release two eggs. Also, there are women who have problems and don’t release an
egg.
Stimulated Cycle
During ovulation induction, fertility drugs are administered to mimic the hormones normally released
by the body. One week before menstruation which is the beginning of a new cycle, medicines are
given so that early ovulation can be avoided. Fertility drugs are given to mature the eggs post the
start of the new cycle. During this time, the patient’s cycle will be closely monitored to ensure the
desired process is taking place. This also helps in understanding when the eggs mature at which time
the fertility drugs are stopped and an injection is given to trigger ovulation.

IVF Benefits:
Ovulation Induction is a key step in the in vitro fertilization process. The ability to pinpoint ovulation
helps in retrieving eggs when they are fully mature but before they have been released from the
ovaries. The administration of fertility drugs leads to the maturation of multiple eggs at one time
which increases the chances of successful conception. When the eggs are collected and fertilized, any
extra embryos can be frozen which allows multiple cycles of IVF to be performed without repeating
the ovulation induction process each time.
Egg Retrieval
Egg Retrieval is a vital process in IVF. To understand how this is performed at the Raipur Fertility
center, we need to go through the following steps:
Preparation
Recovery
IVF Preparation
IVF Treatment begins with ovulation induction which is the process of stimulating and inducing the
ovaries. Once the eggs are ready to be collected, a dose of HCG (human chorionic) is given to trigger
the process and after 36 hours egg retrieval is done. Prior to the procedure, anesthesia is given. In
most cases, the patient will sleep through this procedure.
Ultra sound guided Trans-vaginal Aspiration: This is the egg collection procedure. Here a visual image
of the ovary along with its surrounding is created with the help of an ultrasound probe. Using a fine
needle, trough the upper wall of the vagina and into the ovary the insertion is done. The ultrasound
image is magnified which helps the physician to locate the individual follicles which contain the
mature eggs. With gentle suction, the contents are removed and this is referred to as aspiration.
At Raipur Fertility Centre this is done under general anesthesia as it is safe and gentle for the patients
and allows the doctors to collect more eggs.

Using a container the egg and fluid from each follicle are collected for examination and further
preparation. The procedure is very precise, requires considerable skill and is performed on both
ovaries. It takes around 15-30 minutes to complete depending upon the number of eggs. Once the
egg retrieval process is completed, the patient is kept under observation for one or two hours and
discharged.
Recovery, It is observed that post egg retrieval there is some minor discomfort like cramping,
soreness, and light spotting. Hence proper rest is required with restrictions on physical activities as
advised.
Progesterone is a very critical hormone for supporting the early pregnancy and is normally released
by the follicle after evolution. The normal hormonal process is often disturbed by the aspiration of
the follicles and hence the required amount of progesterone may not be produced. In these cases,
the patient is required to be administered supplemental progesterone which starts with egg retrieval
and is continued until the end of the cycle.
Insemination
At this stage, the sperm and eggs finally come together. Literally meaning “fertilization in glass” the
fertility experts at Raipur Centre, India are able to help patients overcome numerous type of fertility
problems. The following need to be clarified for a proper understanding of the procedure that takes
place at this stage:
Preparation
Embryo Development
Embryo Co-Culture
Preparation – After ovulation induction and egg retrieval, the collected eggs are examined and
prepared for IVF. Semen collection is done on the same day as the egg retrieval procedure and is
examined properly. Washing and sorting of the sperms are done so that only the best sperm are
combined with the eggs to maximize the chances of successful fertilization.
Embryo Development – Once fertilization takes place, cell division begins. At this stage, the embryo
will continue to be observed at regular intervals until at least 3 days post IVF. The rate of growth will
be monitored with a close watch on any abnormalities. Certain factors and norms are required and
4/7
the same is vital for the embryo to be transferred. Embryos which are multinuclear or don’t develop
cannot be transferred and will be discarded.
Embryo Co-Culture – In most cases of IVF, the embryos are formed and developed in a culture
medium which is developed in a laboratory especially for IVF. To support the developing embryo, a
sample of endometrium cells can also be used. For some women, this increases the chance of
successful implantation after embryo transfer.
Embryo transfer
This is the final stage of IVF. Here post the creation of the embryos they need to be placed in the
uterus. This two-week wait which is required to post the embryo transfer and the initial pregnancy
test can be very difficult and anxious for most patients. The qualified and dedicated team at the
Raipur center believes that understanding IVF and all its components is the key to coping with the
stress that accompanies the treatment.
Embryo Selection
Embryo Transfer
Testing
What’s Next
Embryo Selection – During the development stage, the embryos are monitored for their growth rate,
size, formation, and other factors. Basis the above findings, the embryos are judged to analyze the
best quality for successful implantation. The best quality is selected for embryo transfer. Embryos
with significant abnormalities are not suitable for transfer and discarded.
Embryo Transfer
This procedure of embryo transfer in IVF Raipur is usually done around three to five days after the egg
retrieval is done. There would be certain IVF cycles where frozen embryos are used. In such cases, an
ultrasound examination is done and the patient is monitored well. After two days of ovulation, the
embryos will be placed. A thin catheter is threaded through the opening in the cervix and the
embryos are gently deposited into the uterus. There is very little discomfort in this procedure and
anesthesia is not required.
Recovery and Implantation – After the transfer procedure, the patients are advised to take it easy for
next few days. It is advisable to have limited physical activity with a complete restriction on
strenuous activities. While nothing much can be done at this point which will help in successful
implantation, a proper diet and rest with minimum stress will go a long way towards the health and
well being of the patient.
5/7
Testing – after approximately fourteen days post the embryo transfer procedure, a blood test is done
which will measure the amount of HCG or human chorionic gonadotropin. This is required as this
hormone is released only post implantation and hence will help in detecting pregnancy. If the
pregnancy is detected an ultrasound scan is done for confirmation and determination of the number
of embryos implanted and ensures a normal progression.
What’s next – If pregnancy has taken place, progesterone treatments will be continued for a period of
time and then be gradually reduced as gradually the body will take charge of the normal hormone
production. Also, a regular OB-GYN will now be required for the complete prenatal care. In case of
pregnancy has not taken place, progesterone supplements are stopped and the cycle is ended. If the
couple wants to go for another IVF cycle, it is advisable to wait for one or maybe two complete
menstrual cycles and then start fresh treatment. This allows the body time to recover and is also a
time for us at the Raipur center a chance to review our treatment in details and if required do some
strategy changes in the forthcoming cycles. Also if the frozen embryos are available for transfer, the
ovulation induction phase will not be required in the subsequent IVF cycles.
Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) due to superovulation is a critical complication which can
happen due to IVF. However, this can be treated properly at the Raipur Fertility clinic.
In all the methods associated with assisted reproductive technology, the chances of multiple
pregnancies are considerably higher. This happens as more than one egg or embryo is transferred.
Once again there are solutions and treatments for multiple pregnancies. Also, there is very minute
chance of an ectopic pregnancy with IVF. However, this is not due to the procedure but it happens
due to the fact that women going through IVF already have damaged tubes which make them
vulnerable to having an ectopic.
National or international couples opting considering our IVF treatment in India can best evaluate and
compare the IVF clinics once they look at the success rate.
