Experiment #3

Fiber Optics

I. OBJECTIVES
To set up the Fiber Optics Educator with its tools to familiarize and explore fiber optics.

II. EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS
 Fiber Optics Educator

III. OBSERVATIONS
It is observed that the inputted voice signal through the lapel in the fiber optic
educator will be converted to electrical signal then to a light that will be transmitted to
a receiver and converted back to voice. The signals being transmitted is in analog form.
It is also observed that the intensity of the light affects the transmission through fiber
optics because attenuation, attenuation is the reduction of the light signal as it is
transmitted to the receiver. The cable being used is a low cost plastic cable.

IV. CONCLUSIONS
In this experiment it can be concluded that signals can be transmitted through
light. Understanding fiber optics is made easier with the aid of Fiber Optics Educator.
The intensity of light affects the signal being transmitted. The higher the intensity is the
clearer the signal being transmitted. The cable also affects the signal. Shorter cable
means it is much clearer because attenuation is being lessen.
