Introduction

Young students have their different dreams and what they want to be in

future. In choosing path, prior to the dreams of students is significant, they need

to know what suitable course for them, and students must know if their course

are fit to their individual skills and that could help them to choose easily about

their career path in college, so that will not be hard for them and lead them to the

right course. (Penedilla, Rosaldo 2017). Furthermore Gantz (2016) said that in

senior high school may the student choose a course according to their career

track in grade 11 and 12 in terms of related subjects in college. In senior high

school the students specialized these even learning areas of the core curriculum,

but it depends on their what tracks will they chose, it is like a mini course in

senior high school and many different subject like natural science, social science,

politics and other subjects

Hajilan and Darong (2017) indicate that in choosing career path of

students must be well planned based on what they want to be, some student had

the ability to choose their own course, but the parents making a choice or

influencing their children, by the mother’s educational background and father’s

occupation attainment. The parents can influence their children by being a

model. Also students can be influence by what course would be fit in their skills

and ability. According to Kumar (2016) Parental influence exists in career

decision-making among students in Ethiopia. The study shows that fathers are a

major influence to students choosing their careers. Because in developing

countries fathers are the primary money maker than mothers and they are
considered the head of the family and they are educated, experienced and most

have more knowledge. And because of these, they have more influence in their

offspring's career choice. In most cultures, woman or mothers are the secondary

decision-makers in the family. They are educated, employed or academically and

economically powerful. But compared to other developed countries it is quite the

opposite where students are making their own decision rather than their parents.

While in other countries their government creates school fairs and they counsel

their students to their abilities and skills that best suit their career.

There are many factors that affects the students decision making in

choosing their strand. Therefore in this study that will be conducted in Ramon

Magsaysay Memorial Colleges School Year 2019-2020 of Basic Education

Department specifically the respondents will be Grade 10 students. This study

will provide a glimpse of strand preferences and the factors that affects their

decision making.

Theoretical Framework

Decision theory fights that all aspects of our conduct – thoughts, feelings,,

physiology and 'doings' is a decision. Each and every piece of it. What's more, in

spite of the fact that emotions and physiology are more earnestly to have any

decision over, we do have free decision with regards to our contemplations and

'doings', and these effect on the previous two. Glasser contends that we have

complete organization in the total of our 'all out conduct', prompting an

increasingly capable, engaged, codependency, accuse free, life. Glasser's

hypothesis is that no one can 'make' us do or feel anything, as everything we do

is give or get data. This data can neither cause us to do or feel anything. It is our

decision how we see or channel the data, and it is our decision how we react to

it. (Doring 2017). Decision making have a big part to this study because of

students making a choice on picking college course based to the influence of

parents, friends, and self.

reliable. The respondents will be 40 random grade 10 students.
