Installation and Uninstallation
Installation
A wizard is included on your installation CD that makes installation straightforward. Before you
begin, however, we strongly recommend you to read the following general description of the
installation procedure.

The first step of the installation procedure is to find the dongle supplied with your software.
During the installation procedure, or the first time you run an application, if you find any
difficulties installing the software, please contact us at the Textronics address given on the cover
of this guide.

The dongle is a hard lock key in the form of a plug, which is essential for the software to work.
Before installation you must insert the dongle into the parallel port of your computer, where it will
remain permanently. Preferably you should attach the dongle while your computer is turned off.
You can then connect your printer cable to the end of the dongle if you normally use a printer on
that port.

Next, start your computer under Windows. If you have any other applications running, you are
strongly advised to close them before beginning installation. Now insert your installation CD into
the CD-ROM drive of your computer.
Procedure for Installation of the Design Dobby---

of the application you wish to install, and double-click on the Dobby Setup.exe, which it
contains. The installation process will first present a dialog window recommending you to
close all other running applications. Read carefully then click next to proceed or Cancel to
abandon the installation process.

2. Upon clicking next, you will be presented with the next window that will allow you to spe-
cify the installation folder.Normally you would accept the suggested folder, but if you want

The Design Dobby screen layout

This section briefly introduces each part of the Design Dobby screen. Design Dobby
incorporates all of the standard graphical user interface features that make MS-Windows' 98
so easy to use, including windows, menus, submenus and dialog boxes. These are the tools
for working on your design.
The Design Dobby application window
The main Design Dobby window consists of the application title bar, menu bar, tool bar and
main workspace. Within this workspace you have eight windows. It also provides two more
sub windows, in case there are Extra Warp and Extra Weft.
The Design Dobby graphic shell
The entire working area of the screen has been divided into eleven well-defined windows.
They are named Peg, Draft, Design, Dent, Extra warp, Extra weft for the distinct functions
they perform in the making of a design.
The tool to be used while working on these windows is the pointed cursor of the mouse. Title bar

Working in the graphic shell
Knowing what each window in the graphic shell network does is certainly not enough. You
even have to know how to operate these windows.

Let us learn that away:

Select The Graphic shell option from the Show Menu. This will open the Graphic window.
Select Draw Tool from Weave toolbar to activated the chosen window. A blinking cell
appears in the window. This blinking cell is similar to cross you mark on paper, here the
window being your paper.

Study the bottom of the screen. This is the Status window which records all the information
of activate window i.e. the name and other relevant status data. We suggest that you rely on
this window to check your workings.

Fig: Design Dobby graphical shell.

Now move the blinking cell, with the help of the mouse pointer, to the bottom left corner of
the activate window.

Check the readings in the Status window, if they all record digit one then you can be assured
that this is your point of origin.

The point of origin is the place from where all your operations will start.

Marking a cell
Just as you’d draw a cross on your paper to draft your design, you have a procedure to mark a
cell on the activated window. To mark:

Move the blinking cell with the help of the mouse pointer to the place where you want to
mark a cell.
 Your marking is now complete with the color draining out of the blinking cell.

 Cell marking is possible in the Draft, Peg, Warp, Weft, Design and denting windows.

 To unmark a cell, press right clicks.

 The scrolling facility is provided in window to view portion of the screen that is out of view.

starts.

Define the first Extra warp at the point of origin by clicking the Left Click.

Now, skip the one cell and draining a one cell and press the Left Click, each time draining a
cell to define an Extra warp.

By skipping one cell each time, work with your Extra warp, till your design gets completed.

Similarly execute the Extra Weft. This is the way to prepare an Extra Warp/weft design
manually.

combine e.g. If you want to create a weave by combining plain and 5 end satin weave pick by
pick. Repeat of the complex weave will be 10 ends X 20 picks that will set automatically.
Set the no. of weft wise weave entry to be used for combination of weave. i.e. Warp=1; Weft=2

Load the individual weaves in the Weave Book. i.e. Plain weave and 5 end Satin weave in
our example.
Now set the focus of plain weave on Weave Book
Select the first weave to be transferred in the Weave Book, in this case Plain weave and click

Matching Blanket
When you are using color ways in your design, blanket is one of the most useful views that
you can get from your design. A blanket actually is a kind of fabric that has been generated
by combining all color ways of your design. Suppose that you have N color ways in your
design. Then your blanket has N repeats height an N repeats width. The colors for warps in
each of these repeats is exactly the same colors of warps in the corresponding color way. For
example the colors for warp in repeat number 2 are the colors of color way number 2 in
warps.
Also the colors for weft will be selected in the same manner from the weft color ways. Now
it’s easy to imagine that you can find your fabric's main repeat and its different color ways
from 1 to N on the diameter of the blanket. And also you can find all possible combinations
of warp and weft color ways in your blanket.

No of warp blocks: The number of warp blocks must be set here. The default value for this
field is the number of available color ways for the design.

No of weft blocks: The number of weft blocks must be set here. The default value for
this field is the number of available color ways for the design.

List of color ways: In this list box you can see all the available color way names for the
design. Here you can choose the desired color ways you want to participate in the blanket.
The checked ones are selected in the blanket and the others will be discarded.

Show names: As mentioned before, you can find your different Color ways on the
diameter of the blanket. If you check this check box, then you can see the color way name of
each repeat on its top left corner on the diameter.

Generate Blanket: Press this button after making change in the values of warps and
wefts information to generate new blanket.
Add: After you preview the design, switch on Add video button to Add the design by just
double clicking on the blanket design swatch.
