a. The quotient of 𝑥 and −2𝑦 (− 2𝑦)
b. The total of 𝑦 2 and 𝑥 2 (𝑦 2 + 𝑥 2 )
1
c. Half t subtracted by square root of z. (− 2t -√𝑧)
d. Nine times the sum of a and 3b.[9(𝑎 + 3𝑏)]
e. Subtract 2 times cube of k from thrice of j. (3j - 2𝑘 3 )

2. Given an algebraic expression −5𝑥𝑦 + 7𝑥 2 − 1 + 9𝑦𝑥 + 7. (Total Score: 8)

a. Variables in the expression are ______x and y__________
b. Coefficient of 𝑥 2 = ______7_________
c. Constant = __________-1 and 7_______
d. Mention all like terms! __−5𝑥𝑦
and___9𝑦𝑥_______________________________________________

3. Given that 𝑎 = −4, 𝑏 = −1, 𝑐 = 4, evaluate each of the following expressions. (Total Score: 15)
a. −𝑎 + 3𝑏 + 2𝑐 = (4-3+8= 9)
𝑐(𝑎−𝑏)+𝑐
b. = 4(-4+1)+4=-8:-8=1)
2𝑎
c. 𝑏 2 + 4𝑏 2 − √𝑐 =( 1+4-2=3)
4. Expand each of the following expressions by using distributive law, then simplify if possible.
(Total Score: 15)
a. 3𝑥𝑦𝑧(−4𝑥 3 𝑦 2 𝑧) = −12𝑥 4 𝑦 3 𝑧 2
b. 2(𝑥 − 𝑦 + 1) + 3(𝑦 + 4 − 𝑥) = (2𝑥 − 2𝑦 + 1) + (3𝑦 + 12 − 3𝑥) = −𝑥 − 𝑦 + 13
c. (3𝑥 + 𝑦) (2𝑥 − 3𝑦 2 ) = 6𝑥 2 − 3𝑦 3

5. Simplify each of the following expressions. (Total Score: 15)

9x2 y4
a. = 3𝑦 3
3x2 y

−10𝑓 5𝑓 15𝑓
b. − 5𝑑 = −
5𝑑 5𝑑

25𝑒 8𝑒 5𝑑
c. ÷ 2𝑑2 =
5𝑑 4

6. Divide the algebraic expressions below by using long division, find the quotient and remainder.
(Total Score: 7)
𝑎. (3x 2 − 2x − 5) by (𝑥 + 1)= 3𝑥 + 1

7. Factorize each of the following expressions. (Total Score: 10)

b. 21𝑥𝑦 + 14𝑦 − 28𝑦𝑧 + 35𝑦𝑘 7𝑦(3𝑥 + 2 − 4𝑧 + 5𝑦)

SECTION B (WORD PROBLEM)

Solve each of the problems critically by writing Know, Ask, Do, and Conclusion. (Total Score: 20)
7. Zara is 5 years older than Kay and Mark is thrice as old as Zara. If Kay is 𝑝 years old, find:
a. Zara’s present age 5 + 𝑝
b. Mark’s present age 3(5 + 𝑝)
c. The sum of their ages in 6 years’ time [(𝑝 + 6) + (5 + 𝑃 + 6) + 3(5 + 𝑝) + 6 ]
d. The sum of their ages 3 years ago [(𝑝 − 3) + (5 + 𝑃 − 3) + 3(5 + 𝑝) − 3 ]
8. The figure show a rectangle ABCD where AB is 3r cm. Given that E is a point on the length AC such
that AE is 4r cm. If the perimeter of rectangle is 100 cm, find the length of EC.

100 = 2(3 + 4 + 𝑥)
100 = 14 + 2𝑥
2𝑥 = 100 − 14
𝑥 = 43

SECTION C OPTIONAL (CHALLENGE)

Solve these problems correctly if you want to get +𝟒 bonus point if you have finished section A and B.
2𝑥) 3(2𝑥+7)
