ABSTRACT

The researchers made a study about the level of offline mobile game addiction in
relation to academic performance of the students at Libas National High School. The
result of this study would determine the level of addiction of the students. This was done
from July 2019 to October 2019. The respondents of the study were the selected 60
students of Libas National High School with an optional name.
The research objectives were to identify which mobile game application the
respondents are usually addicted; to find out the academic performance of the
respondents; and to answer if there is any significant relationship between the level of
offline mobile game addiction and academic performance.
The study used the descriptive-correlation type of quantitative research design to
identify the relationships among variables. This also used two sets of questionnaires: the
level of offline mobile game addiction and the offline mobile game they usually play.
Chi-Square was also used in this research and the software Statistical Package for Social
Sciences. Frequency count and percentage computation was also included.
According to the results of the study, the following offline mobile games were
played by most of the respondents: Plants vs. Zombies, Wordscape, Hill Climb Racing,
and Minecraft.
In terms of the level of offline mobile game addiction, 23 (38.3%) answered
Sometimes when asked if they devote excessive amount of time in playing offline mobile
games and twenty-seven (45%) of the respondents have never experienced lack of sleep
due to offline mobile games. Hence, the respondents’ level of addiction is low.
Moreover, 20 (33.3%) of the respondents got Outstanding grades which have the
GPA of 85-89, 16 (26.7%) students got 80-85 which is Satisfactory, 14 (23.3%) of the
respondents got a 90 and above GPA which is Very Outstanding.
Furthermore, this study used the SPSS which results of Pearson Chi-Square
Asymp. Sig. (2-sided) is .289 which is greater than .05 which shows that there is a
significant relationship between the level of offline mobile game addiction and the grades
of the students.
