2. As an intern
2.1 Description:
As an intern my work was to know all about the export and import procedures and the
formalities to be for both export and as well as import for that many agent and sub agent and
my supervisor also helped in the work.

2.2 sub agent responsibilities:

Their day to day responsibilities were to receive booking from shipper for the above
customers and send approval request to our counterpart. Based on the approval they book
equipment from carrier service provider. There are many carrier service providers but few
have the strong position. Such as Hapag LLYOD, Maersk Line, CMA CGM, MSC, UASC, YML
and Evergreen etc. After booking equipment, they provide Shipping Order to the shippers
including the name of Container Freight Station (CFS). One of core responsibility was to
communicate with customers over phone and via email 24/7. As a freight forwarder they do
not have any specific service hour. Based on customers and their location they have to keep
in touch with them 24/7 and provide them desired solutions for their consignments.

2.3 CRM (customer Relationship Management):

The sub agents were also measured by the handling of the shipments without any fail and
assisting our documentations team smoothly and error freely. It is also mandatory that to
maintaining good relationship with shippers, their counterparts and ultimate customers.
Everyday different types of reports come for various shipment related issues and they need
to take immediate action to solve if there is any discrepancies or forward it to right person.

2.4 Critical observations:

During handling a shipment if they made any mistake and do not correct it, it means their
documentation team will also make mistakes because the sub agent one who is providing the
information based of carrier bookings, equipment selection, places of delivery and so on. It
will also impose financial penalty.

17 | P a g e
2.5 My view for using IT system:
Is to allow us using full IT system providing error less data to customers and can give them
easy access for their booking consignment. It will allow to access rates from all over the world
and they don’t have to wait for country representative to provide updated rates for ocean
freight and air freight.

3. Procedures

 process is completed.

3.3 Import
 BOE no. given by CMS (custom software)
 File In transit
Document status is checked like shipping bill or BOE column
Click on any of these what to be checked
-port code
-BOE no.
-Date

19 | P a g e
-after OC (out of charge)
 First check done by customs
 Examination report is there
 Superintendent holds the file of import or export

Note – LC used most of the time is LC at sight

What is EPCG?

 EPCG is export promotion capital goods

 It is issued by DGFT

 E.g.- 10,000-dollar machine applied on the duty saved amount is kept

What we export from that machine only one condition EPCG is issued if machine

will produce domestically and export internationally i.e. if

10000$ converted in INR and multiplied to dollar rate which is 70 rs

Duty is 710000*7.5 (7.5 is duty rate) = duty saved

If exporter will not produce or export 8 times the value of duty save, they have to

pay duty if they export and fulfil condition then duty is been relaxed

BCD (basic custom duty)

E.g. – 7.5% is duty

1 lakh 7.5% duty is levy

Note – jettison – captain of the ship has power to throw cargo in sea.

Hierarchy of custom

Chief commissioner of customs

Principal commissioner of customs

Commissioner of customs

Joint commissioner

Additional commissioner

DC (deputy commissioner)

AC (assistant commissioner)

21 | P a g e

Till AC are 1st grade officers and below are 2nd grade officers
3.4 Case I – clearance by custom officer denied

Export

Destination – Japan Osaka

Examination is done seeing and checking shipping bill

 Invoice article (article here is things mentioned or products)
 Things to be taken out are written with code.
 Examples of article – leather bone, leather duck, leather knot, etc.
 Below article below the bar code no. is written like 85714
In this case when sub agent appointed by CHA (custom house agent) he takes
packages that are to be exported to custom officer these products and packages are
kept in the warehouse. After customs officer checks he duly notifies to the sub agent
that packets in those it is written in Japanese it was not understandable to the
customs officer he asks it should be written in English or in Hindi also that products
specifications must be known to the custom officer

Second thing he asked that – in the packing list the name of the product clearly
should like leather bone, duck, knot etc.

Officer asked that do the above said thing or it will not be exported to the destination
.

22 | P a g e
3.5 Case II– leather boots for horse riders
Export
Destination – London
The sub agent takes packages to customs officer.
Same procedure as like before in the last page – (Export destination to
Japan Osaka)
Likewise, this case here mentioned export of leather boots to be exported from JRY (Juhi
Railway Yard) Kanpur to London.
Agent’s name -Vivek Kumar

Packages In the warehouse are been checked in by the customs officer appointed by the
government for inspection and clearance of these exports and imports and many other
procedures.

The agents takes packages and the list(packing) to officer and the officer matches or checks,
tallies the products. mentioned in the list with specific list. in this, case happened that there
were leather boots were going to be exported but with them another knee parts were also
been exporting which were not mentioned in the list so it was stopped from being in transit.

As it is against the law also or illegal that products whatever be exported even a pin that
should be mentioned in the list and if any other thing or products are exported with that If it
comes to sight then exported can be sued.

So this, export which destined to be exported to London was stopped from being exported.

6. Swot analysis of the company

Strength –
The strength of the company is that it has a good staff which is also very much laborious and
hard working. customers choose rishishwar logistics because of three factors -
 Consistency
When you work with rishishwar logistics, you will have a dedicated Sales person available to
you. They are consistent with their service level through the deal.
 Client Serving
They firmly believe that the best clients can be retained through superior service. This
benefits their clients as well as help them maintain good business terms with all.
 On Time Delivery
Logistics runs best on timely delivery. At Rishishwar Logistics they keep on logistics on track.
Their strength comes from the very experienced staff that saves time and ensure timely
deliveries.

26 | P a g e
Weakness –
 Over-dependence on people:

The logistics industry is a labour- intensive industry and thus for improved services they
need to be people-centric. The over-dependence of the company on people makes it
tedious to manage regular training, periodic performance appraisals and regular pay
hikes.

 Huge capital outlay:

Logistics is a balance between men, machine and skill sets and the returns are growth
depends on how precisely the orders are delivered. For this, it is necessary to invest huge
amounts in the right kind of transport equipment, the right people and also to hone
them on the right skill sets. Added to all this technology also play a critical role which is
also an added expense.

 Poor customer contact:

The company focuses primarily on emerging economies where infrastructure is

inadequate in many areas especially in remote locations. The last mile delivery and
customer contact are often inadequate from the company which creates dissatisfaction
in their minds and leads to loss of business.

 Low brand Recall:

Rishishwar Logistics is a relatively new player in the sector and thus does not have the
name or brand recall that many of their older competitors have or enjoy.

 Poor presence in developed economies:

27 | P a g e
Rishishwar Logistics has been focusing on emerging economies and thus have not been
able to create a strong market presence where logistics is a growing requirement.

Opportunities –
 Focus on urban migration: In emerging economies with reduced scope of agriculture,
there is an increases rate of rural to urban migration. This means that the population
in cities and towns are going to increase and as this happens there will be an increase
in the need for supply chain management services for businesses as well as
