In this scenario, your job is to create the setup for a multi-stop truckload
shipment and a less-than-truckload shipment. You will then build the
shipments, tender the multi-stop shipment to the carrier, and send a
pickup notification to the less-than-truckload carrier. You will also enter
shipment events against the truckload shipment as a carrier.
The multi-stop shipment you will be building is from the Phoenix, Arizona,
USA distribution center and to San Diego, California, USA and Los Angeles,
California, USA.

Business You are the transport planner at Phoenix Corporation in Phoenix, Arizona,
Scenario USA. Phoenix Corporation delivers all types of products to mass
merchandisers. Among those merchandisers are the chain The General
Store with outlets in San Diego, California, USA and Los Angeles,
California, USA.
You will create several shipments for multiple orders of food and
automotive parts all originating in Phoenix, and with a destination of either
San Diego or Los Angeles.
The General Store location in San Diego has been created for you, and you
will re-use the existing General Store location in Los Angeles and the
distribution center in Phoenix.
For both the truckload rates you have been quoted flat rates from Arizona
to California plus an extra charge per stop.
The truckload carrier Big Texan will decline the tender so GC3 will re-
tender to Antelope Line instead.
While the multi-stop shipment is in transport, Antelope Line will let you
know that the shipment has been delayed.

• Create truckload rates for Big Texan Trucking and Antelope Line.
• Create a Rate Preference and Rate Quailty.
• Make sure you correctly entered the rates for Big Texan Trucking
and Antelope Line between all locations in this scenario.
What is a Stop- A truckload rate can include a number of stops in its base cost and then
off Charge? charge extra for additional stops. The costs of the additional stops are
called stop-off charges.
You define the stop-off charges in ranges of stops. For example, you may
charge:
1 2 3 4 5
Truckload Rate • Stops Included in Rate defines the number of stops included in the
Offering With base cost.
Stop-off Charges - The source and destination locations count as stops so,
typically, the minimum number of stops included in the rate is
2.
• Total All Stops is the maximum number of stops allowed, no
matter what the stop-off charge is.

Stops
Truckload Rate You can define the stop-off charges on either the Rate Offering or Rate
Record With Record.
Stop-off Charges • If you define it for both, the information on the Rate Record
overrides the Rate Offering.
Truckload Rate You define the base cost, aside from the stop-off charges, on the Rate
Record Costs Record costs page.
What is Rate Rate quality is used to make carriers’ rates look more attractive or less
Quality? attractive during the optimization process.
For example, you may have a carrier that has a higher rate, but you want
GC3 to select that carrier on a certain lane because they have superior
service.
Or conversely, you have a carrier with low rates, but you only want GC3 to
select them as the carrier as a last resort due to poor performance.
This weighted cost does not affect the actual cost on the shipment; it is
only used to qualify rates.
Optimization
y Uses Rate Quality for carrier
selection only
y Rate Quality does not affect the
actual shipment cost
Rate Quality A rate quality factor defines the percentage or flat amount to add or
Factor subtract from carriers’ rates that results in a weighted rate. You can use
rate quality on any mode.
Adjustment For a high quality carrier, enter an adjustment percentage less than 100.
Percent For example:
• An adjustment percentage of 20 will lower the rate by 80%
• An adjustment percentage of 60 will lower the rate by 40%
For a low quality carrier, enter an adjustment percentage over 100. For
example:
Adjustment Flat Instead of a percentage, you can define a flat amount. For example enter
an adjustment flat of:
Assigning a Rate A rate quality can be defined on the rate offering or rate record:
Quality
• Assign the rate quality to the rate offering if you want the rate
quality to be used anytime the rate offering is considered
• Assign the rate quality to the rate record if you want the rate
quality to be used only on a specific lane
On the rate offering, assign the rate quality on the attributes tab.
Or, assign the rate quality to the rate record on the attributes tab.
If you enter a rate quality on both the rate offering and the rate
record, the rate record overrides the rate offering.
What is Rate Rate preferences are another way to configure which rates GC3 should use
Preference? for carrier selection based on a specific lane or a group of lanes, called a
rate zone.
For example there are three rates that can be used for a shipment:
• Since the mode of TL has a preferred rate, GC3 will only consider
TL rates that have a rate preference
- Rate 2 is considered because there is a rate preference defined
- Rate 3 is not considered because it has a mode of TL, but no
preference defined
• Rate 1 is considered since there are no preferred rates for LTL
When you view a shipment, it was created using Rate Preference if marked
as Preferred Carrier.
Turn on Rate After you have defined one or more rate preferences, you have to turn on
Preferences the rate preference functionality with the planning parameter called USE
RATE PREFERENCE.
Either edit the default Planning Parameter Set, or create a new Planning
Parameter Set. Planning Parameter Sets can be domain specific also.
If you have rate preferences turned on with the planning parameter, but
no preferences defined, GC3 builds shipments on a regular basis.
Change the From the Buy Shipment Manager action menu, there is an option to
Carrier using change the service provider in consideration of rate preferences. The
Rate Preference option Choose Preferred Alternatives displays a list of all valid, preferred
service providers that can move the freight.

What is an LTL Less-than-truckload (LTL) carriers charge for the amount of space that is
Rate? used on a trailer.
• Compare this to a truckload carrier that charges for the entire
trailer, no matter how much you fill with freight.
• To charge per space used, LTL rates can be structured several
different ways. Often many different rules are combined to make
up an LTL rate.
- Weight breaks set different prices per weight depending on
how much you ship.
- NMFC classes or dimensional rates set different base rates.
- Discounts lower common base prices for specific lanes.
Service time (or transit time) between source and destination is usually
defined by a number of days.
• The day of the pickup is often not counted as a service day. Only
the following days count as a service days.
• Weekends are rarely counted as service days either.
What are Rate Weight breaks are a common way to describe freight costs according to
Unit Breaks? the amount you ship.
• Rate Unit Breaks is the generic form of the same thing.
• They can be based on anything. For example temperature bands
or ship unit length.
In this example, the rate unit breaks have been defined by weight.
0 – 500 lb $22.03/cwt
501 – 2500 lb $15.31/cwt
2501 – 5000 lb $12.00/cwt
5001 – 10000 lb $10.52/cwt
What are Base LTL rates are often the product of a base rate and a discounted master
and Master rate.
Rates? • Base rates can be shared among many carriers.
• Master rates are specific to each carrier and offer discounts off the
base rate.

Create a Base When creating a Base Rate Offering, the Offering Type is LTL-BASE. You
Rate Offering do not need to define a service provider since the base rate is available for
all LTL service providers to use.
Create a Base The Base Rate Record will usually have a broad source and destination geo
Rate Record hierarchy, such as country to country. It is on the Master Rate Record
where you define the more detailed lane.
On the cost details page, you first limit the base rate to only apply for a
specific NMFC class.
When you choose your rate unit break profile, GC3 displays this page
where you specify the base cost for each weight break.
Create a Master When creating a Master Rate Offering, the Offering Type is LTL-MASTER.
Rate Offering Specify a service provider for the Master Rate Offering since the master
rates are specific to each service provider.
On the Attributes tab, associate the Master Rate Offering to the Base Rate
Offering.
Create a Master On the LTL Master Rate Record, you define the discount per lane.

• Enter orders for The General Store in San Diego and Los Angeles.
What are Reference numbers let you refer to a business object using many different
Reference names and codes. Once you define an order reference number, it can be
Numbers? used as search criteria for finding orders in the Order Manager or Visibility.
For example:
Destination Location
Source Location
Purchasing Department
Transport Department
Purchase Order ID:PO998
Order Base ID: 5664-09676
Department ID:RD23
Sales Department
To enable all involved parties to find this order, the transport department
adds all the other numbers as reference numbers on the Order Base.
• You do not know the Order Base ID. You only know the purchase
order number. You have the ability to query on PO998 to learn
about your order in GC3.
What are Remarks are text fields that allow you add detailed information to a
Remarks? business object that is specific to your process.
You can add remarks to several business objects, including order bases,
order releases, line items, locations, shipments, and shipment stops. This
information can be sent to external systems
What is a Text You can also define specific text templates to associate with a business
Template? object or remark.
• Text Template ID – allows defined or parameterized text to be
associated with this specific business object
- This text can be used on an outbound XML or a document
associated to this business object, like a bill of lading
• Remark Qualifier ID and a Text Template ID – when you choose a
Remark Qualifier and select a Text Template ID, the Remark Text
is automatically populated with pre-defined text.
Viewing Related You can view related reference numbers and/or remarks from the
Reference SmartLink in the order release manager or the shipment manager.
Numbers and This displays all reference numbers and/or remarks for related business
Remarks objects. For example, selecting this option for a shipment will display any
reference numbers associated with the:
• Shipment, shipment cost, shipment stop, ship unit and ship unit
line
• Order release
• Order base, order base ship unit or line
• Item
• Source and Destination
For example, if you click View Related Reference Numbers, you can view
all related reference numbers associated to the shipment and related
business objects. This is helpful for you to quickly review necessary
information.
What are Ship You learned previously that an Order Base represents production order,
Units and Line open purchase orders, or detailed orders. An Order Base is generally used
Items? when you want to incrementally release the order over a period of time.
When an Order Base is ready to ship, an Order Release is created which is
the shippable amount.
1000 KG
3000 KG
each
Line items describe the goods on the order. That is, you can define the
order in terms of specific packaged items.
Ship units
You define your Order Bases either with ship units or line items depending
on what information you have when entering the order. If, at the time of
entering the order you know:
• Only the kind of ship unit your goods will be shipped on, then you
define your Order Base with ship units, and optionally add
information about the contents at a later time.
• Exactly what kind of goods will be shipped, then you can define
your order with line items directly. You also have the option of
defining ship units with ship unit line items in your Order Base.
Create an Order You will create an Order Base with ship units when you want to define the
Base With Ship order based on packaging characteristics. For example, the order is
Units defined in terms of pallets, and optionally you can define what is on each
pallet.
When you enter an Order Base with ship units, automatically an Order
Release is created based on the ship unit(s).
• You can enter an ID for your Order Base. If you do not, GC3
generates one for you.
• Select ship units.
Order Base Ship If you select ship unit, GC3 displays the Order Base ship unit tab.
Unit
Click new ship unit and GC3 displays the Order Base ship unit page. On
this page, you:
• Can define an ID for your Order Base ship units if you need to.
Otherwise GC3 generates an ID for you.
• Must define source and destination location.
• Define the number and type of ship unit you want to use.
- Depending on what rates and equipment you have defined,
GC3 might need the dimensions, weight, value and volume, to
find the best rate and equipment for your shipment.
Order Base Ship If you decide to define Order Base ship unit lines:
Unit Line Item
• You need to specify what packaged item makes up this Order Base
ship unit line item.
• Enter Total Package Count, which defines the number of packaged
items across all ship units on this order.
Click save to save your order base ship unit line item.
Create an Order You will create an Order Base with line items when you want to
Base With Line incrementally release against the Order Base.
Items • You can enter an ID for your Order Base. If you do not, GC3
generates one for you.
• You select to define your Order Base with line items.
- When creating an Order Base with line items, GC3 does not
automatically create an Order Release. You must release
against the base either manually or through integration.
Order Base Line When you select line item, GC3 displays the Order Base line item tab.
Item Details From here you can add new line items.
• With each Item, you can define:
- Packaged Item ID or Item ID– the Packaged Item or just Item
you are shipping.
- Total Package Count – the total number being shipped.
- Packaging Unit and Packaging Unit Count – defines how the
Packaged Item is packaged and the number of cases.
- Transport Handling Unit– defines on what the Item is shipped
(pallet, etc.).
• You also enter origin and destination of the line item, weight,
volume, and pickup and delivery dates.
• Other details about the Item can be defined such as:
- Reference numbers
- Accessorials and Special Services.
You are able to enter as many line items as needed. After you have
entered all the line items, click next to move to the next tab, or finished if
you are done.
How is the Order The Order Release can be created from the Order Base either through
Base with Line integration or manually. There are two ways to manually release an Order
Items Released? Base:

For a contact group, also define the GC3 event on the notification tab. All
contacts in this group will be notified when this specific GC3 event occurs.

Lesson 2: Shipment Modifications and Tendering
Manual When a bulk plan is complete, often shipments go directly into the
Modifications to tendering/booking process with carriers. However, users may need to
Shipments make modifications to existing shipments.
In the first scenario, you manually changed the service provider on a
shipment because the Big Texan Trucking drivers went on strike. Other
business situations, like this, may lead to manual modifications.
One other example is that you may need to resequence the stops on a
multi-stop shipment. Although the shipment stop sequence the bulk plan
built is most efficient, it may not be operationally possible, so you can
manually resequences the stops.
For example, if product is not ready during execution, you can resequence
the stops so another stop can get picked-up first allowing the product to
be produced and become available at the other stop.
Shipment To resequence stops, from the Shipment Actions menu, select Change
Action: Shipment Route > Re-sequence Stop.

Stops
The stops are displayed with stop number. Click the radio button next to
the stop you want to move, and click move up or move down.
Before clicking ok to submit the change, the stops are displayed in the
order you indicate.
After you change the sequence of stops, if feasible, GC3 re-plans the
shipment and assigns new delivery times to all the stops on the shipment.
