While unloading LPG Tanker:

 Unload the tanker only after sunrise and before sunset and never during heavy
rains, thunderstorms or lightning.
 Check all documents relating to the tanker, such as LPG transport license, TREM
card, SRV test report, driving license, invoice of LPG etc.
 Weigh the LPG tanker on the weighbridge and record readings properly
 Fix spark arrestor to LPG tanker exhaust pipe before the tanker enters the LPG
yard.
 Park the tanker on hard stand and apply hand brakes. Put wheel chokes on all the
four wheels and then position the DCP fire extinguisher near unloading point
 Turn 'OFF' the master switch of battery
 Exit gate of LPG yard must always remain open during unloading operation
 Ensure proper earthing connections for tank and truck body
 During unloading, the tanker driver and LPG yard operator should always be
present at the site.
 Connect both liquid and vapour balancing hoses to the tanker
 Check the rotogauge reading of storage tanks as well as that of the tanker. Record
volume, temperature and pressure of LPG tanker and static tanks
 Open the liquid and vapour valves of the tanker slowly and vent out air trapped in
hose through vent pipes
 Unload the tanker first by pressure difference. When pressure is balanced, start
the unloading pump. Remember to open the vapour balancing line while
unloading through pump
 Monitor the liquid level in static tanks by checking rotogauge at regular intervals.
Ensure that static tanks are not filled beyond 85%
 After unloading of the tanker is complete, check rotogauge of static tanks and
tankers, and stop unloading pump
 Close the ball valves of tanker and fill point. Empty LPG from unloading hoses by
venting off and disconnecting hoses
 Check if the earthing connection and LPG hoses are disconnected and wheel
chokes are removed before moving the tanker
 Weigh the tanker again. Difference between initial weight and final weight is net
gas receipt.
 LPG tanker driver must check brake pressure and then move the tanker from the
LPG yard

While operating bulk LPG

 Only well-trained personnel must carry out all LPG operations

 Keep the LPG yard clean and free of dry vegetation and other flammable
materials
 Avoid all sources of ignition and make sure cautionary signages like
“No Smoking“,”No Mobile”,“No Naked Flame“ are displayed prominently
 Care should be taken while draining out water from the storage tank in order to
prevent escape of LPG

LPG Maintenance

 Permit is a pre-requisite to carry out any maintenance work

 Only authorized service personnel can carry out maintenance operations inside
the LPG yard
 Hot work like welding, heating or cutting work should be done outside the LPG
yard (fenced area). All maintenance work for burners or combustion system
should be carried out by authorized service personnel only

Do's of LPG Bulk Installation

 Maintain visitor log book

 Regularly check for proper functioning of fire fighting system and DCP fire
extinguishers
 Maintain earth pits properly
 Remove all dry grass from LPG yard periodically
 Keep gates of LPG yard closed

Don’ts of LPG Bulk Installation

 Don’t allow unauthorized persons into the LPG yard

 Don’t store any foreign material in the LPG yard
 Don’t allow battery operated instruments inside the LPG yard
 Don’t touch liquid LPG with naked hands. Always use hand gloves
 Don’t walk over pipelines

In case of leakage or fire

 Stop all operations, close all isolation valves, and raise alarm
 Use personal protective equipments/clothes while fighting fire or controlling
leakages
 In case of fire, start water sprinkler spray system directing water jet to the flame
source
 If fire is small, use DCP type fire extinguishers
 Those not performing any duty in emergency must assemble at emergency
assembly point
 Isolate main electrical system except the fire fighting system
 Stop the spread of fire by closing isolation ball valves
 Avoid all source of ignition. Block any traffic movements in case of major leakage.
 Inform plant manager, fire brigade and police if leakage/fire is not controlled.
 Give first aid and life saving treatment to injured persons
