Open Ended Lab

Objective:
Using Aspen Hysys, determine the percentage of naphtha cut of any commercial crude and vapor
fraction that will be obtained at 100°C.

Description:
The petroleum characterization method in HYSYS converts laboratory analysis of condensates,
crude oil, petroleum cuts and coal-tar liquids into a series of discrete hypothetical components.
These petroleum hypo components provide the basis for the property package to predict the
remaining thermodynamic and transport properties necessary for fluid modeling.

HYSYS produces a complete set of physical and critical properties for the petroleum hypo
components with a minimal amount of information. However, the more information you supply
about the field, the more accurate these properties will be, and better HYSYS will predict the
fluid’s actual behavior.

Procedure:
 First step in simulating this problem is to select components and fluid package. For
this, we first click on properties tab and then select required variables similarly select the
suitable fluid package.
 Then for assay we tap oil manager and select input assay and add an assay, then change
the bulk properties to used. After this, select our assay data type , selecting the
dependent and independent properties that are given in the data and put these given
values accordingly. Also, the light end is changed to input composition.
 Next step is calculating the assay, by simply tapping calculate.
 Then we add our blend to output blend and set the number of cuts.
 Before tapping output blend, we tap install oil and give stream name so that we can
simulate this.
 Then we can determine the percentage of naphtha cut by tapping on distribution plot.
