(15) J-Factor = (Si+Mn)x(P+Sn)x10exp4 shall be less than 120. (Si, Mn, P, Sn:wt%)

13.2. Rejection
13.2.1. Any item or component containing materials which have not passed the PMI shall
be clearly marked as “DO NOT USE – PMI FAILED”, and segregated from the
remainder of the stock. Disposition shall be as noted in paragraph 13.2.2, below.
13.2.2. If any material, component, or weld is found unacceptable, all other representative
materials, components, or welds (same heat, lot, etc.) shall be considered suspect.
The Buyer shall be notified immediately if a component is confirmed to have failed
the PMI. Rejected items shall be returned to the original source of supply at no cost
to the Buyer. The Seller will then have the following options, with Buyer
concurrence:

a) Scrapping/removing all materials, components, or welds represented by the

test piece (all of that heat, lot, etc.) and replacing with new components or filler
metals;
b) Performing examination of 100 % of the remainder of the represented
materials, components, or welds, and replacing each item that fails PMI;
c) Verifying correct chemistry by laboratory chemical analysis.
13.2.3. A manufacturer’s substitution of a “higher” alloy must have been previously
approved by the Buyer and reflected on appropriate fabrication drawings and/or
Purchase documentation. Previously undocumented manufacturer’s substitutions
discovered during PMI shall automatically place the affected component(s) on
“Hold”, until resolved by the Buyer. The Seller should not assume the substitution
will be approved.
13.3. Retesting
If questionable values obtained with portable analyzers are verified by laboratory
analysis, the laboratory analysis data shall be used, recorded, and submitted with
the Final Data Package.
