Feast of St.

John Bosco
Date: January 31, 2020
Venue: Fr. William Balocco Gymnasium
Celebrant: Rev. Fr. Alfred Buyao
Theme: Make an Impact
Introductory Rite

(entrance of KOA as guards – reading of prayer intentions)

Good morning! Happy Feast Day everyone!

This year’s theme Make an Impact, we give the young a chance “to be an impact”. Reflecting on
this year’s celebration’s theme, we realize that St. John Bosco’s mission is primarily for the
young people. He loved the young so much that he devoted his life for them. Don Bosco, even
during his time, had given the young a chance to discover himself, to bring out the best in him so
that others may be touched by God’s grace thru them. This is the very mission of the Father and
Teacher of youth. There is no denying that we truly are his sons and daughters. And we must
believe that we all are in his ‘dream at nine.’ We have been a part of this plan of God through St.
John Bosco.

As we come together and celebrate once more St. John Bosco, he is challenging us to stand up,
‘be an impact,’ ‘make the change’ that we are all hoping for, thus give Him, our God, glory. We
are here because you have been touched by Don Bosco. We are here because we have been
blessed.

Let us now reflect on the song ‘Oratorio,’ describing how we, sons and daughters of Don Bosco
were called to be part of his family long before we were born.
(dance-Oratorio by DBYC)

We now ask the intercession of St. John Bosco. All together: (prayer to SJB)

O Saint John Bosco, father and teacher of youth,

who labored so much for the salvation of souls,
be our guide in seeking the good of our souls
and the salvation of our neighbor.
Help us to conquer our passions
and to practice daily our faith.
Teach us to love Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament,
Mary help of Christians, and our Holy Father, the Pope,
and obtain for us the grace of dying as friends of God,
so that we may all be gathered together with you in heaven. Amen.
let us now stand and sing our entrance hymn as we pay respect to him, the Father and Teacher of
Youth, St. John Bosco. And we welcome our concelebrating priests and our Mass presider, Fr.
Alfred Buyao, Chaplain of Tarlac Provincial Jail and Orientation Year Director at Our Lady of
Peace College Seminary.

Opening Prayer
Priest: Let us pray.

Lord our God,

In your providence you have given us Saint John Bosco,
The father and teacher of youth,
Who under the guidance of the Virgin Mary
Worked with untiring zeal for the good of the Church;
Inspire us with that same apostolic charity,
To seek the salvation of our neighbor and so serve you,
The one and only good.

We ask this through our Lord Jesus

Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns
with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
One God, forever and ever.

All: Amen.
Commentator: Let us all be seated and listen to the Word of God
LITURGY OF THE WORD
First Reading (Ezek 34:11-12,15-16,23-24,30-31)
Reader: A reading from the Book of the Prophet Ezekiel

For thus says the Lord GOD:

I myself will look after and tend my sheep.
As a shepherd tends his flock
when he finds himself among his scattered sheep,
so will I tend my sheep.
I will rescue them from every place where they were scattered
when it was cloudy and dark.
I myself will pasture my sheep;
I myself will give them rest, says the Lord GOD.
The lost I will seek out, the strayed I will bring back,
the injured I will bind up, the sick I will heal
but the sleek and the strong I will destroy,
shepherding them rightly.

I will appoint one shepherd over them to pasture them,

my servant David; he shall pasture them and be their shepherd.
I, the LORD, will be their God,
and my servant David shall be prince among them.
I, the LORD, have spoken.
Thus they shall know that I, the LORD, am their God,
and they are my people, the house of Israel, says the Lord GOD.
You, my sheep, you are the sheep of my pasture,
and I am your God, says the Lord GOD.

The Word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.

Responsorial Psalm

Ang Panginoon ang aking pastol

Wala akong dapat ikapangambang anuman.

1. Luntiang pastulan doon hihimlay

Malinaw na batis pamatid uhaw
Sa tamang landas ako'y babanaagan
Kay tapat Nya sa akin (REFRAIN)

2. Dilim at panganib Siya ang papawi

Ang hain nya nga ang sagana ng buhay
Tahanan ko'y Kanyang pag-ibig (REFRAIN)

3. Dalangin ko lamang o Panginoon

Ay pagkabagabag ng kalooban
Kung piliin ko man maligaw ang pag-ibig
Tawagin mo at akayin pauwi. (REFRAIN)
Second Reading (Ezek 34:11-12,15-16,23-24,30-31)
Reader: A reading from the letter of St. Paul to the Philippians

Rejoice in the Lord always.

I shall say it again: rejoice!
Your kindness should be known to all. The Lord is near.
Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition,
with thanksgiving, make your requests known to God.
Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding
will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is honorable,

whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely,
whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence
and if there is anything worthy of praise,
think about these things.

Keep on doing what you have learned and received

and heard and seen in me.
Then the God of peace will be with you.

The Word of the Lord.

All: Thanks be to God.

Commentator: Let us all stand to honor the Holy Gospel

Gospel Acclamation

Gospel Reading
Priest: The Lord be with you.
All: And with your spirit.
Priest: A reading from the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew
All: Glory to you, O Lord. (With your thumb, make a small cross on your forehead,
lips, and chest)
Priest:

At that time the disciples approached Jesus and said,

"Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?"
He called a child over, placed it in their midst, and said,
"Amen, I say to you,
unless you turn and become like children,
you will not enter the kingdom of heaven.

Whoever humbles himself like this child

is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
And whoever receives one child
such as this, in my name, receives me.
"Whoever causes one of these little ones
who believe in me to sin,
it would be better for him to have a great millstone
hung around his neck and to be drowned
in the depths of the sea.

"See that you do not despise one of these little ones,

for I say to you that their angels in heaven
always look upon the face of my heavenly Father.”

The Gospel of the Lord.

All: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

God the Father, who is always ready to listen to the petitions of his children, and in
every petition, we shall say:
Lord, hear our prayer.
1. (Salesian) For the Pope, bishops, priests and deacons: that they may proclaim the gospel of
truth and joy by the generous testimony of their vocation. Let us pray to the Lord…
2. (Parent) For all parents: as God has entrusted to our care, first and foremost, the young, may
we be the first role models of charity and love to them, our kids, that in our ordinary daily lives
they me see in us the witnessing of Christ’s sacrifice in our respective families. Let us pray to
the Lord…
3. (Teacher)For all educators: as a major influencer of the young, may the teachings and
formation we have be mirrored and make an impact in the eyes of each of the child under our
care. As Salesian educators may we actually ‘walk our talk’ that in every person we encounter
we convey the message of “Serving the Lord with Holy Joy!”Let us pray to the Lord…
4. (Student)For all students: may we see and realize all the efforts exerted by our parents and
teachers in giving us the education we need to equip us in life; that as Bosconians we take part in
the #Make An Impact thru the people, both young and old, we encounter each day. Let us pray
to the Lord…
5. (Student)For the young people: may we strive to be the best versions of ourselves in all aspect
and that the Time, Talent and Treasures we have and developed be shared and used for the
betterment of the society we live in. We pray.Let us pray to the Lord…
6. (Non Teaching)For the Educative Pastoral Community of Don Bosco Tarlac: that this
celebration may bring an impact not only for today but also and more importantly throughout
our lifetime, striving to be the Don Bosco of today and affecting the young for generations to
come. Let us pray to the Lord…
7. (ASC)For the Salesian Family: may we take whole-heartedly the mission we accepted to be
part of. That as we do and give our little share in our apostolate and promoting devotion we find
consolation in the hope of salvation. Let us pray to the Lord…

Priest: Father, you sent your Son among us as a missionary to reveal your wonderful plan of

communion with our brothers and sisters throughout the world. Through Jesus Christ, our
Lord.

All: Amen.
