1: INTRODUCTION
The Advent Model 200 was born out of the need for a semi-automatic
labeling machine that was simple to learn, operate, adjust and maintain.
The Advent 200 offers solid frame design, quick changeover, little glue
mess, and unrivaled speed and simplicity.

You will find that the Model 200 is easy to learn and to operate, the
controls and adjustments are simple to understand. The entire machine
was designed to be maintained and operated by one operator.

The information set forth in this manual is important for maintaining

proper operating efficiency and maximum safety of the operator.

When operating any mechanical device including the Advent 200, safety of
the operator should always be of major importance. This and other
important information will be dealt with in further detail later in this
manual. It is extremely important that you read and understand this
manual completely before attempting to operate this machine.

3: ADJUSTMENTS
1. Place the containers between (D) Rear Tires and (E) Front Collars.
Adjust the distance between these two rollers so that about 1/4 of
the container is below the tops of these rollers. See Figure 2.
2. Loosen the (C) Label Guides and place one label between (A) Label
Feed Plate and (B) Label Feed Tires. Loosen the set screw that holds
(A) Label Feed Plate in position and adjust plate so that only one
label is allowed to pass between them at a time. See Figure 3. Now
place
1/4 inch (6.5cm) stack of label between (C) Label Guides while
fanning them out so tat the top labels feeds off the stack first. Up
to a maximum of an one inch stack of labels can be placed in the
label magazine at one time.
3. Position the label using the (C) Label Guides so that they are up
against the sides of the labels while centering them on the (B) Label
Feed Tires. Make sure that the labels slide easily between the label
guides and are not too tight.
4. Position the container to where you want the label to be applied and
place the (H) Container Guides up against the top and bottom of
the container to hold the container loosely between them.
5. If the labeling surface is recessed, the (E) Front collars and (D) Rear
Tires must be moved to a position that will allow the labeling
surface to lie flat on these rollers. If this is not done, the label can
never be applied straight. See Figure 3 on next page.
6. The label length timer adjusts the length of time that the label feed
roller turns. The longer the label, the higher the setting on the label
feed timer. For most labels a setting between 4 and 5 will be perfect.
If the label feed timer is set too high, more than one label may be
fed at a time.

6: GLUE ADJUSTMENT

1. Loosen locking screw on left.

2. Turn disc count clockwise for less glue, use large Allen screw for le-
verage and reference point.

3. Turn disc clockwise for more glue.

4. Adjustment can only be made when glue is thoroughly melted, which

is usually one hour from turning heater on.

7: GLUE POT REMOVAL
It is recommended that the hot melt glue
be replaced every 6 months or when glue
becomes charred whichever comes first.

1. Glue in machine must be

thoroughly melted, usually one
hour from turning on heater.

2. Remove top glue pot covers.

3. Lift up on handle in front of

machine. A leg will drop down to
support machine.

4. Turn machine ON and OFF a few

times to remove glue from glue
rollers so it won’t drip on the
heater plate.

5. Attach included handles to front of

glue pot. The two handles screw
into the glue pot.

6. Have a container, such as a

corrugated box with its flaps taped
up so the glue won’t leak out onto
the floor. Dump the old glue into it.
Scrape out the remaining glue with
a piece of cardboard.

7. Replace glue pot and fill it with glue.

Glue level should be kept around
3/4” from top of glue cover.

8. Push back support leg and return

front of machine to normal
operating position.

Advent 200 Manual Page 8

8: START-UP
1. Place all switches in the “OFF” position. The red light below the
switch will be lit when switch is in the “ON” position.

2. Plug the electrical cord into a grounded electrical outlet that has 120
volt, 60 Hz. single phase and at least 10 amp. service.

3. The glue thermostat is set at the factory to 325F. This is the optimum
temperature for most hot melt adhesives. However, if a temperature
adjustment is necessary, remove the machine cover and locate the
thermostat at the back of the machine.

4. Turn the heater switch at the front of the machine to “ON”. The ma-
chine will NOT be ready to operate for a least 1 hour until the glue
thoroughly melts.

5. After the machine has been heating the glue for at least one hour,
the “START” switch may be turned “ON”. The rollers should start to
rotate slowly at first then increase in speed. If the rollers do not
turn at all and the motor is running, turn the machine off immedi-
ately and make sure the glue is completely melted. Be aware that
the Advent 200 has an ingenious clutch device that prevents dam-
age to the machine if the glue is not melted.

6. Once the rollers have come up to operating speed, the front metal
collars may accumulate a small amount of glue on them. If this
happens, stop the machine and apply solvent (CCC509) to remove
the accrued glue. Wipe clean with a rag.

7. Do not apply rags to the rollers while the machine is in operation.

They could get caught in the rollers and cause much damage. Always
stop the machine when cleaning the rollers. Now you are ready to
start labeling.

Advent 200 Manual Page 9

9: MAINTENANCE
1. Lubricate all bearing blocks with machine grade oil daily. There are
two oil holes on each side of the machine. Additionally, there are
two oil cups located below that should be topped with oil. (See pho-
tographs below) Cover must be removed to oil these lubrication
points.
2. Clean Finger Bar with solvent daily. Use a paper towel with CCC509
solvent to perform task.
3. Keep glue level 1/4” to 3/4” from top of glue pot.
4. Avoid the application of solvent directly to the plastic cover. The
cover has a protective coating, but this coating can be dissolved if
too much solvent is applied to it and not wiped clean.
5. Do not apply rags to the rollers when the machine is operating.
Rags can easily get caught in the rollers and cause serious damage.
6. Give the machine a general cleaning once a week. Apply a small
amount of CCC509 solvent to a paper towel or rag and clean all
parts that have a tacky or sticky feel.

10: TROUBLESHOOTING
1. Glue accumulates on roller.
a. Glue is not hot enough. Increase temperature.
b. Glue level is too low. Add glue.
c. Glue is charred/burnt. Change glue.

2. Double label feeding.

a. Label feed plate is too far from label feed tires.
b. Label length timer set too high. Default position is 4.
c. Glue or other material causing labels to stick together.
d. Ink on labels causing labels to stick together.
e. Label supply too low. Add more labels to label hopper.

3. Label not feeding.

a. Label feed plate too tight up against label feed tires.
b. Too few labels in label magazine.
c. Labels sticking together.
d. Label feed tires worn or dirty. Replace black foam tires or clean
with water then dry.

4. Label not straight on container.

a. Container guides too tight and are holding container off rollers.
b. Glue level too low.
c. Container not laying flat in metal collars.
d. Container has a tapered labeling surface.
e. Container guides too loose.

5. Little or no glue on leading edge of label.

a. Glue temperature is too hot. Reduce temperature to
recommended formula temperature.
b. Glue thickness too thin. Increase glue thickness.

6. Label lose (not tight) around container.

a. Container not close enought to the brass finger bar. Turn the
carriage assembly knob until the container is about a 1/4” inch
away from the finger bar. See top illustration on page 6.
b. Label feed tires are slipping. Clean with alcohol pad or water. If
labels are still slipping replace the the label tires with part#
25-001.

11: SAFETY
The importance of safety can be overstated. Even the simplest of
machinery can cause serious injury if not operated properly.

The following are important safety factors to keep in mind when

operating the Advent 200.

1. Never operate the machine with long hair, loose sleeves, neck tie or
similar clothing that may get caught and pulled into the rotating
rollers of the machine.

2. Never place fingers or other parts of the body in the hot melt glue
when it has been heated. Hot melt glue can cause severe burns.

3. Avoid touching the machine parts that are hot: Front Metal Collars,
Glue Pot Cover and the Lower Feed Table.

4. Always remove electrical power from the machine when the Plastic
Cover is removed for servicing.

5. Never attempt to move the machine by lifting it to transport it a

new location when the glue is hot. The glue could easily be spilt.

6. When moving the machine while on the included cart, keep the
Advent 200 level and move slowly. It is preferable to move the
labeler to a new location when the glue is cold.

12: PLASTIC COVER REMOVAL

1. Remove cradle adjustment knob. There are two fallen set
screws. Loosen set screws and remove knob. See Figure 1.
2. Grab front and back of plastic cover at the bottom. See
figure 2.
3. Pull up on rear of cover. See figure 2.
Fig. 1 4. Plastic cover is designed to flex.
5. Front part cover needs to be flexed outward to clear
switches on front panel.
6. Cover should be clear of machine.
7. To put cover back on, reverse above procedure with the
front part of the cover going on first and then the rear.

PRESSURE ARM ADJUSTMENT
1. Insert container or bottle into cradle.
2. Rest pressure arm on top of the container.
3. Loosen set screw so arm with rubber stop is moveable.
4. Tighten set screw so arm with rubber stop has a 1/4” space between
rubber stop tire and support arm.
5. When container or bottle is taken out of cradle the pressure arm should
drop about 1/4”. This ensures that pressure is applied to the container
when inserted into the cradle.

ADVENT 200
MAINTENANCE & OPERATION PROCEDURES

DAILY
1. When machine is turned on for operations ensure that the hotmelt glue is at
operating temperature, usually 90 minutes. If the Advent 200 struggles to turn or the
glue is transferring to the rear, stainless steel collars then the glue is not at
operating temperature.
2. After the machine has warmed-up, clean all rollers and label feed path of any glue or
residual stickiness. Advent solvent CCC509 or toluene should be used to remove any
adhesive. To clean rotating surfaces, saturate a shop rag or paper towel with solvent
and wipe down rotating surfaces. Do not spray or pour solvent directly onto labeler.
3. Oil the labeler if oil has not been added to the six oil points for a least one week.
4. Check glue level. Remove glue lid with wood knob. Make sure glue level is
approximately ½” from top of glue cover. If glue is low add glue a couple pillows at
a time. Make sure not to overfill glue pot. Glue pot has a baffle; so adding cold glue
does not affect operation of the labeler.
5. After the machine has been cleaned, the labeler is ready for operation. Load labels
making sure the labels are flagged per instruction manual. Adjust front black knob to
move front, white rollers to accommodate container’s diameter. Make sure the
container is not touching the brass finger bar and is bring supported by both the
front, white tires and the rear, stainless steel collars. Adjust container guides to
place label onto the container. Adjust the overhead pressure arm is being used.
6. With labels inserted in the machine, turn of the Advent 200 and feed a single label by
depressing the label activation switch. Quickly grab the label by hand and check the
glue pattern. Ensure that there is a complete pattern of strips on the label, with no
dropouts or incomplete strips. If using a skip glue plate make sure the leading edge
is approx. 2” long and the trailing edge is ½”. A full glue plate will have not have a
skip pattern. Check the thickness of the glue on the trailing edge only. The glue
should not be dark in color. The glue should be a pale yellow or close to being clear.
The thickness of the glue should be no more than the thickness of a tissue paper for
most applications.
7. If the glue thickness is set correct, then proceed with labeling.
8. Whenever a stack of labels is complete, check the glue level. Depending on the size
of your label glue may be used faster or slower. Try to get in the habit of checking
the glue on a set schedule based on your glue usage. For example you may determine
that a handful of glue pillows need to be added to the labeler every 500 cotnainers
or two stack of labels.
9. When done for the day, simply turn off the labeler.
POINTS TO REMEMBER
1. If the label is not applied correctly (crooked by more than ¼”), check the glue
pattern. Glue should be fairly thin and not dark in color.
2. Dark color glue usually means the glue is either cold or too thick. If the glue is at the
correct operating temperature, adjust glue thickness with the glue adjustment cam
located on the right side of the 200 underneath the cover.
3. If the label stalls and does not wrap around the container, make sure both the label
guides and container guides are not too tight. Also if the label is not reaching the
container make sure the front timer is set to a higher value. A stalling container also
might indicate that the container is too light and requires the use of the overhead
pressure arm.
4. If more than one label is being fed, decrease the value of the front timer.
5. If glue is oozing or squeezing out toward the trailing edge of the label, the glue is
too thick. Adjust thickness of glue or make sure the glue is at the correct operating
temperature. Thick glue might indicate cold glue. Most glues should be heated at
around 300ºF+.
6. If glue is accumulating on the rollers, then the glue is probably too thick and is
oozing through the edges of the label.
7. If labels are popping off the container (usually at the trailing edge), then the glue
level is probably too low. Check glue level, should be ½” from top of glue pot cover.
If glue level is correct then check temperature and thickness of glue.
8. If the container is wobbling make sure any high points on the container are being
cleared by both the rear, stainless steel collars and front, white tires. Ridges and
high points on containers should not be touching any of the supporting rollers.
9. If a container is out of true or is top-heavy, use the overhead pressure arm to steady
the container.
10. The less wobble a container has (or the truer its rotation) the more accurate the label
placement.
11. If the label is jammed or caught in the label feed path, always pull the label towards
the front of the machine. Never remove a partially glued label from the back of the
labeler.
12. Make sure the label feed path is free of glue.
13. Clean the label feed tires only with rubbing alcohol pads or water. Never solvent.
14. If labels are no longer being fed by the label tires (even after cleaning), replace the
tires with new tires. Label feed tires are part# 25-001.
LABEL FEED TIRE REPLACEMENT
ADVENT 200 SERIES
The Advent 200 and 205 have 3 to 5 label feed tires. These tires grab a single label and feed it
through the machine. The cellulose material will begin to lose friction over time as dust dirties the
tires. If wiping down the tires with water does not improve label feeding nor moving the pressure
finger closer to the center label feed tire, replacment of the tires will be necessary. Follow the steps
below to replace the label feed tires.

You will need the provided allen wrench tool to perform the replacement.

The replacment part number for the label feed tire is 25-001. It is recommened that 3 tires be kept on-
hand. As noted above, the label feed tire can be cleaned with a damp cloth. DO NOT USE CCC509
HOTMELT SOLVENT TO CLEAN THE TIRES.
