Firmware Update Recommendations

As of APRIL 2019, production of the FlexNet product line and components will begin shipping with FlexNet firmware, V12.1.39. This
change is to ensure the most current updates and enhancements are provided to new and existing systems.

Ideally, this update is intended for new system installations where final testing and verification has not yet been completed. For
existing systems, the following recommendations should be considered.

This update is intended for systems currently operating older V12.1.XX FlexNet series software.
This update is intended for systems currently operating with V12.1.9 software (or newer) since the software changes can be properly
assessed and appropriate retesting/verification can be completed in accordance to local governing standards and codes.
This update is not recommended for systems currently operating older FlexNet series software such as v10 and v11.

This update is intended to provide new features and enhancements only.

Existing systems operating older versions are not required to update to this version unless additional features are needed or
required. For component replacement or servicing of existing systems, components contain newer software should be downgraded
to match the existing system software. Access to older software versions is provided by contacting Mircom Technical Support.

Updating an existing V12.1.XX System Installation to V12.1.39.

Upon upgrading an existing system, the following procedures are recommended.
- The enhancements and changes are listed and explained throughout this document. Ensure that this document is carefully
reviewed in its entirety
- Plan the update and retesting according to all applicable national and local requirements
- Review the system configuration following the update to ensure no unintended changes or modifications have occurred.
- 10 Percent Functional Test. Changes to the system software may affect the entire fire alarm or signaling system. It is
possible that the updated software will work without any problems, but it is also possible that the updated software may
demonstrate some incompatibility or instability when interacting with existing systems. A 10 percent functional test of an
existing system with at least one device on each input and output circuit is intended as a means to verify that the update
software has not resulted in any unintended actions or adverse effects.
- Where applicable, test any and all system operations which may be affected following the system update

If you have any questions or concerns, please visit the Mircom Technical Support Forum or contact the Technical Support
Department directly.

Existing Database Update Procedure

Upon restoral of an existing database within The MGC Fire Detection and Mass Notification Configurator V12.1.39, the following
warning message may be issued.

In previous firmware versions the ‘NS’ Flag had two intended purposes, to prevent the resounding of signals following a subsequent
activation and to make the corresponding zone non-silenceable. To have both subsequent activation and silenceable outputs on
Supervisory and Monitor input zones the implementation of the SA flag (subsequent activation) was necessary.

The V12.1.39 Configuration software will automatically remove the NS Flag & assign the SA Flag to all applicable Monitor and
Supervisory Input zones upon restoral. Though this process is automatic, it is the installer and/or operator’s responsibility to
confirm the correct assignments following the update. For more information please refer to the ‘Signal Silence Operation’ &
Addendums included within this document.

Signal Silence Operation

Activation of the Signal Silence button when the Panel is in Alarm turns on the Signal Silence Indicator and deactivates any Silencable
NACs. Non-Silencable Circuits are unaffected. Signals will re-sound upon any subsequent Alarm. This button does not function during
any configured Signal Silence Inhibit Timer period. It also does not function if the NACs are active as the result of a Fire Drill.

The NS (Non-Silencable) Flag is intended as an inhibitor to the Signal Silence command in accordance to certain jurisdictions
whereby silencing of audible and/or visual notification appliance circuits during a water flow type alarm may not be permitted.

Where driven by the activation of an Input Zone with a defined ‘NS’ Flag, audible and/or visual notification circuits shall continue to
operate following the manual activation of the Signal Silence Switch. Only visual and audible notification circuits driven by Silencable
Input Zones (No NS Flag defined) shall be silenced.

It is advised that the NS Flag not be defined directly to the notification appliance circuit(s).

As a result of the changes to the operation of the NS (Non-Silencable) Flag following a FleXNet V12.1.39 update, the configuration
of the notification appliance circuits (NAC’S) must be programmed in accordance to the applicable signal silence operation
outlined below.

➢ Basic Signal Silence Operation

A Basic Signal Silence Operation is considered to be any system whereby activation of the Signal Silence switch following
receipt of an alarm is uninhibited.
Refer to page 12 for programing and configuration

➢ Modified Signal Silence Operation

A Modified Signal Silence Operation is considered to be any system whereby activation of the Signal Silence switch
following receipt of an alarm is partially inhibited whereas the Audible are inhibited and the Visual signal remain
uninhibited.
Refer to page 13 for programing and configuration

➢ Non-Silencable Water Flow Operation

A Non-Silencable Water Flow Operation is considered to be any system whereby activation of a water flow alarm shall
inhibit the signal silencing of Audible and/or Visual signals.
Refer to page 14 for programing and configuration

➢ Modified Non-Silencable Water Flow Operation

A Modified Non-Silencable Water Flow Operation is considered to be any system whereby activation of the Signal Silence
switch following receipt of a Non-Water Flow alarm is partially inhibited by which the Audible signals become inactive and
the Visual signals shall remain unimpeded the activation of a water flow alarm shall inhibit the signal silencing of Audible
and/or Visual signals.

Addendum A
S.A. Flag Implementation for Supervisory/Monitor Input Zones
Subsequent activation following or during an active Signal Silence status is only inherent to the Alarm Input Zone. For Applications
where a Supervisory or Monitor Input Zone(s) are used to drive audible and/or visual signaling devices, an ‘SA’ Flag must be defined
to support this operation.

Example,
The SA Flag implementation is intended to support applications whereby Smoke/CO detectors providing local alarms are used in lieu
of Smoke Alarms within dwelling units.

The SA Flag, when defined to a Supervisory or Monitor Input Zone, shall allow the zone to cancel an active Signal Silence status and
resound the notification appliance circuits. Therefore, it is advised that this flag be enabled on any Input Zone of Supervisory or
Monitor type which is used to drive activation of audible and/or visual signaling devices.

The ‘SA’ (Subsequent Activation) Flag is definable via the F5 column to Supervisory & Monitor Input Zones within the MGC Fire
Detection and Mass Notification Configurator v12.1.39, or later.

If upgrading an existing system to v12.1.39 or later, ensure the ‘SA’ (Subsequent Activation) Flag is set to any
Supervisory and/or Monitor zone(s) driving the activation of Audible/Visual Notification appliance circuits

Addendum C
Ground Fault Reporting

When the FleXNet System is subjected to a Ground Fault condition, a trouble shall be reported on the corresponding Node and/or
system. Following v12.1.39, the system will identify the Node and CPU location of the ground fault condition. The system will no
longer identify the polarity of the ground fault.

In previous Firmware releases, a Ground fault condition would report as:

LCD Display
Info

Positive Ground Fault active Negative Ground Fault active

NODE ID NODE ID

Where ‘NODE ID’ will display the numerical value assigned to that particular node

V12.1.39 or later shall now report a Ground fault condition as:

LCD Display
Info

Ground Fault active

NODE ID CPU: --

Where ‘NODE ID’ will display the numerical value assigned to that particular node and CPU module

The CPU is only identified for ground faults occurring on the ALCN-792MISO board SLCs.

Addendum E
Advanced Logic Editor - HOA Manual Switches

H.O.A. (Hand-Off-Auto) Manual Switches are definable within The Advanced Logic Editor and listed within the left-hand pane of the
Logic Editor Window under the abbreviation ‘HA’

HOA Switch ID within the Advanced Logic Editor:

ND-CPU-**-HA-ADR

Whereby:
ND – The physical address of the Node pertaining to the Fan-Damper Display Module
CPU – The address of the CPU responsible for driving the Fan-Damper Display module
ADR – Switch index number assigned a particular Fan-Damper switch.

The HOA Switch is to be defined within the Advanced Logic Editor by use of the System Define (Sys Def) terms “HOA_ON” and
“HOA_OFF”

Example 1
The logic equation is to be TRUE (Active) when HOA Switch #5 is manually set to the ‘ON’ position.

01-00-**-HA-005 EQU HOA_ON

Example 2
The logic equation is to be TRUE (Active) when HOA Switch #3 is manually set to the ‘ON’ or ‘OFF’ position.

(01-00-**-HA-003 EQU HOA_ON) OR (01-00-**-HA-003 EQU HOA_OFF)

Note: Defining HOA switches as ‘Normally Off’ or ‘Normally On’ will not impact the processing of the logic statement.

Advanced Logic Editor – Output Modules

Output modules are definable within The Advanced Logic Editor and listed within the left-hand pane of the Logic Editor Window
under the abbreviation ‘OU’.

Output Module ID within the Advanced Logic Editor:

ND-CPU-LP-OU-ADR

Whereby:
ND – The physical address of the Node pertaining to the Output Module
CPU – The designated address of the CPU responsible for driving the Output module
LP – The designated SLC number wired to the output module
ADR – The designated physical address assigned to the output module

The Output Module is to be defined within the Advanced Logic Editor by use of the Device Status Masks Active (:A), Bypass (:B), and
Fault (:F)

Example 1
The logic equation is to be TRUE (Active) when the output module ND-1 CPU-1 LP-2 ADR-M128 is active. (:A)

01-01-02-OU-M128:A

Example 2
The logic equation is to be TRUE (Active) when the output module ND-1 CPU-1 LP-2 ADR-M128 is faulted (i.e. Missing, Wiring Fault
etc.)

01-01-02-OU-M128:F

The Device Status Mask (:F) can be used to create an event when a device goes into a trouble state.
