PRÉSENTATION ET OBJECTIFS

To learn to communicate in English, both spoken and written.


To learn to read with greater ease in English.
To work towards successful integration into the main English class during his/her primary education. A child will join
the main class full-time following an assessment when both the ESL teacher and the main class teacher agree that
he/she is capable of following the complete curriculum in English.

ET OBJECTIFS DE FORMATION ET DE CERTIFICATION

There are no formal exams at this level; however children are assessed regularly in the ESL class. The children are
working at Level A1+ of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference). Main class children are working at
C1/C2 level.

CONTENU DU PROGRAMME

To recognize and be able to use verbally, aurally and in written form vocabulary in the following themes:

Grammar: At CP level grammar is implicit, not explicit. Children identify patterns in language, recognize
contexts and try to reproduce the patterns appropriately in the correct context

Determiners: articles, cardinal numbers, ordinal numbers,


Verb Tenses: present simple, present continuous, simple
possessives, distributives
past (regular and irregular), interrogative, negative forms

Question words – in present, present continuous, simple Adverbs: adverbs of frequency

Used to ‘Can’ for ability and permission

Adjectives – comparatives, superlatives, intensifiers; Spelling – spelling follows that of the main class, focusing
possessives on Phase 2, 3 and 5 phonics and high frequency words.

Independent reading: the children follow the Oxford Reading Tree at their own individual level.

American and English Rhymes, Poems, Songs and Games

Adult-led reading: variety of American and English books and poems both in the main class and available for the
children to borrow and share at home with an English-speaking adult.

This program could be rearranged to suit the rate of learning and language acquisition of the children. The main teacher
and the ESL teacher collaborate closely to enable the children to integrate into the main class successfully.

Book, flashcards and CD, online support. Visual Aids: photos, maps, picture books etc. Multi-media resources: music
CDs, internet, suitable computer programs etc.
