romance novels
Norman Public Library
Central continues its pre-
Valentine’s Day tradition by
presenting its program “Men
Reading Romance Novels” at
7 p.m. Monday in the library’s
Oklahoma Room.
Multiple male librarians from
the Pioneer Library System will
read tales of love and passion
from a selection of romance
novels available as part of the
library system’s collection.
Selections may contain ma-
ture content and are intended
for an adult audience, so the
program is for ages 18 and up.
Registration is not required
to attend.

Norman Newcomers will
meet at 10 a.m. Monday at

Norman.
Norman Newcomers meet
the second Monday Septem-
ber through May. You do not
have to be new to Norman to
join and the annual fee is $30.
NAMI offers local
support groups
Family members of those
living with mental illness are
invited to attend a monthly
support group hosted by NAMI
Cleveland County in Norman.
Meetings are from 6:30 to
8 p.m. on the third Thursday of
every month at 1104 Riviera
Drive, Norman. For more infor-

Hoffman to receive
Arts Luminary Award
Art historian, professor and
curator, Sheila Hoffman, Ph.D.,
will receive the Arts Luminary
Award at the annual Arts!
Arts! Arts! Gala hosted by the
Weitzenhoffer Family College
of Fine Arts at the University
of Oklahoma. The gala event
is scheduled for March 1 in
the Oklahoma Memorial Union,
900 Asp Ave., on the OU Nor-
man campus.
Hoffman is a distinguished
graduate of the OU School
of Visual Arts and a 16-year
veteran curator and director of
fine art museums in Oklahoma,
Michigan and New York. Hoff-
man draws on a breadth of
curatorial and administrative
experience to apply to her
thinking about the future of
museums and material object
documentation.
A native of New Mexico,
Hoffman has lived in five coun-
tries and wandered through
many dozens of others as an
art historian, museologist and
iconologist.

Hoffman began her career
at the Oklahoma City Museum
of Art where she worked as
the curator of exhibitions while
earning her Master of Arts in
history of art from the Univer-
sity of Oklahoma. She went on
to work as curator and director
at museums in Michigan and
New York and pursued two
doctoral degrees simultane-
ously in art history from the
Sorbonne and in museology,
heritage and cultural mediation
from the Université du Québec
à Montréal. Her doctoral work,
written and defended in French,
examined how cutting-edge
digital technologies capture,
preserve and disseminate
world heritage.
Hoffman currently serves
as a lecturer on the art his-
tory faculty of the University of
Massachusetts-Lowell and as a
lecturer in the Tufts University
graduate program in museum
studies. She is the review edi-
tor for the international journal
Museum Worlds and is involved
with the International Council
of Museums Committee on
Museology.
