MINISTRY FOR THE SICK AND HOMEBOUND
We are grateful to those who give of
their time and care to bring Holy
Communion to our parishioners who
cannot make it to church due to
sickness or infirmity. If you know of
anyone who would like to receive communion in their
home or while hospitalized at West Lincoln Hospital,
please contact the parish office.
PRAYER SHAWL MINISTRY
The Prayer Shawl Ministry
continues to create handcrafted
shawls for parishioners, their
families and friends who are
coping with illness, loneliness,
pain or trouble. They are available to anyone who
needs one. Please call the office to request a shawl or
lap blanket or if you would like to join this ministry.
FLU SEASON
As a cautionary measure to alleviate
concerns, during the flu season, you
are requested not to shake hands
during Sign of Peace. You are also
asked to refrain from shaking
hands with the celebrant as you
leave the church. We hope that
these measures will help to keep all
of us healthy.

To raise a child is an
experience of both incredible
joy and devastating
heartbreak. Every parent’s life
is “pieced” with turmoil,
disappointment, illness, desperation, and fear.
Certainly every mom and dad knows what Mary and
Joseph went through. Within our families, our sons
and daughters embrace and are embraced by the love
we have known and seek to know better, to be grasped
by the hand of God who has grasped us by the hand.
The prophet Simeon proclaims that this Child will be
a “light” for Israel — but that light will endure great
suffering and pain before finally shattering the
darkness. Luke’s Gospel of the Child Jesus reminds us
that the crib is overshadowed by the cross, that this holy
birth is the beginning of humankind’s rebirth in the
Resurrection.
In baptism, we incorporate our children into the life of
the Risen Christ; within our home, we try to guide them
in learning the Gospel values of compassion, love,
forgiveness, justice and peace that we have embraced.
Our celebration of Jesus’ Presentation in the Temple
calls us to recommit ourselves to giving our sons and
daughters the best that we have -- our faith in the God
who loves us -- so that they may grow “and become
strong, be filled with wisdom; and the favor of God
upon them.”
Anna and Simeon live among us today in our own
families and communities and "temples." They inspire
gratitude and teach compassion by the lessons of their
long lives. In the wisdom that comes with age, in the
love and care they extend to us in their grace and joy, in
their faith that has been made strong and unshakable
through a lifetime of struggle, the Anna’s and Simeon’s
of our time and place are rays of God’s light shining
through all of our lives, illuminating the way to God's
eternal dwelling place.

We are currently accepting
pierogi orders this weekend for
the next pierogi batch. Blue
order envelopes are available
on the round table or at the
office. Complete the
envelope with payment and
either drop in the Sunday collection basket or bring
to the office by February 5th. Pick up will be
February 21st between 2-4 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
at the bar counter in the hall. If you are interested in
helping with the pierogi assembly, please call Helen at

PARISH BREAKFAST - JAN. 19TH
A note of thanks to all who joined us for the parish
breakfast on January 19th. With 121 people in
attendance (almost half were walk-ins!), $702.30 was
raised towards the mortgage debt. A special thanks to
the organizers, kitchen crew and serving team! Next
breakfast event coming in March!
WORLD DAY FOR CONSECRATED LIFE - FEB 2
The purpose of the day is “to help the entire Church to
esteem ever more greatly the witness of those persons
who have chosen to follow Christ by means of the
practice of the evangelical counsels” as well as “to be a
suitable occasion for consecrated persons to renew their
commitment and rekindle the fervour which should
inspire their offering of themselves to the Lord” (St.
John Paul II, 1997).

WORLD DAY OF PRAYER
This year, St. Helen’s will be hosting the World Day of
Prayer service on March 6th at 2:00 p.m. All are
invited to attend. The Annual World Day of Prayer
originated in 1892 and now over 170 countries
participate. It is led by Christian women of all
denominations who welcome you to pursue justice,
peace and reconciliation by standing together in prayer
and action. This year’s theme: “Rise! Take Your Mat
and Walk” focuses on the women of Zimbabwe.
Come join us in prayer and fellowship uniting our hope,
faith, justice, solidarity and respect. Refreshments to
follow.
