Chapter 3: the intersubjectivity experience

This chapter Ushers the lessons on intersubjectivity,With a few of establishing the fact that human
person’s primordially ordained to exist with others.

Lesson five :human existence of intersubjectivity

Intersubjectivity of human beings intersubjectivity presupposes human beings connectivity with other
human beings.

It means that we share the same situation where in we can create a shared meanings. This means
become basis for our collective actions and beliefs this means become basis for our collective actions
and beliefs.Nonetheless, this shared meanings do not eliminate our own individuality.

1. Human being is a social being.

A human being creates his/ her world to establish relationship with other created thing. He /she has to
establish a relationship with the environment for him /her to survive as part of it.

Open communication or vocative situation or dialogue among human beings is an encounter of unique
person in a concrete context or situation in the community. This encounter is mediated by their shared
context and situation which they themselves have created. Those who share such communication have
the power to name their world (Freire 1970, 76) and experiences as a result of communicative encounter
among human beings.

A social beings, communication among humans is a necessity. It does not only transform the social
context but also their perspective on existence and its meaning. The existence of each person is
irreplaceable. one cannot replace the existence of the other for it is unique for each person.

2. Human being is born and create himself /herself in social interaction

The existence of human being is the consequences of social interaction particularly between the two
unique individual. They together strengthen this interaction to constant communication.

The social interaction among the members of the family can be concretely experience in the Filipino
family in the spirit of “sakop”.
Filipino philosophy believes that “sakop” reveals the mechanisms of Filipino family in establishing wider
family relations which result the extended family ties. This system becomes a medium our means of
determining the Seminal character of every member of the family.

Lesson 6: The dimensions of non-relational self

Life of communion is A folk at if the situation were possible self of human being is actualized and
experienced. However, Rupture of this life happens when one decides to shun from the world or conceal
himself/ herself and hes/ her own world. They expressions of these situations can be seen through
various forms such as isolation ,pretention, Manipulation, and selfishness.

A. the self in isolation

Human being lives in isolation when he/she does not recognize the existence of other human beings.
He/she Lives in the community but he she does not establish relational interactions with others.

Another form of isolation of self is when human being consciously leaves the communicative situation.
Consequently,human being cannot unveil

and discover himself herself.

This is a rupture of the possibility of life of communion human being who is not in communion with the
other tries to grasp he’s her life alone. this is a rupture of the possibility of life of communion human
being who is not in communion with the other tries to grasp his her life alone.

B. The self in the realm of pretentions

Deception is a hindrance towards the establishment of communicative situation or dialogue between or

among human beings. It emerges and distorts a possible communication when a human being projects
his/her false image of his/her self to other human beings. Buber observes that human being pretends to
be another person to be accepted by others. He/she pretends to be someone other than himself/herself
wich he/she is not.

C. The self in the realm of manipulation

Manipulation between or among persons occurs when one says to the other “I created your world and
you must only think ,feel ,and act within its boundary. Your world of you and your understanding about
the world are according to the world that I have created for you. You act according to the image that I
set. As you do it, I find satisfaction and security.” Intersubjectivity is possible to unfold in this kind of
relationship (Karl jaspers 1956, 84). Those who are involved and never live in truth. open communication
and Vocative situation can never be established.

in this situation a human being sees the other person as a mere “thing or it” he/she does not recognize
the very being of the other. He/she controls the other as an object. He she relates with the other for
personal gain and development. This would result in a manipulative relationship. The freedom to express
and unveil ones uniqueness and the truth of oneself are not manifested and shared.

D. The self in the realm of selfishness

Self centeredness is another factor that hinders the establishment of communicative manifestation or
vocative situation or dialogue between or among human beings. If it pervades in any relationship, A
human being who is in this relationship cannot naturally grow and find his her selfhood. The “I” does not
recognize the existence of the other person as a “subject” but as a means to attain personal
satisfaction.the “I” Sees only it’s self as the basis of the truth and of social existence. The other person is
left as an object and stripped of his /her presence(Buber 2000, 12)

Chapter 4:

A life of dialogue

Human beings quest for the self realization of his/her being is an expression of his /her inherent
rationality. but this is not possible if he she remains an isolated individual and has no relation with other
human beings. It is in and through communicative manifestation or vocative situation or intersubjectivity
that self being realizes his/her selfhood,Find and expresses Freedom, and the truth.

Lesson 7: The human being as being- in -dialogue

A. Self-consciousness and dialogue

One important and inherent aspect of human person as thinking and acting being is self
consciousness.Self-consciousness begins with the consciousness of Another’s dialogue. The existence of
one’s consciousness depends on the existence of other persons consciousness.

B. Selfhood and dialogue

Human beings selfhood is its individuality,self-being,self-realization and well-being. The selfhood Of

human being remains ambiguous in isolation. It does not show it’s self when one decides to break
himself from communicative manifestation of his/her being.Cell food only emerges itself in and through
Dialogical situation. Karl jaspers affirms that, dialogue fosters individuality, self identity, and self being of
each person in the dialogical situation. every experience or event that unfolds into dialogical situation
becomes a tangible expression of self. In such context, A human being experiences his/her selfhood
being unfolded and revealed. The responsibility of each in the dialogical situation is to recognize and
except each one’s selfhood.

C. Freedom and dialogue: unfolding of the self

Freedom is human aspect that he /she becomes conscious of himself/ herself. However, freedom affix
something on the human being if it is expressed in a Dialogical context. The true expression of freedom
occurs when it is expressed both for one’s self being bad for the others self being. For Karl jaspers and
Gabriel Marcel, this kind of freedom is never passive. It summons human being to action; but thisAction
presupposes relationship.Human freedom can only find its true meaning in relation to the freedom of
another human being.

D. truth and Dialogue: Making present

Truth is never revealed in seclusion or isolation. truth about one’s self being is always relational;and it is
unveiled through do you logical situation or communicative manifestation. It is experience and shared as
human being engages himself /herself in and intersubjective our inter-human or dialogical encounter.
According to Buber and Jaspers, it is in this encounter that the truth of ones well being can possibly
emerge. The manifestation of truth is unfolded in the communication among human beings, for truth is
constantly aligned with being.

Lesson 8 : Genuine Dialogue

Human beings have been longing to enter into a dialogue or communicative manifestation. It is not only
for survival but more importantly, for establishing meaningful existence. But this dialogue must be
genuine. Human existence in the society, and media relations are being established, but they are not
genuine. Some of those who are involved in this societal relations tend to manipulate people who
cannot fully express themselves. Dialogue must be generated for human being to experience meaningful
existence in existence.
