Employee Codes of Ethics

Introduction

Codes of ethics guide employees to conduct business and to behave according to the

culture of the organization. In Mount Sinai, the code of ethical conduct accountability aims to

help employees behave in an ethical manner in which they should be accountable for their

actions. The code allows employees to act morally and follow their obligation to the clients and

the organization. It indicates the duties and responsibilities of workers to consumers. As a result,

it is a way of guiding employees’ behaviors and a way of achieving the objective of the

organization. The code of ethical conduct accountability in Mount Sinai unites employees at the

organization and helps in attaining the mission, vision and values of the organization.

Employee Codes of Ethics

Mount Sinai's employee code of ethics focuses on creating and maintaining a culture of

integrity. The code of ethical conduct accountability requires all persons working at the facility

to apply and understand the principles and terms of ethical conduct. The behaviors and

communication should be consistent with the hospital's code of ethics in which employees

should be accountable for their mistakes, and they should avoid discussing workplace concerns,

conflicts, and conduct in front of other people (Mount Sinai Hospital, nd). Moreover, they are

required to report any inappropriate behaviors as per the organization policy. The leaders are

expected to lead by example and uphold all the principles of healthcare ethical conduct. All

individuals should adhere to the mission, vision, and values of the hospital (Pozgar, 2019).

Mount Sinai's mission statement focuses o delivering and discovering the best patient care,

education, and research. The vision involves providing and recognizing the best medicine. On
the other hand, the values focus on serving the patients effectively and distinguishing the facility

as a model healthcare centre. The code of ethical conduct accountability at Mount Sinai is an

excellent example of employee codes of ethics, and it allows workers to act morally when

serving patients.

I choose the code of ethical conduct accountability because it shows how employees

should conduct themselves when working at the organization. It shows how the employees of

Mount Sinai are united. The code provides a set of expectations for both employees and leaders,

and as a result, it creates a specific culture of behaviors (Laaser et al., 2017). The code of ethical

conduct accountability appeals to me because it ensures that employees respect one another as

well as the patients and other people. It requires people to be accountable for their mistakes and

to respect the values, mission, and vision of the hospital. As a result, it improves health outcomes

in which healthcare providers work to improve patient safety (Pozgar, 2019). Moreover, it

provides reporting options where the people who fail to comply with the codes are reported to

the relevant authorities. Hence, the code of ethical conduct accountability promotes cooperation

and collaboration. They also promote human rights, welfare, and compliance with the law and

regulations.

The code of ethical conduct accountability cover the topics of morality, principles of

ethics, virtual ethics and values, values, mission, and vision. It works information by clarifying

the roles and responsibilities of employees. It also guides healthcare professionals where they

can use the codes to address any ethical question or dilemma (Ozkan, 2016). The providers can

make valuable choices with the help of the laws. Additionally, they ensure that employees are

committed to stakeholders who include patients, colleagues, the public, and other health

recipients and providers. Mount Sinai codes of ethics document failed to cover the issue of
ethical dilemmas well. It is a challenging issue in the healthcare profession, and I feel that it

should be included in the codes of ethics to give employees guidance on how to behave when

faced with such an issue.

The staff can be educated on a new code of ethics through the use of various channels of

communication. The leaders can create a group for all employees where the information can be

provided. It is essential to provide them with copies of the codes and then talk face-to-face with

individual employees. Additionally, the leaders should hold a meeting where the new laws can

be discussed. The employees should be allowed to air their views and comment on the new

codes.

Conclusion

Accountability is an essential element in ethics, and it ensures that employees act

morally. It governs decision making and behaviors of workers in an organization. In Mount Sinai

Hospital, the code of ethical conduct accountability outlines how employees should conduct

themselves. It provides specific guidelines for handling issues. However, I feel that the code

should discuss ethical dilemmas more in the instructions because it is a challenging issue in

healthcare. The hospital can educate its staff on new laws through various channels of

communication.
