PRINTING INSTRUCTIONS
There are a lot of pages to help you with your sewing; however, you may not wish or need to print
out all of the pages of instructions.
At the end of this document, after your pattern pieces, you will find 3 pages of text only instructions
plus 2 pages of cutting instructions for you to print. You can then refer back to the electronic version
with photos, if you need to! I suggest you print out just page 4 first, to test your printer for scale
Then print pages 18-21, which are pattern pieces and pages 22-24 which are your text only
instructions.

The pattern comes ready to print out on standard A4 paper or you can also print on letter or foolscap
simply by checking the "Disable shrink to fit" or similar in your printer’s settings.

Please note that due to some variations among printers, occasionally it occurs that the printer may
not print the pattern true to scale. This may affect the final quality of your finished pouch, if the
variation is more than minor. To help avoid this, please print out the test rules on the next page to see
how your individual printer is printing.

Please ensure you check your printer’s setup or print handling prior to printing, to ensure that any
available settings for “Printing to scale” or “No Scale” or “Print Scaling: None” are checked.

You may see “Properties Print to scale: 100%”. Check this.

You may also see a setting “Choose paper source by PDF page size”. Try checking this!

I hope this helps to ensure your pattern prints correctly and that you have trouble free assembly! If
you are still having difficulty printing to scale, please contact me so that a solution can be found! 
Enjoy your pattern! I would love to see a photo of your finished creation!
Cheers and happy sewing,
Christine

other interesting doohickeys!

HOW TO MAKE YOUR POUCH: PREPARATION

Before you begin, grab a cuppa and read through all of the instructions to get the bigger picture and
then follow them in order. Don’t worry, the instructions may seem a little long, but it is because they
are very detailed. The steps, however, are not complicated and there are plenty of photos to help
you!

1. CUTTING OUT
Cut the fabric, interfacing and fleece pieces as instructed.

If using the pattern pieces, they are cut on the fold, so you will need to take care to fold the fabric
(and interfacing) first before cutting. If using the cutting measurements, the measurements given
are the final measurements of the cut piece.

Items in Patterned Fabric:

 Cut 1 – Front (on the fold) W 30cm x H 10.9cm (W 11 7/8” X H 4 1/4”)

 Cut 4 – Zipper Tabs W 3.6cm X H 2.5cm (W 1 3/8” X 1”)

Items in Plain Fabric:

 Cut 1 – Front (on the fold) W 30cm x H 10.9cm (W 11 7/8” X H 4 1/4”)

 Cut 1 – Back (on the fold) W 30cm X H 20.4cm (W11 7/8” X H 8”)
 Cut 4 – Zipper Tabs W 3.6cm X H 2.5cm (W 1 3/8” X 1”)
 Cut 2 – Lining (on the fold) W 30cm X H 18.8cm (W 11 7/8” X 7 3/8”)

Items in Fusible Interfacing:

 Cut 2 – Front (on the fold) W 30cm x H 10.9cm (W 11 7/8” X H 4 1/4”)

 Cut 1 – Back (on the fold) W 30cm X H 20.4cm (W11 7/8” X H 8”)
 Cut 2 – Lining (on the fold) W 30cm X H 18.8cm (W 11 7/8” X 7 3/8”)

Items in Fusible Fleece:

 Cut 2 – Front Fleece (on the fold) W 28cm X H 8.9cm (W 11” X H 3 ½”)
 Cut 1 – Back Fleece (on the fold) W 28cm X H 18cm (W 11” X 7”)

TIP: Pin your paper pattern pieces to your cut fabric pieces as you go so you know which is which
or if using cutting measurements, pin a scrap of paper to each piece stating what it is!

2. ATTACH INTERFACING & FLEECE

Fuse interfacing into place where instructed below. Centre and fuse fleece as instructed
below.
Apply the fusible interfacing and fleece onto the wrong side of the pieces as follows:
* Front pieces plus fleece
* Back piece plus fleece
* Body Lining pieces

3. SEWING INSTRUCTIONS

Unless otherwise stated, use a 10mm (⅜”) seam allowance. Carefully transfer any markings onto the
wrong sides of the fabric pieces where indicated. TIP: If using a fading marker, you may prefer to
transfer the markings as you go!

4. MAKE DARTS

a) To form darts, fold the “V” shape in half, right sides together. Pin.

b) Stitch along the stitching line and press darts towards the top.

5) PREPARE ZIPPERS
a) Retrieve your 28cm (11”) or longer dress zipper and measure, mark and trim the
metal bits of each end, leaving a zipper that is 26.7cm (10 1/2”) long. Make sure the
zipper pull is within your 26.7cm (10 1/2”) piece and not trimmed off!
b) Using your sewing machine, run a few stitches back and forth, 6mm (1/4”) from each
end, to stop the zipper from coming apart.

26.7cm (10 1/2”) long.

c) Retrieve a Zipper Tab and place it lengthwise on top of the zipper, right side down,
aligned against the inside of the line you just stitched. Pin. Stitch using a 6mm (¼”)
seam. TIP: For the zipper that will be attached to your patterned fabric, make sure
you choose the correct matching tab!

d) Flip your zipper over and repeat on the other side.

e) Repeat for the other end of the zipper.
f) Fold the tab fabric over the ends of the zipper from both sides and finger press.
Topstitch close to the seam.

The Gemini Pouch © 2015 ChrisW Designs – All Rights Reserved.

9

g) Flip the tabs out of the way and trim back the zipper but do not cut into the first line
of stitching that you made to baste the ends of the zipper together.

h) Baste the raw ends of the tabs together or pop a piece of double sided tape between
the tabs.
i) Retrieve your Front pieces. Place them right side up on your table and apply a strip
of double sided tape along the top edge of both pieces. (Or you can use pins in the
next steps if you prefer!)

The Gemini Pouch © 2015 ChrisW Designs – All Rights Reserved.

10

j) Align your zipper assembly right side down along the top edge with the zipper pull
on the left. TIP: If you want both of your zippers to open from the same side on the
finished pouch, place one assembly with the zipper opening from the right! Open
each zip approximately 5cm (2”). Center zipper assembly so that raw edges are even.

k) Apply another strip on double sided tape along the top edge of your zipper
assembly.

The Gemini Pouch © 2015 ChrisW Designs – All Rights Reserved.

11

l) Retrieve your Lining piece and align its top edges, right side down, on top of your
pocket assembly.

m) Stitch, using your zipper foot and a 6mm (1/4”) seam. TIP: When you approach your
zipper pull, stop with your needle down in the fabric, raise your presser foot and
slide the zipper pull past your needle. Lower your presser foot and continue sewing.

n) Press both pieces of fabric away from your zipper.

The Gemini Pouch © 2015 ChrisW Designs – All Rights Reserved.

12

o) Topstitch close to pressed edge.

p) Apply double sided tape to the wrong side of each zipper assembly, on the top sides.

WRONG SIDE!

q) Flip the bottom edge of your lining up, right sides together and align the raw fabric
edge with the edge of your zipper tape.

The Gemini Pouch © 2015 ChrisW Designs – All Rights Reserved.

13

r) Place your two zipper top edges right sides together and PIN or CLIP. TIP: Don’t use
double sided tape here as you will need to press this seam open.

s) Stitch using a zipper foot and a 6mm (1/4”) seam.

t) Press seams apart and press your pockets flat.

14

u) Topstitch very close to the edge of the seam on each zipper.

The Gemini Pouch © 2015 ChrisW Designs – All Rights Reserved.

15

6) ASSEMBLE POUCH
a) Baste the side raw edges of your front pockets assembly together using a 3mm
(1/8”) seam.

b) Place your front assembly right sides together with the Back piece. Pin the two short
sides together and stitch. TIP: You may need to ease slightly to fit. At first glance it
may appear that your back piece is too narrow; however, it just looks that way
because the darts cause the long sides of the front assembly to curve outwards!

The Gemini Pouch © 2015 ChrisW Designs – All Rights Reserved.

16

c) Pin the long edges and stitch one side in its entirety. Leave a 12.7cm (5”) gap in the
second edge for turning.

12.7cm (5”) gap

d) Clip corners and grade seams on the short sides. TIP: Grading seams simply means you
cut each of the layers in the seam allowance a different width so that when the whole of
the seam is pressed into place it doesn’t create a bulky ridge on the right side of the
fabric.

The Gemini Pouch © 2015 ChrisW Designs – All Rights Reserved.

17

e) Run a strip of double sided tape on each side of the opening you left for turning, on the
wrong side, within the seam allowance.

f) Turn the seam allowance in and finger press firmly to hold in place.

g) Turn and give your pouch a good press. Pin the opening closed.
h) Topstitch using a 3mm (1/8”) seam all the way around your pouch, closing the
opening as you go. Congrats. You are done!
