Chapter 1

INTRODUCTION

What is work immersion? According to Mark Anthony Llego, Work

Immersion refers to the subject of the Senior High School Curriculum, which

involves hands-on experience or work simulation in which learners can apply

their competencies and acquired knowledge relevant to their track.

According to Department of Education Order No. 30 s. 2017, one of the goals

of the K to 12 Basic Education program is to develop in learners the

competencies, work ethics and values relevant to pursuing further education

and or joining the world of work. In order that the nations development target

will be realized and to achieve greater congruence with the basic education,

work immersion is a required subject that has been incorporated in the

curriculum.

Under Annex A of Work immersion Curriculum Guide, it was emphasized

that through work immersion, students are exposed to and become familiar

with work related environment related to their field of specialization to

enhance their competence. This is for the purpose that the students can relate

directly to their postsecondary goal. A study conducted by the People

Management Association of the Philippines (PMAP) in 2006, emphasized

the importance of an effective on-the-job training program. Achievement of

the OJT program objectives ensures the possibility of good performer

graduates. The opposite will most likely produce poor performer

graduates thus, promoting job-skill mismatch.

One of the goals of the K to 12 Basic Education Program is to develop in

learners the competencies, work ethic, and values relevant to pursuing further

education and/or joining the world of work. To achieve greater congruence

between basic education and the nation’s development targets, Work

Immersion, a required subject has been incorporated into the curriculum.

This subject will provide learners with opportunities to become familiar with

the work place for employment simulation and to apply their competencies

in areas of specialization applied subjects in authentic work environments.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

This study wants to broaden and describe the phenomenology of

g-12 Humss immersions.

Specifically answer to the following questions:

1. How immersion enhance student’s working skills?
