Technology-Infused Teaching Strategy for 2nd Graders

Topic : Numbers, Colours, Shapes, Seasons

Time : 4 Meetings @50 minutes

Media: Nursery rhyme videos, flashcards, textbooks, worksheets, television,

colour magnets, cutouts of seasons, the objects and activities

In the first meeting, introduce the topic about Numbers and Colours by displaying
a nursery rhyme video about colours to attract the students' attention. Encourage
students to sing together while emphasizing on the vocabulary of the colurs. Ask
students to be actively engaged by mentioning things they can see in everyday life
which have certain colours. Ask some students to come forward voluntarily and touch
things that they can see in the classroom which have the colours being asked. After
that, use several flashcards which have been prepared beforehand to be used as a
game ffor the students. As you raise a specific flashcard, ask the students to try and
guess the name of the colours being asked. Repeat this activity over and over again
until all students manage to answer correctly. Then, give instructions for students to
work in pairs and complete a task in their textbooks which asks them to colour the
specific days in Thailand. Direct students to participate in the “Which colour of days
do you belong to?” activity afterwards, as in Thailand, colours are very much
associated with days in a week. After that, distribute the worksheets which require
students to colour correctly as the instruction stated. At last, review the lesson by
playing flashcards rally with the students and give rewards for the most active
students in the classroom.

In the second meeting, begin the lesson by making the classroom conducive first.
Display the use of a nursery rhyme video about numbers and colours. Just like the
previous meeting, encourage the students to sing along to the song and emphasize on
the vocabulary which becomes the main focus of the lesson. Continue the lesson by
reviewing students’ comprehension of last meeting by engaging them with playing
flashcards rally. Then, play a game in which students must put the correct colour of
the flashcard with the magnetic colours available. After that, ensure all students to
participate and that they are highly motivated to learn by asking students to count
from 1-10, then do variations such as saying “Boom!” when the students mention
numbers which are the multiplication of 2. After that, distribute the worksheets
prepared which are more challenging. Let students to work together as a group of
four, but explain to them that each student is still responsible in completing his/her
own worksheet. Continue the explanation slowly but clearly that the worksheets
require students to not only think about the name of colours in English, but also to
match it with the result of equations written on the worksheets. Ask students to write
their answers and explain it in front of their classmates. Conclude the lesson by asking
each of the group’s representative to come forward and answer the questions on the
whiteboard, then give rewards to those who are brave and get the answers right. At
last, review the numbers from 1-10 with the students.

In the third meeting, begin the lesson by playing flashcards rally about shapes.
Ask students to find certain shapes around their classrooms, or things that they usually
see in everyday life. Carry the lesson on by displaying a nursery rhyme video about
shapes, and ask students to sing along as well as answering each of the question asked
in the video regarding the colours they see. Instruct all students to pair up and take
turns in drawing something which consists of a specific shape on the whiteboard.
Meanwhile, ask the other students who are watching the person drawing to guess what
he/she is trying to draw. Tell students that when someone gets the answer correctly,
he/she gets to draw in the next turn. Repeat this until all pairs get their turn to draw
something on the board. Continue the lesson by distributing worksheets which require
students to colour the correct shape using the correct colour. At last, review the lesson
using flashcards and ask students to mention the shapes they have learned and the
examples.

On the fourth meeting, introduce the lesson by showing the flashcards which have
been made. The flashcards are about seasons, and each season has two activities and
two objects which are associated with the seasons of the year. Make students guess
which activities and things belong to which seasons, then display a video about
seasons around the world. After that, discuss with students whether the activities and
things students have guessed previously are associated with the correct seasons or not.
If they are still incorrect, guide the students to correctly match the activities and
things with the correct season. Then, instruct students write the names of the seasons
in their notebooks. Divide the classroom into two groups, then ask for volunteers to
do charades in front of the classroom. The group which can guess correctly first, gets
a point, and if one of the groups managed to get five points, they win. After that,
distribute worksheets in which the students must write which season the picture is
representing. To conclude the lesson, review students' comprehension using
flashcards and ask students about the seasons of the year, the objects and activities
that they have learnt. Throughout all the meetings, make sure to motivate all students
and maintain their attention to have a conducive classroom atmosphere
