Vacancy for Year 1 Teacher September 2019


The British School in Baku Primary School is looking for a
fully qualified teacher for our Year 1 class.

Requirements
This teacher needs to show the following traits:

 Enthusiasm for subject and the ability to communicate that enthusiasm to pupils from a
range of different backgrounds.
 Strong subject knowledge in Literacy, Numeracy, Science and the Foundation subjects for
a Year 1 class.
 Good teamwork skills.
 Familiarity with the Cambridge and English National Curricula.
 Experience of school self-evaluation and a willingness to make a significant contribution to
the process.
 Willingness to organise and participate in field trips and school visits and clubs.

Teaching and Learning


 Ensure each child’s learning takes place in an appropriate manner and pace.
 Differentiate all class work and learning styles to meet the differing ability needs of
the children being taught.
 Acknowledge that English is not necessarily the native language of all the children
in the class and adapt their vocabulary accordingly.
 Ensure that all work is marked meaningfully, promptly and clearly and that
corrections are undertaken where necessary.
 Make sure that feedback is relevant and constructive.
 Ensure that all work is of an acceptable standard according to the level of each
child.
 Ensure homework is given appropriately, in line with the Homework Policy.
 Bring to the attention of the Principal or Deputy Principal any child who has special
needs of any kind and work with the Support teacher in this regard.
 Use appropriate resources when teaching all subjects.
 Be prepared to be visited and observed by either the Principal or Deputy Principal
throughout the year as part of the BSB Performance Management Programme.

Planning
 Work with the year group team to develop long term and medium term plans.
 Prepare weekly plans and ensure these are placed on the online SharePoint
(Friday by 4.00 pm).
 Collaborate with other teachers in planning all lessons to ensure that classes are
covering the appropriate work across the curriculum.
 Ensure that the curriculum is delivered using a variety of activities and teaching
styles.
 Participate in the development and review of school policies where necessary.

Assessment
 Formally report on each child’s academic achievement and progress at the end of
each term.
 Continuously assess each pupil to be able to clearly justify and substantiate
grades, levels or comments given in each report.
 Use formative and summative assessment to record the learning of the pupils.
 Keep clear records of any levels, grades or marks attained by each child in
classroom tests/assessments in all subjects.
 Ensure that the homework is recorded in Homework Books and recorded onto the
MIS system.
 Be prepared to discuss report grades and each child’s progress with parents both
on Parents’ Evenings and at other reasonable times throughout the year.
 Keep records of the pupils work in the Pupil Progress files.

Classroom Management
 Ensure that the classroom atmosphere is calm and conducive to learning.
 Provide an environment in which the children feel safe, confident and happy to
learn.
 Put up displays of the children’s work in an attractive manner and ensure that the
classroom represents a colourful and stimulating environment.
 Ensure that children are supervised at the beginning of school, during and after
break times.
 Ensure that children are not left unsupervised in classrooms during lesson time or
at break times.
 Not accept poor behaviour either in or out of the classroom.
 Follow the Behaviour, Rewards and Sanctions Policy.
 Keep a daily class register.
 Reply to parents’ informal notes and messages on the day they are received.

General
 Supervise children in the play areas and dinner hall at break times according to
the duty rota.
 Serve as a role model to the children in terms of behaviour, dress, attitude and
manners.
 Run at least one after school club.
 Be available to attend and participate in staff and planning meetings after school.
 Be available to attend and participate in extracurricular events in the school
calendar such as International Day, Parents Teacher Partnership Evenings,
concerts, presentations as well as outside marketing events etc.
 Consult with the KS1 Coordinator, Principal or Deputy Principal should problems
arise in any area related to the teaching duties.
 Actively support the ethos of the school.
 Observe, support and exemplify all school policies, particularly the Child Protection
and Safeguarding Policies.
 Complete the compulsory Child Protection, First Aid, Fire Safety, Prevent Duty and
various other courses.
 Observe the school hours and be present from at least 8.00 a.m. each morning.
