I. OBJECTIVES
The learners demonstrate an understanding of:
A. Content Standards
Newton’s three laws of motion and uniform circular motion
B. Performance The learners shall be able to:
Standards develop a written plan and implement a “Newton’s Olympics”
1. Demonstrate how a body responds to changes in motion. S8FE-1b-17
C. Learning 2. Relate the laws of motion to bodies in uniform circular motion. S8FE-1b-18
Competencies 3. Infer that circular motion requires the application of constant force directed

ACTIVITY 1
COIN IN, FREE FALL
Materials:
1-peso coin
A sheet of paper
Glass
Procedure:
1. Place a one-peso coin on a sheet of paper on top of a glass jar.
2. Pull the sheet of paper quickly. What happen to the coin? Why does the coin drop in the glass when a form
of force accelerates the card?
Questions:
1. What happened to the coin? The coin…
a. Was thrown away
b. Dropped into the glass
2. Why did the coin drop when the force accelerates the sheet of paper?
a. It was pushed by a sheet of paper
b. It tended to stay in its original position
3. Was it the natural condition on the coin to be a rest?
a. Yes
b. No
4. What kind of inertia was shown by this activity?
a. Inertia in Motion
b. Inertia at Rest

Activity 2
Hit from Behind
Materials:
2 dynamic carts
Modeling clay shaped into person’s body
Procedure:
1. Label the two carts as Cart A and Cart B
2. Place the molded clay on the top, front part of each cart.
3. Position the two carts one meter away as shown in the given figure
Guide Questions:
1. Did the figure in Cart B move backward?
a. Yes
b. No
2. Did the figure in Cart A move forward?
a. Yes
b. No
3. What kind of inertia was shown by the figure in Cart A?
a. Inertia of Rest
b. Inertia of Motion
4. From the given situation in Activity 2. How is inertia defined?
a. The measure of pull of gravity of earth on an object
b. The resistance an object to change its state of motion
c. The ration between the net force and mass

Activity 3
Sliding or Rolling Can
Materials:
Empty can
Meter stick
Procedure:
1. Place an empty can in an upright position, Mark the center of the spot where you let the can stand. Slightly
push it. Mark the Middle of the spot where the can stops. Record the data in the given table. Repeat the
procedure twice.
Activity 4
The Rolling Coin Can
Materials:
Empty can
8 coins
Meter stick
Procedure:
1. Tape one-peso coins around the inner part of the can (around 6 to 8 coins). See to it that the coins are
equally spaced. Place the can in an upright position, Mark the center of the spot where you let the can stand.
Slightly push it. Mark the Middle of the spot where the can stops. Record the data in the given table. Repeat
the procedure twice.
2. Now place the same can on its side on the floor, letting it lie on the same site where you put it earlier. Let it
roll by giving it a push. Record the data in the table. Do it twice.
