A Message from the
Headteachers
The school found a wonderful new home at Kokokahi YWCA. During the summer of 2018,
numerous volunteers helped to refurbish the classroom cabins for the new school year. The
school moved from Kailua to Kaneohe to increase the school’s long-term sustainability and
to increase the number of students from the Kaneohe community in order to fill the school to
capacity in the years to come.

The move to Kokokahi allowed the school to add eighth grade to the middle school, offering
a complete K-8 educational experience.

The move to the new campus also brought a change to the school’s leadership and
management structure. Instead of being led by one director, the school reorganized to a
shared leadership model where each multiage division is led by a headteacher. This new
leadership structure was successful in 2018-2019 and plans are to continue to follow this new
structure.

It was a major milestone year when Bella Darby, the first student to attend K-8 graduated.
Bella represented the result of a K- 8 Huakailani School for Girls education. She graduated an
academically advanced student with a strong moral compass. She had all of the “girl
power” tools she needed from her 10 year K-8 Huakailani education and experience to
move on to high school at Le Jardin Academy with confidence.

We settled into our new campus with beautiful learning spaces and outdoor greenspace
right outside the classrooms doors. The “noble journey” continues!

With girl power,
