AUTOCAD MODIFY TOOLS AND COMMANDS I

PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVE:
Upon successful completion of this practical, the students will be able to:
 Use TRIM command
 Use BREAK command
 Use Rotate command
 Use MOVE Command
 Use COPY Command
 Use of MIRROR command
TRIM
The TRIM command allows you to shorten an entity to an intersection or remove a section of an
entity between two intersections.
To trim objects, select the boundaries and press Enter. Then select the objects that you want to
trim. To use all objects as boundaries, press Enter at the first Select Objects prompt.

Activity 1
To Trim in AutoCAD we will do following steps
1. Click on the TRIM icon
2. Select objects that intersect each other and hit ENTER
3. Select the part (or parts) to be removed

BREAK
BREAK command is used to remove portions of objects including lines, arcs, circles and
polylines. Unlike trim command, BREAK doesn’t rely on other objects as cutting edges. It is a
typical ERASE command that erases just a portion of an object between the points which you
specify on an object.

Activity 2
1. Draw the line using line command you learnt in previous lab
 2. At the command prompt write break then enter, AutoCAD prompts to select object:
3. Select line. Unless you specified otherwise BREAK used your first pick point on the
object as the start of the break.
4. AutoCAD prompts to specify second point.
5. When you pick second point after this prompt appears, the portion of object between two
points break. Entering the first point causes AutoCAD to prompt you for a new point as
the start of the break rather than the point you originally selected.
6. To split an object in two without erasing a portion, enter the same point for both the first
and second points. You can do this by entering @ to specify the second point.

ROTATE
Rotate is used to rotate an object in your drawing around a specified base point.

Activity 3
1. Select the object to rotate.
2. Specify the base point for the rotation.
3. Do one of the following:
a) Enter the angle of rotation.
b) Drag the object around its base point and specify a point location to which you
want to rotate the object.

MOVE
Move command is used to move an object at a specified distance and direction from original
location.
Use coordinates, grid snaps, object snaps, and other tools to move objects with precision.

ARRAY

An array is defined as the method of creating multiple copies of the selected object and arranging
them in a rectangular or circular fashion. In some drawings, you may need to create an object
multiple times in a rectangular or circular arrangement.

For example, suppose you have to draw six chairs around a table. This job can be accomplished
by drawing each chair separately or by using the COPY command to make multiple copies of the
chair. But it is a very tedious process and also the alignment of the chairs will have to be
adjusted. This can be easily done using the ARRAY command. All you have to do is to create
just one chair and the remaining five will be created and automatically arranged around the table
by the ARRAY command.

Rectangular Arrays:

A rectangular array is formed by making copies of the selected object along the X and Y
directions of an imaginary rectangle (along rows and columns). The rectangular array can be
created by selecting the Rectangular Array radio button in the Array dialog box.

Polar Array:

A polar array is an arrangement of the objects around a point in a circular fashion. This kind of
array is created by selecting the Polar Array radio button in the Array dialog box,

Activity 4

Construct the polar array as shown in figure

MIRROR

This command use to create mirror to selected object. You can create objects that represent half
of a drawing, select them, and mirror them across a specified line to create the other half.

COPY

The copy command copy single

object or group of objects.

TASK:
1. Draw the left half of the figure then mirror the objects to create the right half

2. Use array and trim commands to create the following object

3. Draw the tooth gear using different commands in autocad

4. Discuss the difference between rectangular and polar array.
