ABSTRACT

This should be a brief narration in about 250 words stating the problem, methodology

for solution and a summary of conclusions. This should be typed in double line

spacing using Font Style Times New Roman and Font Size 12.

Guidelines for the Preparation of B.Arch Dissertation

1. GENERAL

The dissertation report prepared and submitted by the B.Arch student is an organized

documentation of a research / project work carried out by him over a period of two

semesters’ time. It is the basis on which the examiners will express their opinion

whether the project work, presented in the dissertation, has resulted as a useful

outcome either to the industry / academic research or to the society at large.

2. SIZE OF THE PROJECT REPORT

The size of the project report should be between a maximum of 60 pages and a

minimum of 30 pages of typed matter.

3. SEQUENCE OF ARRANGEMENT OF THE REPORT

The project report material should be arranged in the following sequence:

1. Cover Page and Title Page (as shown)

2. Certificate (as shown)


3. Acknowledgement

4. Abstract

5. Table of Contents (as shown)

6. List of Tables

7. List of Figures

8. List of Symbols and Abbreviations as used.

9. Chapters

10. Appendices

11. References

12. List of Publications

The actual Tables and Figures should be included at appropriate places in the

body of the Dissertation.

4. PAGE DIMENSIONS AND MARGIN

The pages will be in standard A4 size (279 mm x 210 mm). Good quality white paper

of not less than 80 gsm thickness should be used. The pages should have the following

margins:

Top edge : 35 mm

Bottom edge : 30 mm

Left Side : 40 mm

Right Side : 25 mm

Tables and Figures also should conform to the margin specifications.

All contents except the title page, Bonafide Certificate and Acknowledgement will

find a place in the Table of Contents. Items preceding the Table of Contents will have

page numbers in lower case Roman letters. Items following the Table of contents will

have Arabic style page numbers. One and a half line spacing should be adopted for

typing the Table of Contents. A specimen copy of the Table of Contents is shown.
List of Tables: The captions in the List and in the text above the Table should be

identical. One and a half line spacing should be adopted for the List of Tables.

List of Figures: The captions in this List and in the text below the figures should be

identical. One and a half line spacing should be adopted for the List of Figures.

List of Symbols and Abbreviations: Standard symbols and abbreviations as adopted

should be used. The list should be arranged alphabetically.

Chapters: The chapters may be broadly arranged as follows:

(1) Introduction, scope, objectives and methodology of the project

(2) Literature Survey and Case Study

(3) Live Case Study and Analysis

(4) Inference and Conclusions

(5) Bibliography/ References

Each chapter may be further divided into several divisions and sub-divisions. Each

chapter should be given a suitable title. Tables and Figures should be placed

immediately after they are referred to in the text.

Appendices: Appendices may be provided to give supplementary information. They

should be numbered using Arabic numerals. Tables and Figures appearing in an

Appendix should be treated in the same manner as in the chapters. Each appendix

should have a title which will be included in the Table of Contents.

References: Any work of other researchers which has been cited in the body of the

Dissertation should be listed under References. Nothing which has not been so cited

should be included under References. Citation should be done in APA format.

List of Publications: Only those publications arising out of the research program

reported in the Dissertation should be included in the List of Publications. They should

be
1. Those presented and published in Conferences with a referee system.

2. Those published in Journals with a referee system. The format for the list of

Publications will be same as in references.

5. TYPING INSTRUCTIONS

General: One and a half line spacing should be used for typing the general text. Font

style Times New Roman and Font Size 12 should be adopted.

6. NUMBERING INSTRUCTIONS

Page Numbering: All page numbers should be typed on the upper right hand corner 20

mm from the top with the last digit aligned with the right side margin. The title page

will be numbered as (i) but this should not be typed. The page immediately following

will be numbered as (ii) and should follow the above specification. Pages of the main

text starting with Chapter 1 will be consecutively numbered using Arabic numerals.

Numbering of Chapters, Divisions and Sub-divisions: These should be done using

Arabic numerals. Decimal notation should be used for numbering the divisions and

subdivisions.

Numbering of Tables and Figures: Tables and Figures should bear appropriate

numbers. For example the fourth figure in Chapter 3 will be assigned the number Fig.

3.4. Identical rules apply for Tables, say Table 2.5.

This chapter deals with “write a short brief on what the chapter covers”.
