CHAPTER IV

RESULTS

This chapter deals with presentations of the result. The researchers gathered

the responses and data through the conducted interview of “The Lived Experiences of

Netizens Who Shares Information on Social Media: A Phenomenological Study.” The

responses were transcribed and formed into themes. Here are the following:

Theme No. 1. Boost Self Confidence. In every part of our lives, interacting with

new people can lead us into positivity and boosting our confidence. Students nowadays

tend to use social media for some reason these are to interact, to meet new friends and

to relieve from stress by offering a more amenity. Participant D claimed that “Pero I like

kung naay mo-appreciate ana.” (I like it when someone appreciates my posts.) It is

assured that a person can be grateful if someone appreciated his/ her shared posts. It

can boost confidence to a person. Participant E stated that “Naa man poy ga-read sa

imong mga posts.” (There are some people who like to read your posts even though

you don’t know them well.) It is surprising that even strangers reacted on your posts

with positivity and builds a starting of friendship. Participant F also stated that

“Makaboost na naay lain tao na naga-share sa akong posts.”(It is over-whelming to

know that some netizens share my own thoughts on social media.) It has a different

feeling to know that people view, share your posts and like it even more though.

Theme No. 2. Excited for Positive Feedbacks. If you are one of the individual

who uses social media, then you should be ready and prepared to receive positive and

negative remarks. Be ready to force a lot of challenges that you will be encountering

with. Social media allows us to voice out our own opinions to impress for a very large

size of audience. According to Participant A, “Positive man hinuun kanang nice lang

siya” (Their comments are evenly positive and some says “you’re beautiful”.) It makes

us to have a great swing of mood to hear someone say that “you are nice and beautiful”

and other flattery words. Participant I claimed that “Positive labi nag friends nimo.” (It is

all positive comments especially when they are your friends.) Positivity causes

happiness to social media platforms and it is grateful that comments are from your

friends. Participant J also claimed that “Mga positive comments.”(All are positive

comments.) Positivity on social media is a key component to a great experience for

everyday sharing some posts.

Theme No. 3. They Don’t Care. Most of the people especially students had

encountered some negativities on every information that had posted on social media.

Each one of us did really encountered this kind of situation but millennial nowadays are

tough for not minding it. They don’t live in this world to please other people for their

physical and social ability. Participant C claimed that “Dili lang nako siya e-mind and I

don’t really care.” (I just don’t mind it because I don’t really care.) For don’t let people

pull you into their storms, pull them into your peace. Participant H stated that “I don’t

really care sa ilaha.” (I don’t care.) Whatever you do, good or bad, people will always

have something negative to say, so the best way to be not affected on that, is not caring

it at all. Participant I also stated that “Dili lang nako isipon kay ako ray ma-bothered.” (I

don’t have the time to mind them because if I do, I will be the one to experience

stressful life.) If you attach to the negative behavior of others, it brings you down to their

level so rather ignore it.

Theme No. 4. Expressing Emotions. There are lots of things people can do

when they want to express their emotions such as writing things out on a sheet of paper

or by just listening to the music. Student nowadays use social media to express their

emotions in a certain procedures. Participant D stated that “I tend to share posts

because of that I can express my emotions.” (I tend to share posts because of that I can

naturally express my emotions.) Many people now do so online and get a similar

hormonal rush of instant gratification. Participant E claimed that “Ganahan ko mag

express sa akong emotions.” (I just have the feeling to express my emotions.) Putting

your feelings into words can reduce intensity. Expressing emotions on social media is

not bad because you just wanted to share it with other people. It is important to stay

positive even though problems hit you left and right.

Theme No.5. Entertained by the Memes. Mostly students nowadays


encountered stressful activities in school, homes, family and friends. That’s why majority
of the students spend their time scrolling on their phones and let their self be
entertained by memes and watch videos to relieve from stress. Participant B stated that
“Some entertaining stuffs like memes and videos.” (Some entertaining stuffs like memes
and videos.) Memes have the ability to identify a common feeling, experience or opinion
and make people laugh and relieve. Participant C also stated that “Kanang makadala
sakog entertainment na mga posts tas memes.” (Those things that can bring out
entertainment to me such as memes and funny posts.) Simply sharing such a meme to
social platforms gives people who would otherwise struggled to express their views , a
voice and a stance.

Theme No. 6. Accepting Other Opinions. Every people had different


perspectives in life, that’s why they tend to encounter some negativity so do as
positivity. Respect is important to be remembered when encountering some against
opinions towards your posts. Also people should be always open-minded especially
they tend to share posts publicly. Participant B stated that “One thing that we should talk

about is that it’s their opinion.” (It is their opinion so we have to accept it for we have
different perspectives in life.) Whether it is politics, religion, or social issues, ready to
encounter different opinions from different people. According to Participant D, “Also the
respect because everyone has their own opinions.” (Respect because everyone has
their own opinion and thoughts.) Don’t become angry because someone does not see
things the same way you do, just respect them then it’s done.

Theme No. 7. Sharing Personal Information. Nowadays millennial tend to


share personal information on social media without knowing the consequences of it. But
the thing is some people want other people to know how their life is, what kind of person
they really are and some confidential problems about them. According to Participant C,
“Conflict about sa family para makahibalo ang uban na.” (Conflict about my family so
that other people can know information on his /her personal life.) Cumulative nature of
connections on social media works to amplify privacy issues. Participant E claimed that
“My certain happenings in my life.” (Certain happenings in my life.) Happening in
someone’s life could be share as long as it is possible to but don’t ever share some
confidential information. Sharing about your life is not bad but as long as you want other
people to know you better off and know the real you.

Theme No.8. Get Relatable Information. One of the reasons why people love
to share or post information because they can relate to it. Others tend to share like
quotes, memes, and inspirational messages for they liked it, learn and inspired from it.
Participant B stated that “Pareha sa ato na makarelate on how are the easier things in
life.” (It goes with how the easier things in life that I could relate to.) Relatable
information is a big help for people so that they can know what would be the easier
ways to live life. Participant E also stated that “Para sa ato students na makarelate ta.”
(For us students that we can relate to especially for our studies.) Students tend to relate
some post about their studies and inspirational subjects.

Theme No. 9. Fast Communication. New technology can make everyone’s life a
little get better sound of quality. In this generation, they prefer to have fast
communication so that they can have great relationship towards their friends and
families, and in order to maintain the quality in every aspect of their lives. According to
Participant A, “Kanang dali ra ang communication.” (The communication is easier and
faster.) Having a fast communication can bring out ties with people whom you want to
contact with. Participant B stated that “I can communicate to other people easily.” (I can
communicate to other people easily.) Communicating with people around you get is
important so that they can keep in touch with their love ones.

Theme No. 10. Cyberbullying. Bullying is a major factor that can trigger a
person’s life on having a depression and can lead to suicides. It has a big impact on
victims especially on their physical, mental, and social life. Cyberbullying is a bullying
that takes place over digital devices like cellphones, tablets and also on social platforms
and websites on the internet. Participant H stated that “Kanang gina body shame ka
through pictures nimo.” (I get too experienced of body shaming through my pictures.)
Cyberbullying is aggressive behavior that is repetitive, intentional, and occurs between
two individuals with unequal amounts of power such as physical size, age and social
status. Participant I claimed that “I was cyberbullied man sab.” (I experienced
cyberbullying too.) Cyberbullying potentially can be more upsetting for the victim
because the bullying behavior might include a wider audience and be more permanent
and it hurts when it was done by a friend of yours.

Theme No.11. Information in a Single Click. Technology makes life get easier
and better. The presence of computer technology in schools has increase dramatically
since that time, and predictions are that this trend will continue to accelerate. The
romanticized view of technology through social platforms enhances student learning
and achievement in school. Participant B stated that “I can actually research faster and
broader about some helpful tips for students to strive harder in school.” (I can actually
research faster and broader about some helpful tips for students to strive harder in
school.) Social media has a great potential to enhance student achievement and
teacher learning, but only if it is used appropriately. Participant H also stated that “Kuan

maka kuhag information sa mga reliable pages.” (I tend to get information through
reliable pages on social media.) It is easier to create environments in which students
can learn by doing, receive feedbacks, and continually refine their understanding and
build a new knowledge.

Theme No.12. Updated of Current Events. Student should be aware of global


issues. Elevating student awareness of global and especially country issues is
increasingly important as the countries of the world become more independent.
Students also need an understanding of the environment in order to make the best
decisions about how to live life. Students can learn to build language, vocabulary,
critical thinking and oral expression through reading some initiative post from someone.
Participant B claimed that “Information about what is happening right now in this world.”
(Information about what is happening right now in this world.) Students also need an
understanding of the world’s economy, politics, social structures, and environmental
issues. According to Participant C, “Kanang information about kanang PAG-ASA
Weather Forecast.” (Information about weather forecasting.) More than ever, an
appreciation for news and our civic institutions is a key step toward self-empowerment
and advancement.

Theme No. 13. Take Precautions. It is important to know each limit when
sharing information on social media. Taking precautions on posting and sharing
information is a substantial tool for avoidance of offending other people. Pople have to
be very sensitive since they majority share information on public sites. Participant B
stated that “Naay murag ma hurtful, ma-insult kaayo sa post, so I would delete it.”
(When I can feel that someone might get hurt from my posts, then I would not hesitate
to delete it.) Avoiding from offending other people is a great thinking when sharing
information on social media. Participant D claimed that “Dapat naa kay limitations pod
kung asa raka dapat taman.” (You should know your limitations on sharing posts
because we don’t know that it might hurt someone out there.) Control hurting people so
that there would be no conflict that may happen between individuals who love to share
information and posts on social media of offending someone on social media. Taking
precautions is as much as taking care yourself.

Theme No. 14. Interfering Other People’s Social Life. People don’t mind their
own business because they believe that interfering in your life and making uninvited
injuries into the private affairs of others, is their business. Participant A stated that
“Kanang ang ako lang, ayaw pagbuut, imoha ng timeline? (For me, actually don’t ever
mind my shared post because it’s mine not yours.) People don’t mind their own
business because they honestly think they know better of you. According to Participant
I, “They shouldn’t care about that because it’s my opinion and insights.” (They shouldn’t
care about that thing because it’s my opinion and insights.) People who don’t mind their
business are sad, lonely, and unhappy people. They might not know this and they might
not want to admit it, but they truly are. They can’t accept the fact that it’s your own
opinion and insights so they have nothing to do with it.
