Activity #3

Chapter 1: The Problem

“Exploring the Benefits of having a Dog.”

Introduction:

Since the beginning of time, dogs have been human’s bestfriends. Energetic, playful and silly, dogs are

loyal companions who completely change the daily routines of the people who open up their lives and

homes to them. Dogs are helpful of every Aspects. But, dogs can be a lot to handle, with messes, baths and

all that walking. According to American Humane a Non-profit organization, Dogs can make you healthier

because dogs are high-energy companions, love to play and need exercises. People who own dogs get more

activity in their day by simply making accommodations for their dog’s lifestyle. Dogs can make you

happier; Dog owners are less likely to be depressed, and in fact, have higher levels of serotonin and

dopamine than non-dog owners, mainly due to the fact that dogs are calming and familiar companions that

can lead to less stress and anxiety. Additionally, dogs are natural conversation starters which promotes

social interaction even for shy dog owners. The more social interaction you have, the more likely you are

to engage in fulfilling relationships with people that make you happy.

All this helps boost mental responses and motivation if struggling to get out of bed or to lose those last few

pounds, leading to an overall sense of productivity and satisfaction. Plus, having a strong sense of purpose

and a routine (which is often required for taking care of a dog) allows for stability which in turn helps fight
mental illness. Dogs can keep you safe; Studies have shown that barking dogs help deter burglaries and

other violent attacks. With heightened senses of hearing and smell, dogs can detect things you can’t and

alert you to possible danger. A dogs’ natural instinct is often to protect their home and family – something

that can be annoying when the mailman comes to the door but useful if someone more nefarious comes

around.

Whether you’re taking your dog out for a walk or getting all snuggled up in bed, just having Fido around

can help put your mind at ease, something that helps both your mental and physical health.

This Article explains that Dogs make life healthier because owners try to accommodate to their dogs

lifestyle and dogs are always on high-energy companion, so if their pet wants to go and have some exercise,

they will follow because they do loved their Dogs. Dogs can make your life happier because dogs are cute

and funny wherein their owners problem can be take away and when their dogs making them busy doing

silly things, they will forget about sadness they have. Dogs can keep you safe because they bark will help

and stand as an alarm for you and help deter burglaries and other violent attacks, also dogs senses can detect

the things you can’t.

In Addition, According to the American Heart Association, dog owners are 54% more likely to get the

recommended amount of exercise than their non-dog owning counterparts. As a result, and due to a stronger

immune system from being exposed to pet fur and dandruff, many dog owners see a decrease in blood-

pressure, triglycerides and cholesterol levels, making them less at risk for heart-disease.

However, According to Pet helpful, (2019) there are Disadvantages of having a Pet Dog, those are the

examples of Time Commitment, a dog does not happy if he doesn’t have daily exercise and can only do

his business in the backyard or at the street corner. It is hard to have a dog, especially a big one, inside the

city. Dogs needs to run and enjoy their freedom and use their noses in a natural surrounding. The second

one is Cost, you need to buy dog food, go to the vet atleast once a year (Provided your dog is healthy).

Third one is you must be aware that whenever you go on a trip, even if it is only for a couple days, you will
need someone to watch your dog. Whether a close relative, a friend, or a dog kennel, it needs to be with

someone who has atleast some knowledge about dogs and how to take care of them. The last one is the

training commitment. Some people don’t like it if dogs jump on them, especially when their paws are wet

or dirty, and it is always useful when a dog is trained to sit. Dogs should get to know the limits like what is

their food and what is ours, which areas (like the couch or bed) are off-limits and most important of all,

their business has to be done outside ( the latter requires a lot of time and patience and needs to be taught

from the very beginning to avoid and raising a problem dog).

The Aimed of this study is to explore the benefits of owning/having a Pet Dog. The study is helpful for

those who have a dog in their lives, and also for those who planning to have a dog. Because in this study

they will know more about the benefits of having a dog and also some other disadvantages.

This type of Research is a Qualitative Research. A Qualitative Research is primarily exploratory research.

It is used to gain an understanding of underlying reasons, opinions, and motivations. It provides insights

into the problem or helps to develop ideas or hypotheses for potential quantitative research. Qualitative

Research is also used to Uncover trends in thought and Opinions, and dive deeper into the problem.

Qualitative data collection methods very using unstructured or semi-structured techniques. Some common

methods include from focus groups (group discussions). Individual interviews and participation/

observations. The sample size is typically small and respondents are selected to fulfill a given quota. The

type of Study this Qualitative Research is a Case study. This Research is entitled “ Exploring the benefits

of having a Pet Dog.”

Background of the Study:

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), Dog bites usually occur on the

hands, face, or legs. About a million people a year seek medical care for dog bites in the United States, and

millions more bites are unreported. Sixty percent of those bitten are children, so dog bites are a major health

problem of children. Dog bites rarely become infected, and rabies in dogs is rare. On average, 12 people,
mostly young children, die each year from dog bites. On the other hand, According to the Design1st, there

is a latest development for Dogs it is a iFetch a Automatic Ball Launcher; Keeping your dog active is critical

for their health and your peace of mind. But playing fetch for hours on end can be taxing on your time and

arm muscles! iFetch solved this problem with an automatic ball launcher that has won multiple pet tech
