What is Cyberbullying?

Cyberbullying is a bullying that occurs in digital devices such as mobile phones, computers, and
tablets. Cyberbullying can occur through:
1. SMS or text messages sent through the device, and application
2. online on social media like Facebook, Instagram, Snap chat, and Twitter
3. Certain group, or games where people can see, participate, or share content.
Cyberbullying includes sending, posting, or sharing negative, dangerous, fake or meaningful
content about other people. It may include sharing personal information or someone else who can
embarrass regarded as an insult. Some cyberbullying crosses the line into unlawful or criminal
behavior.
In my opinion, cyberbullying can be considered as one of the phenomena that deserves special
attention because the negative effects felt the same as bullying can be even more severe. The
impact of cyberbullying can be considered more serious because victims find it difficult to avoid
the perpetrators, they can feel cyberbullying anytime and anywhere and sometimes the perpetrators
use anonymity when doing cyberbullying so it is difficult to track and stop.
The forms and types of cyber bullying are also very diverse, ranging from uploading photos or
making posts that embarrass victims, making fun of victims to accessing other people's social
networking accounts to threaten victims and create problems such as threats via e-mail and creating
websites to spread slander, even to remove someone from a group of social media across multiple
groups.
Motivation of the offender is also very diverse, sometimes just for the fun or just kidding (joking),
seeking attention. There is also because the offender is angry, frustrated, and wants revenge, and
there is also because of his peer environment, and many more. The thing that distinguishes bullying
in general and cyberbullying are:
First, it can produce effects very quickly. Those who are physically involved in physical
intimidation or often bullied at school or elsewhere, or those who are not popular enough to be
involved in verbal bullying can now do it online without fear of revenge.
Secondly, cyber bullying makes its victims not easily leave or run away from the perpetrators, in
contrast to bullying in general. Although SMS messages can be deleted, teenagers tend to carry
wherever the communication means. This makes it difficult for them to run away from perpetrators
of cyberbullying. The perpetrators of cyberbullying are more secretive than bullying in general.
Perpetrators are not aware of the direct impact of their behavior on the victim. As a result, cyber
bullying has a lower empathy than those who bullying directly.
Third, the practice of cyber bullying is anonymity, so that the perpetrators are able to harass or
disturb the victim for 24 hours. Anonymity contained in each electronic communication model not
only disguises identity but can reduce social accountability, making it easier for users to engage in
hostility to aggressive actions.
Cyberbullying is easier to do than bullying in general because the perpetrator can do the bullying
without the need to meet face-to-face with other people who are the target. They can berate and
easily intimidate their victims because they are behind a computer screen or staring at a cellphone
screen without having to see the effects on the victim. Be aware that this cyberbullying case is
very difficult to identify because the perpetrators are anonymous and rarely known. Teenagers
who act as perpetrators have aggressive and intimidating characteristics. On the contrary, the
research that has been done. Concludes that adolescents who act as victims have passive and
defensive characteristics. These characteristics of the perpetrators and victims reflect that
cyberbullying often occurs even though both parties are not aware of it. Victims of cyber bullying
can be affected by mental stress that causes the victim to experience depression and despair to
want to end his life. One example of victims of cyber bullying is Sulli. She is a Korean actress
who died by suicide, and the cause is the evil words that people make about her, such as body
shaming until telling her to die.
Although all countries have laws that require schools to respond to bullying, many countries do
not include cyberbullying under this law or determine the role schools must play in responding to
bullying that occurs outside of school. Schools can take actions either as required by law, or with
local policies or schools that allow them to discipline or take other actions
My personal advice, if you are a victim of cyber bullying, do not ever ignore these insults. Let's
just say it is not too important thing for life. Think that the perpetrator just jealous of your
successful life. Because jealous is a sign of incapable.
