CHAPTER I

THE PROBLEM AND IT’S BACKGROUND

Introduction

A Reporting System is a general term applied to a wide range of

applications that are used for collecting, storing, analyzing and providing access

to data in order to help the decision makers in business make better more informed

business choices.

One of the things a Business Reporting System offers, among other things,

is the quick transformation of raw data into a super decision making tool commonly

referred to as an intelligent business report. The information is emerged by the

system and provides companies with everything they need to report to

management, fellow employees, consultants, suppliers and customers.

The Reporting System integrates with your other systems, for examples the

sales system, accounting system, information storage, logistics and HR Systems.

There are also types of large amounts of data that is of high importance, even

though it does not have much to do with daily operations within a business.

Examples of this type of information include market and marketing information,

competitive information, quotes and proposals, legal information, commodity

prices, etc.
Sales transaction and reporting system can use to give an overview of the

state of the sale of within a business.it can help the owner to monitor the

performance of their employee or worker to plan an effective strategies for their

business.

Background of the Study

The researchers decided to conduct this study in the particular business

they’ve chosen to improve the process of the business for the sales and customers

concerns, because the business was only manualized so the process of the

transaction is not fast and efficient. So, the researchers came up with the idea of

POS (Point of Sale) System to try and see how the system will change process of

the transaction from the usual-manual system and to make the update of the

system much faster and convenient. And the main reason the proponents chose

this business is because there isn’t any computerized system existing in it yet, so

it’s a great opportunity to make they’re own without having to improve or alter the

past system, therefore they are free to make any functions and design in the

system

The point of sale (POS) or point of purchase (POP) is the time and place

where a retail transaction is completed. At the point of sale,

the merchant calculates the amount owed by the customer, indicates that amount,

may prepare an invoice for the customer (which may be a cash register printout),

and indicates the options for the customer to make payment.

Since the 1960s to date, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs)

have been given due recognitions especially in the developed nations for playing

very important roles towards fostering accelerated economic growth,

development and stability within several economies (Yitzhaki, 2006). They make-

up the largest proportion of businesses all over the world and play tremendous

roles in employment generation, provision of goods and services, creating a

better standard of living, as well as immensely contributing to the gross domestic

products (GDPs) of many countries (OECD, 2000).

Statement of the Problem

This study aimed to increase business transactions from usual to manual

system and to make the update of the system much faster and convenient.

Specifically, it intended to answer the following questions:

1. What if a small business doesn’t actually acquire any computerized system?

2. What difficulties were the small business will met?

3. How did the owner handle the business?

Objective

1. To accommodate the client of the computerized system to improve

the performance and effectiveness of the transaction process with

the customers to give such quality services and less hassle.

2. To enhance/ameliorate the process of the transaction regarding the

ordering and billing, since manual transaction is time burden and

hassle.

3. To implement a POS system that can also amend the security of the

data for the customer and client.

Significance of the Study

OWNER- it gives benefit to access the whole system and monitors the changes in

the computerized system. It allows the owner to efficiently modify able products

and employees by adding new ones, editing and removing existing ones. It has the

capability to access and manage the whole system.

HELPER/CASHIER- it allows them to easily add and remove purchased products

to the receipt as well as compute the total price, the value-added tax, and the

change after receiving cash from customers. It also allows them to save, preview,

and to generate reports such as sales and expenses.

Scope and Limitation

The research study is all about the factors influencing the growth of sari sari

store business. The respondents in the study are the owners of sari-sari store. The

researcher conducted a study in Sta. Cruz Laguna. In order to find out the result,
the researchers will determine the factors influencing the growth of their sari sari

store by interviewing the respondents.

Definition of Terms

The important key terms in this study were defined carefully and

conceptually to avoid any interference and ensure clear understanding.

Point of Sale. a critical piece of a point of purchase, refers to the place where a

customer executes the payment for goods or services and where sales taxes may

become payable.

Reporting System. are defined as processes, procedures, and facilities that are

used to generate and gather reports using one or more information management

systems. This particular project management system is also responsible for the

distribution of report to the stakeholders of the project.

Sales Transaction. A sale is a transaction between two parties where the buyer

receives goods (tangible or intangible), services, and/or assets in exchange for

money.

REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE

This chapter presents the related literature and studies after thorough and

in- depth search done by the researchers. Theoretical and conceptual framework

to fully understand the research to be done and lastly the definition of terms for

better comprehension of the study.

Related Literature

This chapter includes the ideas, finished thesis, generalization or

conclusion, methodologies and others. Those that were included in this chapter

helps familiarizing information that are relevant and similar to the present study.

The researchers have searched the internet to collect some information

needed to compile the related local and foreign literatures regarding this study

The related system tells about the past thesis completed by other

researchers in relation to the researcher’s thesis project. The researchers

searched some topics about automated monitoring system that is familiar to what

the proposed system will be doing and was able to come up with the following

articles.
