LESSON PLAN IN CARPENTRY

I. OBJECTIVES:
At the end of the lesson, students should be able to:
 define Forms
 identify the tools, materials, and equipment used in construction of forms
 perform steps in constructing forms
 appreciate proper procedures and uses of tools and equipment in construction of forms

II. SUBJECT MATTER: Fabricate Formworks

A. Topic: Construction of Forms
B. Instructional Materials: PowerPoint Presentation
C. References: Competency-Based Learning Material Fourth Year Building Construction

III. PROCEDURES:

Teacher’s Activity Students’ Activity

A. Preparation

1. Prayer
2. Greetings
3. Checking of attendance

B. Motivation
Class, do you want to play a game? Yes, Sir.

Okay. The title of our game for this day is

“Mga Makabagong Bugtong”. Are you excited
class? Yes, Sir.

Good. Listen carefully for the instruction of

this game. First, I will give a riddle for you.
All you have to do is answer it. Second, if you
know the answer for the riddle just raise your
right hand and give the answer. Lastly,
whoever answers the riddle correctly will have
a prize later. Is it clear class? Yes, Sir.

Okay. Let’s start.

Class, as what you can observe, the first two

answers in our riddles are foods that are made
from liquid state to solid state through what
we called solidification process. Aside from
the examples from our riddle, can you give
some other objects which undergo the process
of solidification? Yes, _______? (student will state his/her answer)

Correct. As we all know, liquids have no

definite shape. However, liquids follow the
shape of a certain container. Am I right class? Yes, Sir.
That’s why class, having a container in
solidifying liquids is very important especially
when we desire to shape liquids when it will
turn into solid state. Just like also in our last
two examples. The two objects needs
container in order for them to control and
protect them from external factors that might
affect their condition. The same through when
we are constructing or forming our posts or
columns. That’s why construction workers
need forms.

C. Presentation

Class, what is form? Yes, _______? A mould, frame, or block in or on which

something is shaped. It is a temporary
structure for holding fresh concrete in shape
while it sets.
Correct. Resisting capacity of forms depends
upon the manner how it is supported by
stiffeners. Now, let us discuss the tools,
materials, and equipment to be used in
constructing forms. What are those, _____? Tools: Pencil, chalk line, cross cut saw, try
square, wooden plane

Materials: 2”x2”x8” good lumber, ply wood

(ordinary), common wire nails (1”,2”,3”)

Equipment: Circular Saw (Optional)

Good. Let us now discuss the steps in
constructing forms. Give the first step, _____? 1. Read and interpret plans and details

Correct, the give the second step, _____? 2. Prepare tools and materials needed per job
requirements.

Okay, how about the next one? Yes, _____? 3. Locate the sizes of the plywood at both ends
then using the chalk line, mark the boundaries
to be cut. Cut the mark lines.

That’s right. Give the next step, _____? 4. Measure sizes for parallel frames in 2”x2”
lumbers (height of form). Cut and fasten these
to the both sides of plywood.

Good. Give the next step, _____? 5. Measure sizes for perpendicular ribs to the
ply wood. Cut and drive nails to fasten.

Correct. Give the last step, ______? 6. Perform good housekeeping.

Good. Class, those are the steps in

constructing forms. Is there any question
regarding from our discussion class? None, Sir.
IV. APPLICATION
Return demonstration about the topic discussed (construction of forms).

V. EVALUATION
TRUE OR FALSE (1-5)
Directions: Write TRUE is the statement is correct and FALSE if otherwise. Write your answers
in a ¼ piece of paper.
1. Forms are temporary structures for holding fresh concrete in shape while it sets.
2. In absence of circular saw, the alternative tool that may be used for ripping plywood is cross
cut saw.
3. The resisting capacity of forms depends upon the manner how it is supported by stiffeners.
4. After the tools and materials needed per job requirements were prepared, the next steps is
reading and interpreting plans and details.
5. It is not really necessary to determine the size of the forms to be cut.

ENUMERATION (6-10)
Directions: Enumerate at least 5 tools, materials, and equipment used in constructing forms.
Answer Key:
1. True 6-10. Tools: Pencil, chalk line, cross cut saw, try square,
2. True wooden plane
3. True Materials: 2”x2”x8” good lumber, ply wood (ordinary), common
4. False wire nails (1”, 2”, 3”)
5. False Equipment: Circular saw (optional)

VI. AGREEMENT:
Directions: Research about installation of forms for columns in the library or in the internet.
Write or print your answers in short size bond paper.
