NARRATIVE REPORT
SCHOOL-BASED IN-SERVICE TRAINING
Orientation on Data Privacy Act and Training Workshop on the Use of Educational Resources
October 21-23, 2019

“We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teachers’ hand,
because it is the pen and paper of our time, and it is the lens through which
we experience much of the world.”

The proponent of the training understood that teachers must be equipped with the
knowledge on Data Privacy Act for protection of their personal information and that teachers who
are the facilitators in classroom must be equipped with the needed ICT skills to enhance their
capabilities in the delivery of instruction in the different learning areas. It is with this reason that
a School-Based In-Service Training entitled Orientation on Data Privacy Act and Training Workshop
on the Use of Educational Resources was conducted at Camantiles National High School on October
21-23, 2019. The participants of the training were junior high school and senior high school teachers
of CNHS.
The training-workshop aims to; orient the teachers of Camantiles NHS on how to
effectively protect their personal information in any domains, equip the teachers on the use of
Open Educational Resources in the DCP for teaching and learning, design lessons and
formative/summative assessments through OER tools, and enhance teachers’ capabilities in the
delivery of instruction in different learning areas.
The speakers of the training were from Camantiles NHS who are knowledgeable in ICT
and legal basis namely: Leslie De Los Trino, ICT coordinator and the proponent of the training;
Mam Richie M. Unlayao, English Coordinator and currently taking up Law; and Mam Luzviminda
B. Solis, ICT Teacher in SHS. The training was held in the Learning Resource Center of the school,
sponsored by Mam Lara Santos who also helped to facilitate the training together with Mam
Lourdes I. Valentino, the property custodian of the school. The speakers and facilitators were
trained on the use of OER sponsored by the Urdaneta City division. All of the participants were
advised to bring their laptops to install the OER tools and perform the hands-on activities in
Courselab and Wondershare
On its first day, October 21, the training started with the orientation on RA 10173 or the
Data Privacy Act, discussed by Mam Richie M. Unlayao. It was followed by Introduction on the
Digital Rise Program and Open Educational Resources by Mam Luzviminda B. Solis. Then Mam
Leslie Delos Trino together with Mam Solis discussed the first basic OER tool which is Courselab,
an open-source e-learning module creation tool that allows easy navigation and attachment of
multimedia features to support an offline environment
October 22 – Second day of the training workshop. It started with the Management of
Learning by some representatives from the Junior high school teachers. The teachers begun to
work on their own outputs using Courselab. Assisted by the facilitators and the speakers, they
easily followed the steps in operating the OER tool. After that, Mam Delos Trino introduced
another OER tool which is Wondershare Quiz Creator, a software for making questions or quizzes
which can be published offline or online (web-based). It is a user friendly application, making it
very easy to work on and does not require taxing programming skills. Then in the afternoon,
participants worked on their second output which is the application of Wondershare Quiz Creator.
After mastering the procedures in operating the tool, they were given two hours to finalize their
outputs on both tools, Courselab and Wondershare.
October 23 – third and the last day of the training, the participants presented their outputs
and submitted them online, through a google drive link given by the proponent. Then a closing
program immediately in the afternoon.
The training was appreciated and well understood by the participants thus realizing that
ICT is really an integral part of teaching and learning, accepting the challenges and facing the
promises and pitfalls of the digital world.
The training also promotes DepED’s Digital Rise program which aims to raise the ICT
literacy of students in the public schools. It is among the DepEd’s mission to further improve the teaching
and learning process by offline integration of ICT in the school system.
