Universal Design for Learning (UDL):

Students will have the opportunity to create their own project which goes hand in hand with the “how” of
learning. If student is unable to use a computer, a student can draw out the illustrations on a piece of paper.
Students are provided with as much discretion and autonomy as possible through creating their own
bubbl.us. In having small and large group discussion, I am inviting personal responses from the activities
produced by the students. Showing the students an example of what a finished product is going to look
similar to can help their comprehension of what this project is supposed to look like. Also, by showing
different examples, there will be some students who are comprehending while others are not. That is why it is
important to have a variety, to show them that there are different ways to do the project.

Lesson idea implementation:

While addressing the standards, students will be on their laptops (provided by the school) and teacher will be
going through the assignment. There have been previous lessons on Nutrition, so students are going to be
going more in depth with that. This lesson is going to be geared toward students analyzing their influences on
nutrition. The teacher will first show the project and do step by step on what the objective of the lesson is,
then go over how to do the project. Students will create their own graphic organizer bubbles with their
influences as the larger bubbles. Then there will be smaller bubbles and contained within them, there will be
things that determine those influences. For example, something that influences my nutrition is exercise. If I
get enough exercise, I feel better about eating something that may not be the best for me. However, if I am
not exercising, that can alter my food choice. This lesson may take anywhere from 30 to 45 minutes,
depending on how well the students are getting it.
Students are to be assessed by creating their own graphic organizer on the bubbl.us website. Each student
will have different answers in their projects, therefore, it is important to clarify to students that there are no

‘fixed’ answers. The final product is a way for students to analyze their influences within their lives that
impact their nutrition. Students could never know that something influences them, until they start to think
about it within this project. To extend student learning, students will be getting into partner groups and
sharing amongst each other their products. To conclude this lesson, students will have the opportunity to
share with a small group of students their influences and discuss what they put and why. Then students from
each small group will share at least one influence and a factor for that influence, to the class. This is going to
be an open-ended discussion for students to talk about their influences and the factors that may or may not
alter nutrition. I would provide individual feedback to each student to share some comments, due to privacy
concerns. The open discussion will lead to feedback throughout the lesson by talking through students’
examples of their influences.

Reflective Practice:
I believe that this lesson idea will get students engaged by having them create their own product based on
their personal lives. Students have the opportunity to create a graphic organizer on the computer, opposed to
completing this assignment on a piece of paper with a pen. To further extend this lesson, I could ask the
students to identify whether the factors within their influences were external or internal. There are many
technology tools that could further enhance this project, such as: Google Forms and Excel. After reading
through all of the students answers, the teacher could go back and group out the similar influences and
create a survey based on the student’s projects. Students would then answer the survey and create an excel
from those results to see what the class came up with as their influences.
